Demos

Were these written as Roxette songs, or as part of Marie’s solo career? I noticed that, in addition to them being entirely Marie’s work, they weren’t recorded with the usual Roxette crew...
’All I Ever Wanted’ (demo: 1997)
’Bad Moon’ (demo: 1997)
’Do You Wanna Go With Me?’ (demo: 1998)
’New World’ (demo: 1997)
Why does Per’s voice sound so different in the demo of Dancing On the Nightwire?
Some demos were released as b-sides, some were stolen - does anyone have any idea just how many are left sitting in a studio archive waiting to be heard?
And finally, all the demos I’ve heard seem to be songs of decent quality - one or two I actually like better than a couple of songs that did make it onto an album - why did they not make it past the demo stage?

“You anwered your own question. All the demos you’ve heard and you only like one or two better than album tracks. Pick the best and forget the rest.”
That isn’t what I said. I like some better than some of the album tracks - but I like all of them, even the ones that are obviously from a very early period and largely done with old synthesizers, as much as I do the majority of the properly published tracks - I still have yet to hear something by Per that I don’t like a lot. I really don’t understand why they were never polished and released.

Well I’m a musician myself and I think they have always done an excellent job of picking the best songs and leaving the duds to collect dust.

C’mon quite a few of those old demos sound terrible now, and they even thought so even then. Thats why they never made it past the demo stage. You don’t waste your time and money working on songs that you feel aren’t going anywhere, you move on.

I think Per was drunk or had a cold when he did the vocals for Dancing on a Nightwire :P Maybe he was trying something different there, back then he wasn’t to confident with his vocals. I like the song.
Per has always gave a rough number to the number of songs which were leftovers after albums were released. There would be heaps of demos we havent heard, and lots of unfinished songs that they felt wasnt going anywhere. I don’t expect to hear them anytime soon, or at all ever. Demos like ’From Head To Toe’ were never meant to be heard :) Only Per has the answer.
