First Girl on the moon?

Can someone please tell me what this song is about?
KixGuy said on January 20, 2004 21:57:
Once Marie said this was a song about friendship, when it fails and you go different ways... Something like that. :P

“She looked around humming a tune
The strangest song known to man”
Pretty much sums up what I think about this song...{edit} I mean, maybe that’s what its about, being a very strange song, LOL. But catchy in an annoying kind of way ;)

Very beautiful song! I believe it’s about someone who hides from friends to be alone because of disappointment or something.
Katya said on January 21, 2004 13:06:
Personally, I think it is a very nice and romantic song. When I first heard it, I didn’t like it much, but it sort of grew upon me, especially because of its sad and mysterious lyrics. I would suggest that it is about a broken relationship (not necessarily love, it could be close friendship just as well), after which one of the two persons tried to change her life drastically and became a total stranger to the other one.

@Erweetiran
Could you tell me please where you are from. I have just checked the topic “How do you feel about... (Per using references to God in his speech)”. I found the discussion very interesting, because I also disagree with him using these words in some song lyrics, and you said it was offensive to use these words in such a manner where you live.
Denstandigaresan said on January 21, 2004 14:28:
That discussion has been locked... don’t bring it in here, it got out of hand.
erweetiran said on January 21, 2004 15:15:
@Katya: South Africa, my email: [email protected]
@Denstandigaresan: I think we know that already, she was just trying to find information.
back to the first girl topic:
What does the line: “She brought her raygun and her old harpoon” mean?
Denstandigaresan said on January 21, 2004 16:08:
In case she ran into lil’freakyloo aliens on the moon? :D

I always thought it was a song about the narrator as a child. as though they are playing spaceships. like, the ship would be a cardboard box and they are out playing in the garden. it all just feels like a make-believe adventure they are having.
Max-Tob said on January 21, 2004 18:09:
I think it’s about a broken friendship between two persons or a falling apart friendship with oneself at different stages of life (as a child and as a mature not able to understand anymore what was the magic of being 12.) Something like this.

Metaphor-schmetaphor. It is what it is. Interesting story. One of my favorites.

Roxette at their best.
[That were the times. :-| ]
And yes, I also believe, it has much to do with growing up and friendship.
Santi said on January 22, 2004 21:31:
I read somewhere that it’s about a girl Per knew when they both were children. She was a very shy girl, who almost lived in her own world.
This is my favourite song, it’s simply wonderful and wonderfully simple ;)
RoXoR said on January 22, 2004 22:19:
It is really a great song, the lyrics are in a way so deep and sad but i think that depenps on own experience which point of view you have!
For me its a about loosing a important friendship because of a situation in a way totally meanless for the friendship but depending on the persons situation who is leaving (first girl on the moon) so important, that she takes the risc to loose this friendship.
When you look on the career of Roxette the song gets maybe a very special meaning for the relationship between Per and Marie, just thinking about what marie said on the really roxette documentation!

oh yeah so true :´(
Denstandigaresan said on January 22, 2004 23:19:
Yups... when you could turn on MTV, and Roxette would be on Most Wanted, singing an acoustic version of this song... etc etc etc... *Sigh*
NeverendingRoxette said on January 24, 2004 15:18:
when I listen to this song, I always think it’s about girl-power. he he he!!!
because I thought, the best people in the NASA have always been men, so I decided to think about women on the moon, when I listen to this song .
he he he! BUT I have to say, I’m not such a stupid girl-power or women power type!!!
Max-Tob said on February 1, 2004 18:29:
It must be something really important for Per. I’m sure of that. Did you see Roxette playing live this song? Just look at Per’s eyes (and there’s no need to look very carrefully) when he sings his harmonica part (but not only). I’m sure I saw tears in his eyes. Or am I crazy? I’m not the kind of person who sees tears and broken hearts all over the place, but I’m sure there’s something wet in Per’s eyes. Just look the performance from South African Tour.Just look. Now I’m really curious if it’s just me or there’s something objective... (he-he..Maybe Per is more sensitive than he lets people believe). Just look. And tell your opinion.
Max-Tob said on February 1, 2004 18:31:
...not to mention that zoom of the camera on his eyes. I think the cameraman also noticed something.
Maciek said on February 1, 2004 21:30:
I think that is very ’grow up’ song. At first ( in 1994, GOD it was 10 years ago) I didn’t like it so much. But after all theses years I think it is one of my best of the best. [Forgive my bad english]
Max-Tob said on February 1, 2004 22:47:
So...no reply to my a little bit silly (but still meaningful) question about Per performing live this song?
Max-Tob said on February 2, 2004 20:39:
Heyy you guys!! I need an answer here...Is it such a bad question or what?? C’mon! Say something!
Mary said on February 2, 2004 21:08:
Max-Tob, we must be patient and wait until someone gets to see it to check it and tell us. I can’t comment on it much cos I’m totally blind LOL so I never get to see any videos. I don’t think your question was bad; we just need to be patient; sooner or later we’ll know; hopefully!
Maciek said on February 2, 2004 22:19:
Hej Max-Tob. I know that this song was performed live on MTV Most Wanted (hosted by Ray Cokes) in 1994, juste before firsrt MTV European Music Awards where Roxette played live SIMC.
I have “First girl... (live on most wanted) only on videotape
Santi said on February 3, 2004 09:39:
Maybe I’m right and those “tears” in his eyes are because of that girl at school that he thought was “living in a world of her own”.
Maybe she was pretty important to him in some way... :D
Max-Tob said on February 3, 2004 18:42:
Thanx, you’re really nice anyway...
My question was actually refering to the South African performance which is, BTW, available (I hope it’s still there) on roxbytes. The fact is that I got this idea with Per’s wet eyes a couple of days ago and it’s still crossing through my mind: am I crazy or what? I know what I saw, but...still...don’t know for sure...I thought it must be something important for him anyway; don’t know if the song is about a dog, a friendship (this is my variant anyway), a girl or a guy, but the wet eyes seems to be real...Just check as soon as you have some spare time...
Kiwein1 said on February 3, 2004 18:53:
It looks like he has tears in his eyes - but I wouldn’t bet on it.
I am still sure that Marie has tears in her eyes while singing “Så skimrande...”, a performance which you can see on her live-dvd...but, we will never know..
Santi said on February 4, 2004 08:30:
It’s available on VHS video also, my friends gave me that one for my birthday 6 years ago! :D
gyllene_tjej said on February 5, 2004 18:40:
I saw it just for this purpose - it is a while I watched it last, and god what great memories it brought back to me :)
I must say the performance of this song is really touching, but I won’t bet it’s tears...maybe his eyes are just glittering? Or is it light? How sure are you Max-Tob? If he does shed some tears it’s really cute, though!
Max-Tob said on February 5, 2004 19:45:
That’s why I asked - because I wasn’t sure...I guess it’s like 45% real tears...
Roxlander said on February 5, 2004 22:41:
For me this song is about that kind of people who lives so freely that they must move on all time, even when they leave friend or lovers behind. She’s an adventure girl... the first girl on the moon.
m-cvk said on February 20, 2004 11:29:
I remember Marie saying (during one of the C!B!B!-concert in Rotterdam, when introducing the song)
“This song is about a friendship and you feel that it goes in different directions....very sad”
That explains a lot :-)

It’s up to you to figure out what you really want the song to be about.
I believe that it’s about... wait! I’m not gonna tell! It’s way too personal. You just make your own mind up!
Denstandigaresan said on January 20, 2004 21:54:
It’s one of Mr G’s crazy arse songs isn’t it?
She was the first girl on the moon
She didn’t compromise
When she took off that cold afternoon
Heading for the northern skies.
I told her I could come
That I could come along.
She was the first girl on the moon
I think I was her only friend
She brought her raygun, an old harpoon
Just in case of accidents.
I told her I could come
That I could come along
But she didn’t let me come along
Wave goodbye
Wave goodbye.
She was the first girl on the moon
Standing tall, flag in hand
She looked around humming a tune
The strangest song known to man.
I told her I could come
That I could come along
But she never let me come along
Wave goodbye. Wave goodbye.
LOL. Fruitloopy lyrics.
Maybe there is a story behind it... maybe about achieving the impossible... or something?!?
Or he was bored. ;)
