Don't know how you feel...

I don’t know how you feel about the fact that Per always like to use the words Lord, God and Jesus in his songs and in his normal everyday talk...where I come from this is VERY offending and not a nice thing to hear your ’idol’ say...Don’t know how you feel about it?

I don’t remember his saying any of those words...

Where Per comes from it’s not offending.

Nope, not the least bit offensive.
One guy I used to speak to from Russia, didn’t believe me when I said some songs are about sex, ’Per wouldn’t do that’, blablabla... Oh yes he would!

This is joke, right? Offending when Per says word god or lord? I really don’t get it. So it is also offending when Per talks about Santa Claus?

You’re strange, good God!!!!!

Thinking they’re thinking along the lines of, ’Don’t take the lords name in vain’... or whatever it is, but I really don’t think Per singing about him/her/them is the same thing.
He’s not being rude towards god/jesus... the devil... whoever.
If he was blaspheming, ok, i’d get this... but as far as I can see, he’s doing no such thing.

I don’t think it’s meant to be offensive...they’re just ’fillers’, misusage of the words...

I don’t like the Kelly family and me starting to listen to something else is like me changing families so it is just something I have to live with so all I am asking if some here feels the same.

I meant it as: someone should not use the Lords name in vain... which is in the BIBLE...

so if you don’t believe in these kind of stuff, sure I will understand, but I am sure that there are people in this form that believes in this.

Per miss use his name ALOT...
Songs:
1. God give a little lovin’ - Crush on you
2. and Lord I still do - Crash! Boom! Bang!
3. vintage Jesus - I love the sound of Crashing Guitars
4. 727 - The way he speaks to ’god’
ect.
Not songs:
Have you read the new news topic where he mentioned the word Jesus? ect.

When you start using god..../..../.....’s name as a space filler then you are miss using the word and in a Christian religion that is a HUGE sin!

I wish I would have your problems... my life would be just GREAT!!! ;o)

And I thought I have some wierd ideas and thoughts from time to time!

Vintage JESUS?

I always thought it was vintage CHEESES.

*crying from laughter*

I’ve never heard about that... Of course it’s not offensive and I didn’t understand why you think it is. Where do you come from??....

i think in C!B!B! its more a case of prayin... or speaking to god. not really using “Lord” in a bad way is it?

nah, I don’t think it’s a bad thing. adds more depth to the song in most cases.
LOL @ MM! you foooooooool!

what’s offensive in that? I think it is just okej, after all God can easily become a part of the song, why not?! And i don’t see any poin in thinking Per uses the address forms as pausefillers. Not at all... I wish I only had such problems too :)

If people are REALLY offended I’m sure they stay clear of listening to horrible Per.

oH mY gOD, eRWEE!! i THINK YOU NEED TO GET OUT OF THE COUNTRYSIDE - THE SMALLMINDEDNESS IS GOIN’ TO UR HEAD!!

Oh dear god... *Shakes head*.
Ooops, I think I did wrong there.
But I don’t feel bad.
*Waits for god to strike me with lightning*
Nope, nothing happening.

I did my time at church, I got baptised... but, now I only worship at the altar of Roxette. ;)

Well, I’m prepared to go to hell if that’s what it’ll take to listen to Rox/Mf/PG... always liked hot weather!!

Oh BTW Erwee, i take issue to ur impossed gender on God...

Erwee: I met someone once who got offended by me saying “Jesus” once as something went wrong. Oh well I told him to buzz off. You know why? I am not Christian and I do not believe in Christianity. My faith is MY business and noone else’s. I might deny the existence of God at times but I do say oh God or things like that when I feel like it. I might even say Jesus or Lord again when I feel like it. It’s not planned. I just say it. It shows deep down inside I have this little belief in some bigger power I might have never believed in. As for Per’s songs... What is wrong with saying Lord I still do in Spending My Time? I cry along with the lyrics when I listen to that song. It’s such a strong phrase that you feel like you want to get down on your knees, scream and cry. Because we as people, most of us lets not generalize, we tend to ask God for help when we are in need the most. You get it or do you want me to explain more?! Plus, if Per wanted to think of every single person on this planet when writing his songs, he could have never come up with a sentence since we all think differently. He cannot change his way of writing songs for me, you or anyone else. We are the ones who must be flexible with his writings. That’s how some like certain songs and others like oh well some others don’t like those certain ones. I don’t want to judge you but oh God I totally don’t get you!

*still chuckling*

long-haired vintage cheeses. . .

MM: Before having access to the world of internet many years ago and also not having the original Roxette albums when I was in Iran, I used to write the lyrics to each song in a book I called “ Holy Notebook”. I used to put it beside my pillow before going to bed and took it wherever I went. Pretty nut eh!? Well looking at it now, I laugh so hard reading through the pages. Oh God! Same mistake as you’d made and more. They were horrible. I should get that book published. It would be a good comic book.

It’s just a word

MM: I guessed you weren’t all there, this just about confirms it. ;)

OMG!! *careful not to actually mention the word* ...some people are sooo fekkin sensitive!!!

Erwee, dude, luister.... You seriously have a problem taking lyrics out of context. I’m not going to explain to you exactly why those phrases with Lord, God and Jesus were used cos I just dont have the time nor the energy. I think a couple of ppl above my reply have said it already anyways. Jeez, lighten up! It’s not like he IS using it in vain - in vain would be if he had “Oh my God!” or “Jesus Christ!” in a lyric. Using God, Oh Lord and vintage Jesus is not using God’s name in vain. Quite the opposite actually.

Btw, what IS God’s name? It can’t be “God/Lord” can it?

Cheers

Wow people, My question was how do YOU feel about it?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?

The reason I mentioned some of those lyrics was because someone said that is never use those words, It didn’t mean I had problems with those specific lines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reason why I like this topic so much was because someone else metioned this issue to me...And also please note that my first language is not English so try to understand what I am trying to say to you.

Also I kinda like the “you are pathetic” attitude that the people have in this form(sarcasm) I think this was a topic that I just wanted your opinion but maybe that was to much to ask.

When he said Sweet Jesus after getting that awards that was VERY OFFENDING to me as a Christian so all I wanted to know was: do you feel the same. Yes or No would have done

No.

jebus, no

@Erwee: >the “you are pathetic” attitude

@ erweetiran

When I first read you post I thought to myself “This person has just opened the door for a world of abuse from fellow users of this board...

...and sadly, it appears I was right.

I tend to agree with your later post, and that is that it is a sad reflection when you can’t post a reasonable comment without receiving a barrage of abuse in response.

There was a time when this board was incredibly well managed, particular credit to Lars-Erik for his professional moderation here. Now, many posts are nothing more than electronic boxing rings.

The fun has long gone...

Shame.

@erweetiran: No, as a Christian myself, I’m not offended. It’s the way language has evolved now, *everybody* says “oh my God”, or “Sweet Jesus”. Even I say it.

I’m more offended by rappers whose lyrics and songs are about bitches and pimpin’ and shooting cops, and they come on these award shows and thank God for being their inspiration. Yeah, I’m sure God digs that.

I honestly believe that at the end, a long, long time from now, when Per is at St. Peter’s gate and checking into heaven, they’re going to ask him more about all the good and joy he spread to everyone around him– they probably wouldn’t give a rat’s ass about how many times he’s said the “G” or “J” word.

I honestly don’t see the “abusing” some people mention in this thread? A question was asked and people respond. I’ve seen a lot worse. Could it be that not one has agreed with the original poster, that makes it “abusive”?

When was the last time someone asked a question on here, and got a simple, yes/no answer... it ain’t gonna happen.
Christian here too... but I still say ’Oh God’ etc... better than saying ’Oh f*ck’.

Hell no!

well im christian, and i got a feeling in this day and age that we live in, that GOD has more problems than if we use a certain someones name in a certain way or not lol ow please this is really stupid lol , ow god it have me laugh.

People who aren’t Christian can use the word ’god’ anyway they like... since obviously their god is the world and it’s petty (but admittedly appealing) riches, and not the Christian God.

’Jesus’ is another matter entirely however...

not feeling anything at all since I don’t believe in God... I myself use these words “oh my god” or “jesus” just like that. So Per has my allowance to go on using whatever words he wants in his songs ;) (if he ever feels he needs any allowance :P)

Why do you have to be so intolerant against Christian people? That is much more smallminded... I am no hard core Christian, but I sure can understand that you can get offended by someone using the aforementioned phrases if you are. It can’t be easy to love the music of someone who has a totally different view of live than you do.

If the words are offensive, skip the track!

Zargo: And where did you read that a Christian’s “God” is any different than a Jew’s “God” or a Muslim’s “God”? God is God. We all have a different perspective on this matter but at the very end, it’s all the same. “since obviously their god is the world and it’s petty (but admittedly appealing) riches”: This is odd!

Anarem: I loved what you said. That was well said. Wow!

@DaminehGessle: ²And where did you read that a Christian’s “God” is any different than a Jew’s “God” or a Muslim’s “God”? God is God. We all have a different perspective on this matter but at the very end, it’s all the same. “
WELL SAID!!!! Couldn’t have said it better myself!

And no, I’m not offended at all, when Per uses words like “God” or “Jesus”. I do it myself as well!

I fought with me whether to answer to this topic or not...

First of all, Christians, Jews and Muslim have the “same” God though every of these religions though we use different names...

I think it’s perfectly natural with your cultural background to use God’s or Jesus’s name (in case your Christ) and Muslims use Allah’s name even more often...

SolensVaen: I thought you were going to bomb me! hehe.

Has there ever been written anywhere in any book on any stone that using God’s name is offending?! I wonder!

Zargo didn’t say that the other religions god were different.
I automatically think christian/catholic when someone mentions God... and that’s what this topic is on... Christian beliefs.

no offence here but are we all in some kind of post-xmas crisis? lately ppl have come up with quite weird thoughts/ questions (not meaning they are not valid or stupid or whatever, just different to what we are used to :D)

I know I am. ;)
I’m on a weird one at mo. ;)

When I posted this the first time I never thought that it would get THIS response...the reason you might ask: “I didn’t think as much of it like some people here make it out to be, that is out of interest sake I posted this message”

If if bothered me so much I would have posted it a LONG time ago.

@tevensso: Read Denstandigaresan message he gave to me. That is NOT an opinion, that is him trying to be smart.

The people in this forum ASSUME ALOT!!! What you must remember is that you are not here with me to see my facial expresions or actions while I am typing so you can’t ASSUME that I have a HUGE problem with this and ASSUME that I did this to bad-mouth Per...so I beg of all: “Before you post a reply please think before you post” Because alot of people are asuming things that is not true and all my aim was to find out if you felt that way or not. If you didn’t felt that way fine you don’t but there is ABSOLUTLY NO NO NO NO NO reason to tell me :”If you hate it so much, stop listening” I think I am big enough to make that decision myself. People here are sarcastic(sometimes it is funny) but sometimes is some of the forums you people give stupid and sarcastic comments to posts like the following one: “Someone once asked about the pics in the cd booklet” and he/she got the most terrible comments...”Go buy the cd if you want to see it”

I really think people should stop trying to think they are more smart than the previous one and read what is being said before they jump to conclusions...

AGAIN ALLLLLLL I WANTED WAS TO KNOW IF YOU FELT THE SAME...If you did and you said why then fine If you didn’t and you explained why then fine, but try to leave the MR. SMART act at the door.

talking about ASSUMING, Denstandigaresan is a SHE ;)

Where am I being smart?? :S
I’m a girl btw.

You can’t see MY facial expressions. I am not being smart! I was telling you/others what I’ve experienced.

But I must add. I feel privileged, after some of the stuff people have said on here towards you, that you single me out. WOOHOO!

No.

I’m Christian and I know it’s a sin to say the God’s Names but I must say (maybe I’m wrong, probably...) I say the God’s Names many times and I think God won’t get angry for that (it’s something i believe is not very intelligent but we’d be discussing about religious things which are not very related to this topic). So i think God won’t worry if Per says them too. But this is just my opinion. Maybe in your country, the people is very religious and you have your way of living... Every country is different...

Keep On Roxin’

Actually I was sitting down playing with my new toy, a new spectrometer (interesting invention), and thinking at the same time about things. Then I said aaaaaaa God. My friend turned around and I responded: “what? you think it’s offensive?” He said that he wasn’t but the sound I made was interesting. So I told him about the topic of this forum. He laughed and told me the way I said “aaaaaaa God” was nothing near offensive. So I will continue saying that and do not care if anyone standing beside me gets offended. Afterall, we are living in a free world where I can have any beliefs I want and can say whatever I want to say. Those who have a problem can cover the ears. And no erweet this is not to you, just something that just happened and somehow related to this.

*BORED*

Oh, and if you could only see my facial expressions right now!

OK, so this topic has played out.

Hello, this absurde! Hello, this absurde!

^^^ Do we get some spam here or what?

Offending ? :-O ... a 1000€ you are a Jehovas Withness... Anyway. I don’t anyone who would find that offending, besides one friend of. And she is a JW ... But I don’t just people on there religion.

But nice post - I had a laugh :-) ... Just noticed - The orig post is from 2004 :-O

Nice, or at least interesting post. I haven’t seen it before.

Personally, I don’t find offensive the fact that Per on his lyrics or anybody else when speaking use words like God, Jesus...

I was brought up as a Catholic, and, through the years, I found out that, usually, the Catholic Church itself has used and still uses God and Jesus name for doing what they want. We don’t have to forget the Inquisition, the biggest massacre in name of God.

If that is not misuse God’s name, I need someone to tell what it is then.

i can’t believe how insensitive you people have been to erwee. i’m not a christian and i don’t plan to be one but i do respect other peoples beliefs. in christianity it is very offensive to use “the lords name in vain” and you should be respectful of that. erwee was not telling per to change his lyrics.

No but he did ask how others felt about it, apparently they strongly disagree. Besides, the post is nearly 4 years old. :)

I have read all the comments and I agree with Micki: most of those posts were disrespectful towards the person that started this thread.

Personally I don’t get offended when Per uses words “God” or “Jesus” in his lyrix. There are a few reasons. First, I prefer believing in upper power like “God” than following rules, which were made by someone else. Second, as not-native English speaker, while listening to the music, I pay more attention to the melody, not to the lyrix. In general, Per could have written a song about a washmachine with the melody of The Look, and I would have loved the song!

Du borde sett hur underbart jag mår

Some people misunderstood the real thing. The prohibition to use the lords name in vain is in another context. It means you shouldn’t swear, make a vow, or do something on his name. It doesn’t mean you can’t mention in a song, a poem or whatever. By the way, god may refer to Zeus or Poseidon. They were gods too, technically. And a person can be named Jesus too, there’s no rule prohibition on that either.

May I ask one little thing? After 3 huge set of comments, agreements and desagreements about this post.... what the hell is it all about?

I mean do we need to say so much just to simply say yes or nor and instead we begin assuming X or Y about whatever and whoever? Jesus (LOL) ... Roxette camp ... always the same, it will never change ... God bless the day HAND was released in 99 that was the beginning of all this .... LOL

Anyway I personally believe it can be offensive for anyone who is Christian Catholic because these tend to be more “agressive” towards situations like these in general not accepting it well... but at the same time they don’t do anything to “stop” it so life goes on anyway. It’s just “blah blah blah” ... I have my own mother as a proof of that sort of religious behaviour. But to the general Christian I don’t see how it can be offesive. It depends on the way you were religiously brought up and raised and how you perceive your own religion. For as long as there ain’t no fundamentalist and obcessive attitude towards these “little things” I’m okey with it. Respect and tolerance are important and it would be really important as well to judge based on contextual circumstances.

I mean, Per says “sweet Jesus” ... I personally see nothing wrong with it nor I believe this corrupts any christian belief as it does not say Per does not take his religious beliefs seriously. But for anyone who finds it a bit hard to see things that way ... the key is not allow “cultural schocks” to overtake you and missinterprete these things. Regardless you own belief ... make sure you understand the “whys” behind these matters and then you have complete legitimacy to judge it. Don’t throw your own belief onto others just to say “i’m the only one right and you’re not” and saddly this is what for me describes religious fundamentalism. But when it comes to Chrsitianity this is not so much the case. More conserning than the hipocrisy surrouding Vatican ,.. it’s the middle east religous fundamentalism and thank God Per ’s choice of words is not affecting those. LOL

Peace everyone! and Have a nice day! LOL Room service, please! :) My answer was actually “No” and “Yes” at the same time ... but I had to explain why obviously! Before anyone grabs my words and makes a WW3 out of it! LOL

Maybe Per just wanted to express his feelings about God and Jesus!
