Enrique rips off Stupid?

yes, TheRain1981 is right. the only thing that is similiar is that E D A chord thing. melody is different, chorus also.

I have not heard Free, but if its really plagiarism, then Per should sue Enrique! That should give Roxette a lot of media attention.
joyrider said on December 11, 2003 12:28:
this is extreme!! another stupid version ;) i like it are there other roxettish songs on his new album?
cskendras said on December 11, 2003 12:30:
@joyrider:
there are some other nice songs on “7”, but for me it’s to much lolly-pop-music :-P though media says: “oooh how enrique rocks this time...blabla”

OK SO WHAT I HEARD FROM THE ALBUM SUCKS ANY LINK TO FREE NOONE HAS A SAMPLE OF IT

This thread raises the question (again!!!): why the roxettish type of sound is successful (enough) in our days and the original roxette sound isn’t succesful anymore?... I think we all can developp a list of the artists that “borrowed” roxette type of music (more or less) and they are on the top right now... it’s almost strange...(let’s avoid invoquing the EMI handicap one more time)

LOL. Wow. I’ve had the album for a few weeks now and didn’t even notice the similarities between “Free” and “Stupid.” The guitar riff is definitely there! But to sue over? It’s not a duplicate copy. I could find many more songs with more similarities than these two.
tevensso (moderator) said on December 13, 2003 12:02:
Hmm, I don’t think it’s that stolen, if that’s stolen then the guitars in Dressed for Success are too.. (Wild Thing) :)
kerA said on December 13, 2003 15:18:
Oh no - there’s a HUGE difference between Wild Thing and Dressed for Success. It would be too far to say it’s a copy.
As regards to Enrique...I think it is a plagiarism in the most rude version and Roxette should sue him!
It’s in a pair with “God is A Girl” case.

If you go to www.bmi.com you’ll see that ’God is a girl’ is now listed under songwriter/composer Per Gessle :-)

i did‘t pay attention. But there is a song on the album called Brake me Shake me and the intro of the song sounds like a sample of the band Savage Garden Tears Of Pearls the guitar riff on the end of the song. Also savage garden all ready has a song called Brerak Me Shake Me.
But it is great he used a sample of Roxette so you can see that Roxette & Savage Garden are 1 of the greatest band in the world

I also thought the australian artist ’Vanessa Amorosi’ ripped off ’Stupid’ a few years ago with a single called ’Have a look’ .
The chorus guitars sound VERY similar to Stupids verse guitars! I even played ’Stupid’ to a dj playing ’Have a look’ at the time and he agreed with me :)

@imazombieinthemoonlight -
Yeah, you’re absolutly right, it’s even closer to it than the enrique song. Was that song released before or after Stupid?
Odds are if it’s been done after Gessle, then it’s quite possible it’s been done before him as well...
imazombieinthem... said on December 14, 2003 07:47:
’Have a look’ was on her album that was released in 2000. Plenty of time to pinch that from Per :)
Kama said on December 14, 2003 09:19:
You’re right. Free is exactly copied from Stupid. I’m shocked how very similiar is this song to Gessle’s song. Gessle take this bastard to the court!
Pascal said on December 14, 2003 13:03:
Yeah, there are a lot of similarities between Free and Stupid.
TheRain1981 said on December 16, 2003 04:03:
LOL. Did anyone ever think that this wasn’t done on purpose? Considering the millions of songs out there it is quite possible that some will have similar structures and arrangements even if the artist does not know if his/her recording sounds like someone else’s recording.
royalball said on December 21, 2003 16:22:
I agree...the chord thing is there...but the melody is a little different. It’s a little close...I don’t think there’ll be a lawsuit. We’ll see what happens.

Just read this review of Enrique’s album on a Canadian website... looks like a lot of this material was “inspired” by other artists...
ENRIQUE IGLESIAS 7 (Interscope/Universal)There’s nothing particularly offensive about Enrique’s latest album; well, some of the lyrics are painful, but at least he co-writes his own pap. Then again, there’s nothing particularly special, either. Less Latin than Ricky, less intelligent than Robbie, less danceable than Kylie, less talented than X-tina and less produced than Justin, Enrique is like J-Lo: pretty looking and quite the multi-taskmaster, but not all that, y’know, “good.” Thus, new, decent songs (“Say It,” the Neptunesque “Not In Love” and “Live It Up Tonight”) sound like old, OK ones. New, horrible songs (the others) sound like old, ugh-ly ones. Move on to a different pop star and save your money, boys and girls. Speaking of money… if George Michael has faith in the litigating powers of his legal team, he may want to take a listen to the chorus of the third track. Erik Missio

...download or buy (whichever way you prefer) the new song from Enrique’s new cd called: Free
I BET you that you will hear a very well know Per Gessle/Roxette song’s beat/melody as the foundation of this song...the songs name: Stupid!
Get it you will be in TOTAL SHOCK and might even like the song because of this reason!
