Does anyone know why Roxette copied the logo of NHL for making the logo of Roxette?
Is it legal? :D

When it first came out I mentioned that it looked more like the Salvation Army logo...don’t know which thread it’s under...but it also looks like the NHL too.

The only similarity is the shape of a badge with diagonal typeface on it. Nobody has copyrights on this, since it’s a common symbol, used since several centuries.

yes, it’s a “classical” shape... a lot of football clubs here have logos more or less like that.

Well, in the beginning I thought of FC Barcelona (it’s a Spanish football team), but then I realised NHL’s logo shape looked even more similar to it. Thanks for the explanation.

Not exactly the same, but I can see where you’re coming from.
That shield shape is a common enough heraldric shape for a coat of arms. And the dimensionality that’s been given to the edging is different, as well, of course, as the content. I wouldn’t be surprised if the graphic designer that came up with that logo was unaware of the similarities. Since that was created for Room Service, I would assume that they were trying to come up with something snazzy and hotel-esque. I would think there’s a hotel somewhere that might raise an eyebrow, though.
And since there’s plagiarism laws that preclude parody—and I would probably classify Roxette’s logo there—it’s likely not a big concern for the design house. (I have to consider that rather often in my professon as a graphic designer. Nothing new under the sun, as they say.)
And if not then they’re rotten bastards that should be beaten with a bag of doornobs. Wth the NHL logo on the side.
Interesting to compare, though. Thanks.
