So we’ve had umpteen Favorites threads, it’s time for the opposite side of that particular coin. You know somebody loves then, but what songs do ABSOLUTELY nothing for you, you can’t stand, you skip to the next song on the CD, whatever.

Me—

Cinnamon Street (Tourism version)
Vulnerable (Lovely sentiment, but kinda ho-hum—like the whistles, though)
Little Girl (Not Marie’s finest vocal performance)

ATAY(sorry in advance)
ON
sometimes such “easy” songs like COY,7-t-7 but just because of the mood and because i love ballads
almost all songs from RS,except 3 or 4.(it’s my personal taste, though may be silly))))

Unlike almost every other group or person I’ve ever listened to, there is not even one song by Roxette (that I’ve heard - I haven’t got all the b-sides yet) that I do not like. Nothing that I even remotely wish to skip. Especially not on the much-maligned HAND and RS...

I love HAND—my favorite of the releases. From start to finish, just one solid song after another. Stayed in the CD player for months after I bought it. Even my least favorite, Cooper (I’ll cop to skipping that when I’m pressed for time or not in the mood), is pretty darn good.

Hi guys!

IMHO:

- Church of your Heart: Why, OH WHY was that song unleashed as a single when there were far superior Joyride songs to choose from?!

There’s a couple more, some involving some of PGs weirder and whackier lyrics, but on the whole I think a few songs out of all their CD releases is not a bad average at all :)

hmm my skipping exercises...lol this should be fun

pop

turn to me: its a descent meldoy but marie belts the song out too much

ls : dressed for success....i never liked it as a single actually and i think its kinda repetitive

joyride: perfect day....it never felt like the right way to close the album its way too sad

tourism: the live version of joyreide it sounds like a mess

rarities: smt electric dance mix

cbb: go to sleep sounds like it was tacked onto the end of the album

baladas: not a single track

hand: you can’t put ur bals around whats already blue that song SUCKS!

rs: try only because i don’t think its mariesbest vocal

ballad hits: none

pop[ hits: little miss sorrrow...cause she’s no jefferson

Not keen on:

Spending My Time
Milk & Toast & Honey
Opportunity Nox

@squigger: good for you :)

I never skip any songs and never will, and there’s a good reason for it. Roxette is like a monumental painting, each song - a piece of it. To cut out a track means to deprive the whole picture of some meaning.
I understand loving or not loving a song - but the difference exists for those only, who enjoy Roxette. Now I don’t get how someone _interested_ in the band can skip something. I mean, you don’t skip parts of Bible when you read it, eh?..

Just coz I skip a few tracks doesn’t mean I’m not intrested in Roxette as a band I just find some tracks tedious, I don’t see how this makes me less intrested.

If I was to listen to a whole album the trax I’d be skipping these days would most likely be...

Vulnerable, I Was So Lucky, Cooper, Jefferson, I Could Never Give You Up, Crashing Guitars, Call Of The Wild.

When the albums first came out I’d have been listening to them all the time all the way thru....but now after all this time theres trax I like and trax I don’t like as much.

And yes....I skipped parts of the bible ;) .... like most of it ;)

Joy of a Toy - boring and weird
View From a Hill (eeewww) - a horrible try to do Europop á la SAW (Stock, Aitken, Waterman)
Go to Sleep - BORING
Waiting For the Rain - boring
Little Girl (yuk) - I have no words about this song, it’s absolutely dreadful

And basically any song that Marie’s been involved with.

@infofarmer: Yes, you’re right, and in whole I love all the songs, never skip them and consider them to be the pieces of a picture.
But I think there can be smth in your favorite group that you don’t like.
That is my disappointment about RS. But for me they are still the best!
PS: POP-LS-Joyride-CBB- that’s a “Bible” and that’s a colorful picture for me. Now it’s fading…a little))))
@tevensso:but why?)))

I always skip Vulnerable and I really NEVER listen to any demo sung by Per - they’re just AWFUL, especially Anyone, MaTaH, WICF and C!B!B!

Jefersson.- (becouse is like gyllene tider)

Staring at the ground.- (boring)

You can t put.....- (lot of “punchi - punchi” )

Place your love.- (.......zzzzzzzzz)

Do you wanna go the whole way.- (?)

Cry.- ( zzzzzzz........ )

Waiting For The Rain
Anyone
Vulnerable
Looking For Jane
Most demo’s sung by Per.
I don’t hate them... I dislike them. Songs I class as I hate, are ones that make my ears bleed... and I don’t think any roxette song has done that... made me reach for a razor to slit my throat maybe! ;)

@inforarmer—very interesting. Good for you. *BTW—I don’t think the room is bugged* ;)

But I’d also add:

Skipping a track or two in the catalogue isn’t sacrelege. We all could quote chapter and verse on these less favored songs, but—like the Bible (which I’d predict nobody reads from Genesis to Revelations EVERY time; you go for an appropriate verse more than anything)—you don’t need to hear them each time to feel Roxette in it’s totality. It doesn’t diminish my interest in them one bit.

As for Roxette as a monumental painting metaphor—If I think the cherub’s foot in the upper left corner is painted badly, I don’t sit and stare at it for four minutes just to get the overall feeling of the art. I look at the things I like and appreciate that, maybe glance at that cherub once in a while. The whole piece isn’t ruined for me. :)

this sounds like fun so I’m game. I skip:

Soul deep
View from a hill
The look (live)
Love is all
Little girl

not that many, huh? :)

I Call Your Name

Plllleeeeeease Per and marie - STOP calling my name!!!!!!!

and ( Iwait to be flamed, grilled and served in a sesame bun)

I always skip IMHBL......

nice song - but just been over-played in my life.

I skip most of Room Service, i listen to RS / TCOTH / M&T&H / Fool / and MWMLML. The rest is skipped!

HAND is great - nothing skipped.

Vulnerable, View From A Hill, Church Of Your Heart and nothing else! Not bad considering how many songs they’ve recorded!

I can’t say that there are any songs that i hate or always skip, but some songs would I not go and select to here one time more that the rest of the songs, that church of your heart and vulnarable

It depends.

Some songs I usually skip are:
It will take a long long time
Try
Turn to me

When it comes to demos sung by Per (or any demos by the Rox-gang for that matter) I always find them interesting. But I agree that songs like C!B!B! & MATAH suits Marie better.

roflol! All I meant was that I’m thinking about the songs I love when I’m building my winamp playlist, not the ones I hate. And wherEVER I hear a rox-tune I become all ears. It’s cuz I like their music. And it doesn’t matter if it’s Soul Deep or The Weight of the World, I love their stuff. That’s it.
’sides, I’ve never read the Bible. Maybe somewhen... :)

Hehehe. I was a bit worried you were orbiting some special fan-planet there, LOL. And I only get into the Bible when I absolutely have to. ;D

I usually skip the singles cos I’ve heard them so much and am sick of them and stick to the album tracks.

e.g. The Look, WICF.

Dave

I think LTYH had so much air time in Sweden and the rest of LS. I love the album, but feel better refreshed with other albums, interested, any Swedes agree??

infofarmer -

Actually, I’ve just realised that I would probably hate whatever it is that’s on Baladas En Espanol should I ever be subjected to it - but then I don’t count that as a real Roxette album anyway :)

coyboyusa -

“joyride: perfect day....it never felt like the right way to close the album its way too sad”

I’ve never thought of it as sad, more weary yet hopeful - and if one cares about such things (and I don’t particularly :), a fairly good way to end an album, especially one with 15 songs on it.

“tourism: the live version of joyreide it sounds like a mess”

Well, that’s what live stuff is, a mess - but I’ve heard lots of live stuff, and the few live Roxette recordings I know are far, far superior to normal live material (for a start it sounds like the real version, lots of live songs sound nothing like they should - Roxette can actually play their instruments and sing properly, this seems to be somewhat rare...), just as their demos are far more polished than is considered normal.

I skip most of the ballads... after the up-tempo songs have put me on a high, why would i want to sink back into ballad mode for?

Soul deep*the look*dressed for..*joyride(too much airplay)HDYD!*ILTSOCG*H&I*Lies*Pay the price*RS*Jefferson*MMHGP*ON...* The big L

I rarely skip Rox trax.

BTW, a year ago or so (or was it 2001?) there was a thread on TDR about the most significant mistakes Roxette and their management have ever made. Does anyone remember? We could surely use it to find what to blame Roxette for :) Still the discussion was far more reasonable then...

View From a Hill

I skip...

Most of POP (loved it way back when, but not now)

Pretty much the second half of Look Sharp (with the exception of Chances, Dangerous, and Listen To Your Heart)
Church Of Your Heart from Joyride

Keep Me Waiting and Cinnamon Street from Tourism
Harleys and Indians, Vulnerable, Place Your Love (WTF???), and Love Is All (boring!) from C!B!B!

Waiting For The Rain (sorry Marie), 7Twenty7, and Cooper from Have A Nice Day,

Make My Head Go Pop from Room Service. Ugh, what were they thinking?

Just my 2 cents. :-)

Call of the wild...what was per thinking? I never listen to POP much these days.

View from a Hill....hahaha! Chances isn’t that great either, especially towards the end of the song.

Physical fascination....what’s this? Rock, pop...dance maybe?

Heart shaped sea...missing some action over here.

Vulnerablebleblah!...BTW I always skip the end of love is all...but both songs are not that bad.

Cooper. Strange, very strange song.....

Waiting for the rain...I’m still waiting for the moment that song catches me.

Stars...to much techno, to little rox.

Make my head go pop....see critics on Stars. And what about that middle 8 part?? Jeeezzz.....

Cry and Dangerous.

Pearls - I usually do´t skip any track.. but sometimes I just jump right to “Secrets that she keeps”, skipping “Soul deep”

LS! - I don´t skip any track!

Joyride - The big L., Soul deep

Tourism - I don´t skip any track!

C!B!B!- Crash!Boom!Bang! (sometimes... :0), Love is all

Baladas en español - the whole album!! ;)
I´m kidding, when I hear it, I skip “Soy una mujer” and “Quiero ser como tu”

HAND - Anyone, Cooper

Room Service - Make my head go pop

That´s it!

the nr of songs that I skipped some years ago was lower than now.. but well, from the “former times”

- pop: soul: deep yuk yuk yuk, turn to me: boring (just like the part when marie doesN’T sing “turn to me”)
- look sharp: view from a hill
- joyride: soul deep, Knockin’ On Every Door, Church of your heart, physical
- tourism: the look + joyride live, too messy. Queen of rain, always found it boring, even Marie’s voice is top.
- CBB: love is all – zzzzzz
- baladas: all of them, haven’t listened to this crap for ages.
- HAND*: salvation, beautiful things (why oh why didn’t they keep the fast one????), i was so lucky. I guess also the spanish tracks, but I don’t have them.
- RS*: real sugar, bringing me down..
* find these 2 albums just average though.
- the ballad + pop hits.. dunno, haven’t listened to them more than 1x.

EDIT: bout Rox + the pieces of art.. sure each song can be taken like a piece of art.. but then, I doubt the good art experts *adore* any single painting El Greco, Van Gogh or Dali ever painted...

voices
view from a hill
soul deep
the first girl on the moon
place your love
anyone
staring at the ground
cooper
bringing me down to my knees
try(just a little bit harder)

I listened to Ballades yesterday and remembered why I don’t play that one very often.

Also listened to RS—Make My Head. Nice beat and good start to a lyric then we get that “feed the ducks with a bun.” Was there NO better rhyme for that? Something with sun maybe? Fun, shoot the ducks with a gun would have been slightly more preferable even.

And that whole liturgcal chorus should have seeeeriously been rethought. Talk about derailing a song.
