Hmm...I’m looking on SO FAR AWAY lyrics and have some problems with understandig of those
lines (I don’t speak English fluently yet). Can anyone help me with this...
1. “Still I felt the feeling near” - what does it mean
(CONTEXT: “In the bright and silent night,
Winds would knock and disappear.
Still I felt the feeling near,
Like the first time you were ever here.”)
2. Uhmm...I’m almost too shy to ask, but Marie sings “I keep on asking how,
Oh come unto me now.”
and in the end she changes the line to
“I keep on wondering how,
Oh come inside me now.”
What does it mean?

Oh, well...Per does these kind of things sometimes (I am still talking about the lirix, of course)...And Marie sings them very well...I remember when I was a teenager and I first listened to So far away...I noticed the power of those words sung by Marie...she’s the only one who can sing such things without being dirty but, still, being very exciting...
Per knows very well why he uses such things...There’s someone who can really sing such stuff!!!

When PoP first came out in 1986 a Swedish critic said this was probably the raunchiest piece of lyrics Per ever had written. He also said that this song would never get any airplay in England, not that Roxette ever would be played outside of Sweden anyways. Guess he was wrong.

@coyboyusa:I’ve told about the same meaning. There is nothing rude in lyrics.Per can say everything clearly like in “Sleeping in my car” and “Do you wanna go...” I guess there is no need to find “action” in every “inside”.

I think “Come unto me now” sounds better anyway, its more subtle.

I’ve always blushed at the ’come inside me’ bit. Someone at college noticed it to... “Did she just say what I think she said”? :D
I had to explain to a old pal of mine, the meaning behind... ’Do You Wanna Go The Whole Way’.
Wouldn’t have it that some songs were actually about sex... “They wouldn’t do that”??
Hmmm... I resisted the temptation to go through all the songs with rudey meanings.

As for So Far Away, I believe this song is one of the reasons Tourism is one of my all time favourites. Songs such as this and Never Is a Long Time which you can sing loudly and half way through, your voice starts trembling and your heart aches all the way through. Although I must admit when I am singing it loudly (which I love to do with any piece of music), I always whisper the “Come inside me now” part. It just happens that I do it. It indeed sounds very you know... sexy... But overall, whatever it is supposed to mean, the song is amazing.

If I can add my two cents: I wouldn’t try to find a different sense of the words in this case. It’s kind of hypocritic. “Come inside me now” means what it means, it’s a strong sexual invitation. Very obvious, very clear. BUT I don’t think it’s rude, it’s beautiful, because this is a song about the woman who’s broken hearted, who really misses her lover, who wants to be with him so bad that she doesn’t care about the words anymore. It’s about the really big love - the love, which doesn’t look for any approval from the “world outside”. I think that, when you’re in love, there is a point of no return, the point when nothing really matters beside Big L. “So Far Away” is the song about this point of no return.
Beside, doesn’t Marie sing it so wonderfuly? (but I prefer the original version, not Tourism’s one). “So Far Away” is my fav Rox-song!

I like the Tourism version better because it’s so subdued– it’s just Marie, a couple of instruments, and not the overdramatic singing that she did in the POP version. Just my 0.02 $ CDN!

I like Tourism’s version too, but prefer the original because of its very dramatic interpretation. And it really shows Marie’s Amazing Voice.
BTW- From the “technical” point of view it’s almost impossibe to sing SFA in the way Marie sings it on Pearls of Passion. You need to have “opera-voice” to go for it. There ain’t a lot songs like this one in pop/rock music (some of Queen’s songs were like that).
