Borgholm Castle

Hello,
Next year I want to go and visit the Borgholm Castle to see the place where the LTYH video was shot!
Can anyone tell me, what the best way is to get there? And what else there is to be seen on the island? And are there good places to stay, like camp sites?
Many thanx in advance!
Speedo

Where are you flying from? We (myself & a friend) flew from the UK with Ryanair... 1. Because they’re cheap 2. Because they flew to Kristianstad. From there we got a train to Kalmar & a bus over to Borgholm... but if you can, by car would be easiest, I guess.
The site that Thomas mentions is handy and also the following:

In Borgholm, about 2 or 3 km from the castle there is a good youth hostel (STF). That is a way to spend your time on Oland.
If you are interested in birdwatching (or other nature), the most southern point of the island is very well worth a look (and the very northern part also, but just a little less).
In Mysinge and Gettlinge you can find remains of the period from the stone age to the iron age.
In Eketorp is a big Ring-ford, with some imagination you can understand how life was in these days.
Oland has loads of windmills.
You can reach Oland by car via Kalmar.

@ Speedo.
Hej - I have some more time now and so more info on Borgholm for you. Harriej is good there is a fort and lots of wildlife on the island. There is light houses north and south. The whole island is very green and peace and nature is very different there. I do not know if you speak Swedish, but the tourist site is www.borgholm.se you can get some more help there.
My time on the island is very quiet, I have been there some times and for the MF concert (not quiet). I do not think you can spend more 5 days, if you want really to be alone! Harriej is good that there is a youth hostel on the island. I have seen it and stayed there once. Its very good, not expensive. I cannot remember the name. I ask my friend the name and he thinks the same!! You must visit in Summer. All of Sweden is cold in winter, but the island is too cold.
You cross the island from Kalmar by a big bridge (I think about 7km long). Easy travel for car.
I know Kalmar, there is a good castle there too and the town is good to see. The only address I have for accommodation near Kalmar is south in Ljungbyholm www.kolbodagarden.com
I stay there also because my parents live now on the other side of Sweden, so I visit back sometimes. Its good and cheap.
Where you travelling from Speedo?

Did anyone notice that the Borgholm Castle (of what’s left of it) is much smaller in reality than on the video? It’s nice, but I thought it would be enormous and it isn’t. Nice island though and I also like Kalmar (They have a beautiful castle!)

Thanx a lot everyone! You’ve been a great help!!! Can’t wait to go there :)
@ Johanlarsson
I don’t know yet where I will be travelling from. I’ll probably take the bus from Kalmar and before that ... we’ll see!
harriej said on October 27, 2003 22:58:
@jetjet: Actually it was bigger than I thought it would be.
It is just a matter of how you look at it.
