per and marie live, voice quality

I think Per has a very nice voice, and that he can make very nice effects with his voice, sometimes funny, sometimes deep, I really like it.... but when he sings in concert it seems he makes no effort to make a nice voice, I am not demanding that he makes a perfect voice during all the concert, but at least to let us appreciate those nice effects we hear in the recorded version in LIVE
for example, I would like to hear a nice LIVE performance of Church of your Heart, the one they put in LIVE-ISM is the recorded version, and I downloaded one in Roxbytes where it also seems that his voice is not nice...... anyone has a well sung version of Church of your heart LIVE??
and in the case of Mary, it is the same thing, sometimes it is difficult to believe that she recorded the songs when you listen to her LIVE, in live version she sounds much older and her voice is not soft and nice like the recorded one.....
In general, I find a big difference in their voices between the recorded and LIVE version....... it seems Roxette first concerts had the best voice quality and then they became worse and worse......
If I am wrong, please recommend me some live performances, not necessarily a concert, where I can appreciate the nice voices they supposedly have....... and from where I can download them..........

I agree, Per’s voice live sometimes sux!!! I think he sometimes shouts too much... ;)

Would you like to hear the same “polished and fixed” CD singing during the concert? I wouldn’t. That’s why I think Gessle live is O.K.
Kiwein1 said on September 17, 2003 13:22:
I wouldn’t too, but the least I expect is a singer who has enough breath to sing a verse to the end and not stops singing because he needs to breathe. (-: Maybe that’s why they never performed HDYD live.
m-cvk said on September 17, 2003 13:58:
Actually, they have played HDYD live! And the version I have isn’t from TOTP but from a Roxette concert.
I like Marie’s and Per’s voices live. And people get older and so their voice changes too, even on studio albums. Besides that, you can’t really compare studioalbums and voices when it comes to live performances. Remember that Per’s voice was distorted on the HAND album...
The only voice that I really don’t like live is from Mats Persson (not MP), that voice really sux! It kind of “ruined” the Abbey Road version of YDUM!
Kiwein1 said on September 17, 2003 14:20:
Did they play the whole song live? I only know a version where they played JOYRIDE and Marie started singing the chorus of HDYD in the middle of Joyride. Well, better don’t mention the TOTP-performance - THAT was really embarrassing.
I agree with you all on the other point - no artist should sound live exactly as in the studio. I was on a Alanis-Morissette-concert some weeks ago and she sounds exactly like on her albums - it was really boring.

I like listening to Roxette Live. But I feel Per’s voice in record attract me much more in his live. But I like Marie’s voice both in record and live, even some changes have taken place in her voice during some many years.
About HDYD live, I’m uploading a Live Performance on http://cn.roxette.org/download/show.php?id=286, I think you also can find it on http://www.roxbytes.com.
Kiwein1 said on September 17, 2003 15:13:
Thx! That’s the TOTP performance that I meant.
It’s playback and Per sings LIVE over the playback..you can see it in the first verse..he’s mixing SCHOOL and HOUSE up. Marie’s part is live and Per is as I said singing LIVE over the playback - he has a layback. It’s awful!
m-cvk said on September 17, 2003 17:13:
The live version of HDYD I’m talking about is the whole song. They performed it during the second part of the Join the Joyride tour, in Stockholm 1992. Per announces the song - in Swedish- as : this is our new single!I got it from Roxbytes as well, if I’m not wrong.
The TOTP performance is not one of their best...:-)

@m-cvk: Got it! I’ve never heard that before, but I still have to say: he can’t sing that song live (-;

Marie Forever!! Great Live Voice!
Per live sux sometimes...(crush on you)
Emil__BG said on September 18, 2003 07:55:
Per live is better than most of the “singers” these days ,so he is good enough for me...
Mazarin tours was great..
i so much wanna to hear Per live again.. to hear ...
Hör du sången dom spelar på radion?
varje ord verkar handla om dej
;-)))))
m-cvk said on September 18, 2003 08:09:
@Kiwein1: Jep, I agree. He’s had better voice-performances :-)
Kiwein1 said on September 18, 2003 08:37:
Emil: Yeah, the Mazarin-tour was great! The songs he performed weren’t that fast, or kind of rap! I enjoyed the concerts very much. But there are just songs that he shouldn’t sing live - and he knows it (-:
Fireworks, How do you do are just two examples for that.
I love him singing Kung av sand, Inte tillsammans.., Flickan I en..., etc..
gyllene_tjej said on September 18, 2003 09:33:
on the other hand, there are songs that sound fine to my ears and Per decides not to play them live saying they sux :) Strange world, but hhey, didn’t you love Real sugar live?
Sascha said on September 18, 2003 09:42:
Yeah, Real Sugar live is far superiour to the album version!
Max-Tob said on September 18, 2003 09:46:
Marie is the best!
Per has improved a lot his live performances. I think he now sings better than ever...His voice sounds deeper because he was getting old and, because of a life time exercises, he can keep the tune and even improvise from time to time. I love his live performances... and I prefer not to remember his “Knocking on every...” during the Join the Joyride... Real Sugar sounds strange, but I love it!
So, on the whole, Per is better than ever - as a stage presence, as a singer and as a man. Great clothes and great shape. The best thing he done in the last few years was losing weight and improving voice.
gyllene_tjej said on September 18, 2003 10:04:
and as he doesn’t smoke on regular basis his voice won’t run the risk of getting worse so fast!
I’m absolutely green when it comes to music, but the Mazarin tour sounded great, I think, and I even like those ruined HDYD or Fireworks performances, just because they sound so... broken and funny :)
regn said on September 18, 2003 12:35:
Yeah its fair to regonize that Per has improve a lot his quality as a singer ;-) -& About Marie is just Normal that her voice has suffer changes She has been a singer since she was 6 years + She always has been who sing more songs on concerts So...
& I have to add that both of them haven’t a disciplinated Vocal technique of course Marie is in advantage but she smokes as an example...
jetjet said on September 18, 2003 15:12:
Well, I thought Per was singing better than ever on the RS tour. (I’m sorry, didn’t hear him live after that.) I was pleasantly surprised!
Though I’m a big Marie fan I thought she had some vocal problems on that tour. She sings much more songs during a tour of course. Anyway, it doesn’t matter if you can hear some cracks now and then. It makes it real.
My favorite vocal performance of Marie was during the Äntligen tour (Varberg)!
Jud (moderator) said on September 18, 2003 15:35:
yes of course Per has got a lot better :D the very old GT live performances suck!!! Now you can at least listen to him 2 songs in a row.. LOL no don’t kill me, just joking :D
It is true he is better now, I think before he shouted too much live, maybe because of what Kiwein says, that he had no breath to sing.
I also think Marie’s voice live is better the older she gets: deeper :) She is always great anyway :D

You can not expect that a singer sounds live exactly like on cd. I think it is disappointing if it’s so. Marie sounds live soooo much better than on the studio cds. She improvises a lot and that’s exactly what I love about her singing.
Well, Per sometimes doesn’t seem to have enough “breath” to sing a song as it should be - listen to FIREWORKS live, Stockholm 1994 - awful!
BTW darkblade: Who is Mary? (-;
