@TheRain... those are great songs too. I also like them all! 1989 was a good year for Madonna too.
Cry by Waterfront, I thought nobody remembered that song. I’ve got it recorded in a cassette, but I hardly listen to cassettes nowadays. Anyway, great song.

I was 5 by then,so,i just listened to “the smurfs” and stuff like that :p
TheRain1981 said on August 26, 2003 05:16:
Yeah, I was only 8 in 1989. It’s funny because I remember so many of these songs from my childhood from hearing them on the radio. It’s amazing how they can stick with you and when you hear them years later, you remember them and love them! That’s what happened to me with 80s music. “Cry” by Waterfront is such a great song. I remember really hearing this one from memory around 1991/1992 on a local AC station. My friend and I used to sing a long to it a lot. Brings back memories.
Roxlander said on August 26, 2003 14:37:
Well, I was 15 that year, and I always say my life really began that year, maybe because I started writing a diary and every event in my life since then is registered there :-)
I also began my own music chart, so every song I’ve ever liked is registered too, that’s why I remember them all.
I ’ve got charts of the 80’s songs too, and I love them. Great decade for music.

I was only 3. So I don´t know exactly which song is from which year.
But I want to add Fine Young cannibals - She drives me crazy.
I love this song! It was on a Columbo episode too.

It’s shocking to see how many great songs came out in the good old times. Many of these songs are classics now! The creative output suddenly went downhill since 1993. Look at the crappy tunes that dominate the charts now... :-(
kachina008 said on April 6, 2004 15:41:
yeah like that song on the radio: Fuck it (I dont want you back)...
GEEEEEZ :P
Roxlander said on April 7, 2004 23:05:
“Love & Rockets - So Alive”
Don’t you think the voice of this guy sounds a little like Per’s? And someone remembers the video? They had a Per’s similar hardcut too :-p
TheRain1981 said on April 9, 2004 05:27:
LOL. I just pick up the remastered 2-CD “Love And Rockets” album today. Yeah, his hairdo is similar to Per’s. Sounding like Per? Yeah, maybe in a “raspy” kind of way? I don’t remember the video though. I guess I was too young - 8 years old at the time. But I just love the song!
TheRain1981 said on April 9, 2004 05:30:
Roxlander, how about a 1988 Top Ten? Unless I missed it of course. Then perhaps a 1987, 86, etc.
Roxlander said on April 13, 2004 18:35:
@TheRain, I’ve got my own Top Tens from 1980 until today. Even when I was 6 years old in 1980, when I started to love music, indeed in 1989, I made my charts to those years. If you like I could post them here or we could talk about it by email, you tell me.

I’ll post more for the upcoming years shortly.

I see you have a lot of Rick Astley! Good pop music. I bought his “Greatest Hits” release last year actually! It’s so funny because I was getting ready to comment on Rick being on your list and “Never Gonna Give You Up” just started playing on my iTunes playlist (since I have it on shuffle) just as I was starting to reply!!!
Oh, and I love “Hazy Shade Of Winter” by the Bangles! I just got their “Essential” collection released by Sony music back in March! I completely forgot about the song and remembered hearing it many years ago!
As for the 90’s lists, sure. I’ll start working on them.
Roxlander said on May 6, 2004 22:35:
Yes, you’re right about Rick, I just loved him!! He was my first favourite singer, before Roxette came into my life. Actually thanks Rick I started to listen to music and to watch videos. He’s got an amazing voice, excelent music and “he’s got the look”.
Hey, it’s funny that you told me about you starting writing and a Rick’s song started to play because... it just happed to me right now. “A dream for us” started to play as I’m writing this. Rick is trying to tell us something ;-p
About 90’s favourite songs I’ll start next time.

Good ones! I remember the “Flintstones” tune! I almost forgot about that one. I’ll have to look for it on the Internet. I think the last time I heard that one was back in 1994 when it came out! The Tasmin Archer track I stumbled upon by accident when I bought a compilation CD, not knowing what song that was. Then I played it and it brought me back.
By the way, did I already mention that I hate limiting these lists to just 10 songs and ranking them? :p There’s so many EXCELLENT songs I’m leaving out just to squeeze in 10. :)

In America “Salvation” and “Anyone” weren’t singles, and I base my list in singles so I couldn’t include them in my top ten :-( Anyway, I didn’t know those songs were singles in Europe until years later.

“By the way, did I already mention that I hate limiting these lists to just 10 songs and ranking them? :p There’s so many EXCELLENT songs I’m leaving out just to squeeze in 10. :)”
I think the same my friend. Actually in time those top ten have changed, but being faithfull to my own story I posted them as they were in those exactly years :-p
My lists are long too, but if we write all songs we like from those years here I think all Roxfans would hate us ;-p
Hey, The Rain, would you be able to do a list with the best from all 90’s?
TheRain1981 said on May 21, 2004 09:24:
I love “Viva Forever” by the Spice Girls. It was actually never a single in the USA, but I think it’s probably their best song. I guess I forgot to include it on my list. :p
Nice lists, by the way.
As for a list for the best of the 90s? Sure. I’ll work on one. And for the 80s as well. My lists are based on how I would currently rank them at this moment, but my tastes vary so much, so it should be interesting.

I have my 80’s and 90’s lists done since a lot of years ago, but one day I want to make “updated lists” from those decades. I’ll post the original ones, but as you say tastes change, and probably now I’d include other songs.
Roxlander said on May 28, 2004 22:07:

LOL. Ranking these is a bit too hard, but let me see what I can come up with. Even since I last posted my favorites of the 80’s, my tastes have changed. :)

Interesting chart. But there’s a lot of song I don’t know. It’s definitive, if I was rich I’d buy all the music in the world ;-)
