Disturbing to say the least

This is for those who wonder why there is a sometimes violent reaction to those who want addresses of Mr. Gessle, Ms. Fredriksson and company. It was on Comcast for a little while as news:
Court Rules Against ’Star Trek’ Actress

By The Associated Press
SAN FRANCISCO - A federal appeals court rejected a “Star Trek” actress’ lawsuit
against dating service Matchmaker.com, ruling that a fake Internet profile
posted with the star’s comely image was not the company’s fault.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said Wednesday the personal profile
information published on Matchmaker’s service is solely up to the user’s
discretion and the company is immune from the lawsuit.
Christianne Carafano, who uses the stage name Chase Masterson, has appeared in
numerous films and television programs, most notably starring as the alien
character Leeta on the TV series “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.”
Carafano sued Matchmaker after learning that an online profile using her photos
had been created in 1999. The profile included her home address, phone number
and text stating she sought a dominant man with “a strong sexual appetite.”
Carafano received calls and e-mails from would-be suitors, who believed the
actress was looking for a date online. She said she felt unsafe in her home and
moved to hotels in Los Angeles for months with her son.
Matchmaker took the phony profile down, but only days after the initial request
from Carafano’s representatives.
“I am shocked, and I’m devastated,” Carafano told The Associated Press. “It’s
obvious that Matchmaker participated in the creation of the profile which
listed my home address in combination with blatant sexually explicit lies.”
“As a result, I received a note from someone threatening to brutally stalk and
rape me and kill my son,” she said. “Matchmaker was not a passive vehicle.”
Matchmaker is operated by Terra Lycos. Calls seeking comment from the company
were not immediately returned.

**As a note to the story, I have met this woman. She’s a wonderful lady and a fantastic actress. It deeply disturbed me and saddened me that such a thing happened. This is also why a lot of actors / actresses / musicians won’t personalise stuff (ie: To David, Best Wishes, Tom Jones). Because they are afraid of those that would assume that this was an invitation to invade privacy etc. Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi of Star Trek: The Next Generation fame) won’t personalise for just that reason. So, these are my thoughts, and I thought I would share**

I’ve noticed that no one has commented about Matchmaker.com’s actions.
Here’s a question to all:
What do you think should be or should have been done?
Personally, I think that Matchmaker.com SHOULD be held partly responsible for this. I think that when stuff like this is submitted, someone should go through and look at submissions. So instead of an immediate posting, have it posted 72 - 96 hours AFTER submission.
Thoughts?

Click on the Photo Gallery Link. One of my tattoos is the Crest of the Klingon Empire.
I’m the “First Officer” of the IKV L’Chon, a local Klingon ship that does community service projects here in the valley. At a recent convention, we raised $400+ dollars for a local junior high and plan on giving the money to them in an assembly when school starts back up. I was intereviewed and it made the local paper for the convention:

In fact, I posted the link once before, but no one seemed to give a sh*t until now *chuckles*. I’m the one in the article talking about why it is I like the Klingons. They are an honourable race (most of the time. There’s a few exceptions), they’re physical, and proud of who they are, and they don’t care much what others think of them. That, and they have a fantastic language that is actually taught in several Universities and Colleges here in the US.
