What is the biggest marketing campaign you have EVER seen for a band? (Doesn’t matter if the band was not Roxette, in fact I’ll be shocked if you answer Roxette)
Mine?
Yea...Avril has tons of merchandise at her site.
Sweatshirts, wallets, tatoos (!!!), and so on.
Her debut album has (at least) 4 different versions.
2 DVD’s singles, an upcoming full-lenght DVD, airplay almost ridiculous, MTV showcases, 2-3 concerts at every place she goes to, an european and australian tour, a promotion tour that took her everywhere, and wow...and upcoming album recorded well, everywhere...Sweden included.
That’s promotion!!!!

Hey June, well, of course Avril has tons of promo and merch, she’s basically bubblegum, and marketing is a BIG factor there.
As for Robbie, they try and break him in the US, and aside from a decent cult following, the guy can’t get arrested here. I’m a big fan of his music, definitely, but his music basically didn’t click with the mass American public, sorry to say.
Then again, ANY artist who has huge campaigns I’m usually NOT a fan of, where the marketing is more important than the music itself. This marketing is a HUGE turnoff for me, always has been.

I absolutely loved the Spice Girls when they were together and always listened to their cd while at work. When I left that job, part of my going-away gift from my co-workers was a ton of cheesy Spice Girl merchandise, which I still have today. I normally do not like all of the merchandise but must admit I love going to board meetings with my SG pencil and notepad!!
Sorry - off topic - just had to confess
