Hello from Australia.

Hello from Australia.
I am a big big Roxette fan, since Look Sharp! came out. I bought it on cassette, I was 12 yrs old.
I’ve followed their career pretty closely, but it is very hard here in Australia, as there isn’t much news on them, and it’s hard to get CDs and videos.
I just bought “the Pop Hits” a couple of weeks ago, and it’s great. I wish it had “listen to your heart” on it tho. I hope Marie gets full recovered in the year, and we can see them tour Australia.

Mark.

Listen To Your Heart is on The Ballad Hits released last year! :p

Hey, Mark. welcome! Don’t forget to visit the Off Topic forum. It’s fun!!!

:)

Hey thanks guys.
David, I am from Perth.
Glad to see there are a few Aussie Roxette fans on here. As you know, there’s bugger all promotion for Roxette in Australia.
Still managed to get all their CD’s DVD’s etc tho, via the net!

’Sup Mark!!! I’m from New York, and a big Rox fan since the “Look Sharp” days. Here in the States, it is hard to find Rox info, so I rely on these boards. No one here knows them anymore.

You’re from Perth, eh?? A Westerner, on the Indian Ocean!! I hear your city is really nice, and big, and modern; it has grown immensely, is that true?? Um, just curious, back in ’84, ’85, I knew this kid in my highschool who was an exchange student from Perth, his name was Paul Kuperman, maybe you know him?? Probably not, but hey, it’s worth a shot to ask, right??

MrMG I’m in Perth too :P 1st time I’ve heard of any other Roxette fans on here saying they are also in Perth or in W.A. Nice to hear.
Reading your story, its similar to mine. I also first bought Look Sharp! on cassette and became a big fan. I wore that tape out :)

“Look Sharp” was among the very first CDs I ever bought!!! I just graduated from cassettes and VINYL!!! Vinyl is still cool, but from a practicallity point of view, records are a pain in the you-know-what to carry around...

Awesome to be getting these replies!

Powerpoplarry : hey man ... nah I don’t know that dude, but yeah, you’re right - Perth is getting pretty big now, growing by the year, always another building goin up!! But we’re a few year off challenging the BIG APPLE size wise :)

Imazombie : awesome, another Perthite!
RnB and HipHop I’ve grown up with, but Roxette were always my first love in music. Most music I like is either hard to get, or impossible to get in WA, so I end up ordering it from the states!

Yeah - Look Sharp! I wore out my tape too, pretty much re-did the entire Roxette discography on CD and DVD now - getting there :)

you are from Perth? I have an article about Roxette live in Perth in Indonesian. It was covered by indonesian journalist. I think it’s around January 1995, I didn’t really remember.
I wonder, if you were in that concert too?

Hey man, oh well, it was worth a shot getting back in touch with Paul, but I should hope your city is getting big, cuz you’re like 3000 miles from Sydney + Melbourne, almost isolated, and you’re not going to like hop a plane to travel cross country just to go to the city, right?? LOL!!! You have the city right there at home...but yeah, it’ll be years before you touch the Big Apple, LOL!!

Besides Perth, what else is there in WA?? Your record stores all suck, eh?? Ordering your stuff from us?? Funny, I most always buy imports, from Europe, Australia, the UK and Japan. As for US releases, either they are cheap promos, or low-priced new-releases at Best Buy, Target or Circuit City. Sooo Mark, you’re mostly into R+B you said?? Besides Roxette?? That’s cool.

Wow Larry you get cooler by day :D
Funny you said they don’t have much Roxette stuff in Australia! I think Canada is even worse. I asked for ON Single and they told me they’d have to order it from Australia! HAH! What a joke! I hate North America music-wise! AKH!
I’ve been a Roxette fan since oooo 1988 ish. Roxette is my past, my present and will always play a part in my life. Yey!
QUEEN ROCKS! YEY!

Belgium says : Hi and welcome

Wendy says : Hi and welcome,i hope you enjoy your stay!!!!!!!!! many kisses :p

Yeah it’s very hard to get anything decent “off the shelf” in Australia, unless it’s current chart music.

I’m still a very big fan of SNOW (Informer) and apart from his first 2 CDs, everything else I’ve had to order direct from the USA. It’s not that bad tho, and the prices aint bad!

Thanks for the welcome Wendy & Belgium!!

As for Perth, yeah, it’s far from the East Coast, but we all do things betta on the West Side :)

Hey Powepoplarry - my music is mostly stuff like Joe, Dru Hill, 2Pac, LL Cool J, Ginuwine etc..but I do love Roxette to relax my mind, and for something different!
I usually order from HMV.ca because it’s just so hard to get thing in Australia. Japan has a lot too, but it’s harder to get CDs in a reasonable time!!

Perth has a decent collection of NiteClubs and bars, but I’m getting to the age where I am getting sick of that shit!

then you must be 85 years old now :) hey cool! you must be the oldest Roxette fan!!! :)

hhaha nah, I’m only 26. I just get sick of going to clubs every weekend!

I remember The Look came out in the summer of 1989 as I was starting High School, and it was the main song going around for ages. Then after the buzz of Look Sharp! faded, Roxette’s appeal for most people dissapeared. It’s a shame I think, and I blame the promo and publicists for that.

Hey Damineh, ya think so?? Am I getting cooler by the day?? ;-) Aww shucks, I’m just being me, LOL!! You’re pretty damn cool yourself!! I think we should talk on a regular basis, dontcha think?? ;-) Email me if you want, and I have a SLIGHT hunch you’re quite pretty too... ;-)

Weird, Mark, that you don’t have much good stuff down your way. See, here in the US, the best-priced imports all come from Australia!! They usually include the bonus tracks featured on Japanese imports, but priced much cheaper than even British ones, sometimes as little as US prices, like a full-priced item here, aka $19.99 US!! Plus, there are some Australian artists I either collect or am interested in trying. Darren Hayes is in the former category, Holly Valance is in the latter. I see her imports all the time but don’t know her music, is she any good Mark?? Oh, and my fave Aussie female singer is one TINA ARENA; I’m pretty hardcore in collecting her stuff, here she is mostly known as a songwriter, but I think her singing is just as glorious. “Just Me”, her most recent album, is just awesome!!!!!! Rox fans would love it too...

Yep Damineh, 90% of North American music blows the big one, LOL!! It is true, the best stuff here and in Canada falls below the radar or doesn’t get promoted. Oh, I saw the ON single at Record Runner in NYC, but I wanted to find TPH first, and mayebe the ON single cheaper (they charged $11.99 US!!!), but I STILL haven’t seen it anywhere else, so I may not have a choice... But yes, I’ve been a fan as long as you, and will always be one, forever loyal...Queen is pretty damn cool too, and you’d love Jellyfish, as some of their stuff is very much like 70s Queen.

Mark, I’ll tell you this again and again, Wendy is the shit, the bomb, she rules!!! ;-)

As for your faves, I see Japanese SNOW CDs at Book-Off for dirt-cheap, like 3 bucks a pop!! The dude is Canadian, ya know.

The West Side is better, eh?? When I am down there, I’ll make sure I visit...hell, Midnight Oil did a song about your area, “Blue Sky Mine”, my fave Aussie band ever!! Some R+B stuff is cool, but I don’t buy it regularly. If I do, it’s the alt-soul stuff like maybe Erika Badu, Macy Gray, Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, Canadian dude Remy Shand, Kenna, Stew, Donnie, some Neptunes stuff like N.E.R.D., Ms Dynamite. I went to highschool with Mariah Carey, and I think Ashanti is OK. Your picks are fine, no one terrible. I dig old school hiphop as well, it’s fun.

Um, you order from HMV.ca?? Canadian again, LOL!! I order from them occasionally too...

Peerth sounds like a cool city!!! Good nightlife is always good, yet I prefer to go to clubs where bands play, rather than niteclubs for dancing, as if you meet a girl, you can’t hear each other talk, ya know?? If I wanted to go to a place to meet a girl and talk, it would be one of those lounge-type of places, where it’s a cool mellow vibe, you can talk and just chill...

As for Roxette, here yes, “Look Sharp” took off and did well, but IMHBL and then the “Joyride” album did even better!! After the oversaturation of the many hits off that CD, the US fallout hit...

Hell yeah, I have to get everything that’s not mainstream music online.

I’ve ordered all my SNOW cuts from Canada, and got a few bootleg tracks of Informer sent up from North York Toronto etc.. I dont mind paying a few extra $$ to get em from OS cos in Australia you just cant get it. The music market on the West Coast aint that big (like over east - with 4x the people) so unless it’s chartin’ then it aint the bizz.

SNOW is like Roxette in many ways to those who keep faith with artists - he blew up in 92-93 then promotion died down, the hype went south and people forgot he was still makin music n all.

He does a few good calabos and produces with many big name producers, but he wont blow up again over here - NO PROMOTION! He was sposed to do a movie with Q-Tip n MaryJBlige *Prison Song* which dived too :( *sigh*

Even now I am unable to get Ginuwine’s new CD - The Senior, even from Sanity.com.au so I’ll be headin back to HMV.ca to get it :(

As for clubs n bars - thats my shit..never been into live bands, but I do agree with the bit about meeting chicas...you can’t line up a honey n talk to em in a club ... ah well!

As for the ladies you mentioned on the board - I’ll take your word chico :)

hi

Per loves Perth, he got drunk over there i think

Yea, thats right :) I have an article from a local newspaper, they all went to Northbridge (Per, Marie, the band, EMI people), where all the clubs and cafes are. I’ll try and find it..

Yes, I’ve been drunk in many places around Perth!
hahaha
