Why has Roxette's sales slowing getting smaller

ive got a question , why do you think roxette’s sales are getting less and less ?

i remember when i was in KOS when WICF came out in europe , and they was this middle aged women who looked like a co-owner who played the song over and over again, i thought it was so fuuny. but she must of really liked the song. Now i think alot of people must have loved the song for it to be one of the most played songs on europe radio.
and then it came, Its simple the songs are not as good as they used to be. lyrics are crap , little album filler songs , no emotion in the songs ect.

but please dont shoot me, my faves are new songs aswell people, im just trying to find a reason why there sales are dropping. i mean RS album was bad compared to all there other albums
, my fave song is TCOTH and there is about 3 more on there i love, but i have to say i was supprised how dull and easy the album was, thought it was gonna be there best , fab art work, and singles , M&T&H should of been second single.

ps MARIE I CANT WAIT FOR YOUR NEW ALBUM WITH YOUR AMAZING SOULFUL VOICE.

simple:

1) a lot of fans forgot all about them during the long break from 95-99

2) promotion

3) Image is everything in this day and age, the music comes a poor second. Marie and Per aren’t young, fresh and oh so cute like they were (to a certain extent) back a decade+ ago.
Maybe if one or both of them get a part in an Australian soapie things would change... ;)

the 2 most recent albums are all compilations. a lot of people already have their old songs

I think Zargo nailed it. It’s really that simple. Things have changed. The current music industry sucks (for the most part).

well, it’s not the music industry... it’s rather the horrible taste of today’s teenagers that sucks. How come otherwise that such shitty music is so successful nowadays!?

i’m agree with what you all said..
now,a little bit out of subject..
“... it’s rather the horrible taste of today’s teenagers that sucks”
it’s not a main reason ,but you’re right..on the other hand i guess that’s all older generation thinks about yonger one...:-)) the difference is that today even the 6-7 old ppl have the power to influence on music indun.. and they don’t care about it..everything is a game..and their infatuation to an artist is very short and inconsistency ...
.. there was are show on our music TV called “interactive”...when show was played in the hours when students are free–there was 1 and only winner of all competitions-raper who talks dirty words and has influence on 8-14 old students...
When the show was move in the early hours when the ppl from different ages are on net and on the phones... this raper wasn’t so good anymore:-)))))
but meanwhile he sold more than any other artist ;-(
it’s not just that show–all VJ makes him looks like a God....
cos i not just a music–it’s a souvenirs,clothes with his mark... businesssssss...

it not just on our TV–watched some of the shows on MTV and other TV.. nobody really talking about “music”..
Try to count how many from “famous” artist make music by theirselfs...

Tough question this one...

Promotion is a main key. But I’m not too sure about the teenagers’ taste / fresh looks point. There’s got to be something else. A band like Depeche Mode (whether you like them or not, which is not the point here) have been around for like 20 years and they’re still pretty much charting at high places. Same for Pet Shop Boys and other bands who started in the early/mid 80s. Their success hasn’t dropped as dramatically as Roxette (at least in UK). Lots of people are going to reply that “The Ballad Hits” made 11 but see how surprised we were when it happened ! Plus it took a special context (Valentine’s day) to help achieving this (see how the album dropped right after that). And let’s not talk about
singles cause it’s even worst : no Top 75 single since ... “Stars” right ?

PS : I like “Wish I Could Fly” better now than I did when it came out, actually...

teenagers can’t like roxette if they’re not exposed to them... the media tells us what we should like

I think the lack of promotion and tours are the main reason.

blame MTV.

zargo very true, we have to listern to what we hear around us by the media

It’s not only Roxette though. I mean age isn’t that important as Rolling Stones are still rocking and so are many other bands.
There was this program on TV on Classical Music saying that Minnesota and Florida Symphony Orchestras were shut down due to bankruptcy. They were saying that it’s very sad that the new generation is filling their brain with non-sense and garbage.
I agree with the lack of promotion though. I don’t think many people go into the CD store, go through every single CD that’s out there to pick one. I usually go in there knowing what I want, grab it, pay for it and get out. No time to go through all that’s out there. So yeah if they show something on TV to motivate people into checking the CD out, why not!? They’ll try it.

Zargo is right. It’s all about promotion. Look at all the casting shows. “Starmania”, “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”.... They are all number one in their countries, couse promotion is unbelievable. Roxette can be only bought by people who know them. And most 12-17 yr old teens do not know them. Form where should they? Roxettes singles and album are ONLY bought by REAL fans - and so it’s a great thing they still have running...

Let LMS or ON be performed by another artist and they’ll both hit the charts. As a songwriter Per is still great but how would u promote him or them nowadays to make ROX interessting for young people?

And: In my opinion Per isn’t interested in having the great chart-success anymore. He seems to me to be one of the last real musicians and he is doing it cause it’s in his blood. Cause I can’t imagine he really wants the big media presence anymore. And money shouldn’t be the problem anymore.

I’m afraid withing the next 5 yr Rox won’t exist anymore but Per and Marie will still be successful in Sweden.

mariok , i do hope your wrong, but if roxette came to UK for promotion like wicf , they would haVE A a good chart position like they did then. they did every programe.

Zargo said it all!

I think it’s got to do with the rise of commerical rap.
Back in the mid 80s and early 90s, rap music was not commercial, was never played on radio or tv, and was hard to find/buy unless you could get bootleg / black market releases. So music like Roxette’s which was funky, youthfull and energetic, and without any negative vibe flourished. They were young, good looking, and good singers, so they were extremely popular. Now with young artists like Nelly & Ja Rule everywhere you look, and boy & girl bands springing up every week, it’s hard for established groups to keep getting recognition. It’s hard when the PR machine has slowed right down too, and especially here in Australia, where Roxette have not been heard of or publicised for the last 10 years.

It’s sad that such a great group can fall into obscurity like this :(

the problem to-day is that you have such a lot of different music to choose from and generations change so quickly that some of the old groups cant keep up but it does have a lot to do with publicity and media and i for one think that there is a lot of garbage on the air waves but i will allways love roxette no matter what
