THE EURO

Okay he is a question. As we all live in different country’s around Europe and of course I welcome comments from people outside of Europe as well....
“What do you think of the Euro?”
For us in the UK we don’t use it yet but our govenment will announce on June 9th if we are to join in with the new currency..... (There goes that date again June 9th Roxette release TPH in the UK as well!!)
I am happy to join in with the use of a single currency but just wondering how people in Europe who have been using it for over a year feel about it? Spain, France & Germany are just some of the countries in question. Was it hard to get use to it?
Of course for me I have not had the pleasure in using it yet as for the past 2 years have only been on holiday to Sweden where of course they are still using the SEK.
As you know a lot of British people holiday in Spain, Greece etc for the summer but I have not been to Spain for 2 years now but would like to take a cheap week away to see what it is like using Euro’s.........
So c’mon guys give us your comments on it as the currency of your country?

to be honest i think it kinda represents a move forward to bringing europe toegther osmething i think earmarks peopels changes in attitude towards solidarity and the necessity to draw borders and be incredibly individual..but at the same point that loss of indviduality is kinda bothersome. In terms of convience yeah it help foreign travelers alot ..but who said the wrold had to cater to foreign interests?

I think THE EURO is one of the best things had happened in Europe during the last years. Of course it doesn’t takes you a long time to get used to it. Only really old people have some problems, but they can be solved with the help of the people.
As each country has “its” EURO is really nice watching them being mixed as time passes by.

I hope one day Europe will be as one, despite the large number of different cultures and communities.

I think the EURO is the bad thing what can happend in Europe.
Because I´m from Germany, and if I 2001 go 20 german marks out to have fun was that enough money, but now with the EURO, if I go with 10EUR (is the same worth how 20 german marks) than you can nothing do with that, you need 20EUR the double from 2001. All would more expensive since the EURO. The EURO suxx and I want to have my german marks back. But this want never happends :(
The EURO make all broken-down and is a bad thing.
Ferdan said on May 16, 2003 19:23:
Well, according to underground sayings..... the Euro is a treath to the US dollar...., so that’s a good thing.....
LittleGirl78 said on May 16, 2003 19:31:
only one question, who from the ones who think the EURO is a good thing have the EURO in they country?
I´m very interested about this.
Because I have the EURO and I´m against the EURO and think that a bad thing.

I think it’s the best thing ever. When you travel it’s lots easier, it saves you a loooooot of numbers from stupid old pesetas and it’s nice coloured. The prices increased, but well, that happened also with the national currencies EVERY YEAR... the point is that some people now take the euro to blame... well, the can go on fooling themselves.
LittleGirl78 said on May 16, 2003 21:01:
hmmmmmm............travel easier? But I have love it to change my money and have in the holiday foreign money in my moneybag.
And the other thing is that I was with the german marks satisfied, the money was not too much worth and not too less worth. And the money was what worth. But the EUR make all foodstuffs and other impotant things more expensive and make in germany nothing sence. And nobody have ask me about the EURO, I think if they had to ask the folk then we haven´t the EURO now.
Maybe in the other countries operatest the EURO-Thing but in germany I can´t find any positive thing, only negative.
maybe one positive thing is the traveling though europe without change money, but if then are 4 negative things then isn´t it a positive thing.

I know I am an outsider but from what I understand, the Euro had to create a period of adjustment where some countries would experience price increases. When every country had its own currency, the prices of certain goods would be different to reflect the different value of their currency - countries with stronger currencies tend to have lower prices. But when everyone moved to the same currency, everyone had to also equalize their prices. Thus, the countries that had lower prices (but stronger currencies) had to bump up their prices while countries with higher prices had to drop their prices to create the balance.
Example - a pair of shoes in the U.S. may cost $70 (U.S $) but would cost about $100 (Canadian $) in Canada. However, the Canadian dollar is only worth about 73% of the US dollar, so it tends to balance out - if an American purchased the shoes in Canada, he would pay $100 canadian dollars, which is about $73 in US dollars. If the Canadian dollar were suddenly equal to the US dollar, Canadian prices would drop and US prices would rise until those shoes cost the same in both countries (probably about $87).
Even though it seems to be convenient to have a similar currency, it just seems to take away a bit of the individuality and uniqueness of each country. As long as everyone in Europe remains friendly towards Canadian tourists, I am happy....

littlegirl...
yeh, it looks bad from what you say...
but if the Euro establishes itself as a strong currency worldwide, you’re gonna have really big benefits.... bigger than you think.

I hope the UK will accept the Euro as I think it will be great. Does anyone know if Sweden plan to join the Euro or are they sticking with the SEK??
powerpoplarry said on May 17, 2003 06:49:
I agree, I think it’s a good thing, but yes, sometimes, countries need to adjust and people just have to get used to it, cuz it reflects the different countries’ currency value, whether prices have to go up or down. Plus yeah, easier to travel all across Europe...
clerk said on May 17, 2003 10:55:
Can’t get used to it...prices went up, big time!
Yeah everything looks cheap, but that’s a real illusion! One europe?...Sounds good, but I think it only works on paper...
LittleGirl78 said on May 17, 2003 16:22:
OK. you all see only the positive thing from the Euro, and maybe anytime the Euro is a good thing, but now isn´t it, because all is more expensive and we have less money, and that is so “Money governs the world” and so is the Euro a bad thing in this time, but maybe anytime is that a good thing also in my option, but sorry, not yet where I see so many bad things.
wendy said on May 17, 2003 18:39:
I thinks it’s a good thing,i’m used already, but,i wish we had “Manneke pis” on it,instead of our king :D
harriej said on May 18, 2003 09:58:
It looks like if everything has become more expensive due to the Euro, so that is a bad thing.
The only positive thing is, that you do not need to exchange to other money, when you go to an other country (if that country is part of the EURO-countrys) and prices can be compared easy.
Santi said on May 18, 2003 10:01:
Didn’t in The Netherlands prices raise at the end of the year? :O Cuz in Spain they always raised when we had pesetas.
pearls_of_passion said on May 18, 2003 11:33:
Well, the EURO has advantages and one disadvantage: the advantages are of course that people can use the same currency in many countries and it is easier for companies (trade, etc). The disadvantage is that things are going to be more expensive. I remember when Germany introduced the Euro, prices increased. So the government should take more care about this, I think.

IS IT REAL THAT PRICES ALWAYS STAYED THE SAME IN YOUR NATIONAL CURRENCIES? :| :O
animalkingdom said on May 18, 2003 15:56:
Pretty much, yea..
We still have these weird offers like 3 for 1,68 (that used to be 10 FIM)..

No the prices was not always the same, but the difference was not so big.
Before we get the EURO was a prise rise maybe 1 german mark, what is 50cent, maybe if that was much then 5 german marks waht are 2,50EUR.
But the prise rise with the EUR is almost the doubble. The prise rise are by many things between 2 and 5 EUR, so much prise rise was before the EUR not. ;-)
What before cost 1 german marks cost now 1 EURO and the calculation is the double.

As a foreigner, the Euro saves us time when traveling as we do not need to spend time exchanging money into the different currencies. However, I liked the different currencies that were unique to each country.
I think the UK is quite different since the British pound is one of the major currencies used on the international stock exchanges and money markets(like the US dollar), so changing to the Euro may have larger implications for you........
