TPH vs. TBH in Canada

Well some might not care how Roxette is doing in Canada but hey I will share my thoughts anyway ļ.
As some of you have read in my postings in the past, HMV, which is big here in Vancouver, had 1 copy of TBH in one of their biggest locations. I passed by the store every day to see when they¡¦d bring in TBH which I¡¦d bought via internet before it was released here. They finally received it but guess how many? ¡§1¡¨. I would go into HMV every day to check whether they¡¦d give out promo items just like when they were giving out WICF single with the purchase of HAND. I got mine for free though as no one was buying HAND. So yeah 1 copy of TBH at HMV! I put a mark on the CD to track it ƒº. Same CD sitting on the shelf for long.
So I ordered my TPH via Internet again as I knew EMI Canada is always late. I asked HMV dudes when they were going to get the CD in and they looked at me in wonder smiling at the name ¡§Roxette¡¨.
I gave up on demanding TPH for a while and didn¡¦t even bother going to HMV to track down my marked TBH. Oh by the way, I have a life. I don¡¦t walk around in the streets marking CDs ƒº. Last week, I was at the mall and thought oh lets see whether they¡¦ve got TPH yet. I went in thinking oh well they probably have 1 broken-cover TPH just like their copy of broken-cover CBB and marked TBH. Guess how many of TPH they had? More than 20. They had a whole bunch. I asked whether they¡¦d bring in ON as well. Negative. No singles in North America anymore.
I dunno what my point is by giving my story out but I am hopeful that EMI Canada would do better in promoting TPH than they did for TBH. I don¡¦t watch TV so I have no idea whether they show Roxette videos. I know that MTV Canada doesn¡¦t show Roxette. All they show is Avril and Canadian artists. Yeah so if you are from Canada, let me know on that.

I live in Northern BC (about 22 hours north of you) and I haven’t found anything Roxette since their Sing to the Chorus greatest hits album, and I was lucky to find that. The last album I bought I had to order through Amazon (Room Service) or I wouldn’t ahve that since it was never released here. If you find a decent shop that brings in more than 1 copy on request, do let me know cause there’s a LOT of albums I currently don’t have (anything after the last one I bought, which is at least 3 that I know of) that I would like to get my hands on.

I was able to find both TBH and TPH at Music World but the price was unbelievable! $25.99 plus tax! That works out to almost $30, a little bit expensive but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. To top it all off, I still need to order a copy from somewhere on the Internet because the Canadian edition doesn’t have the bonus EP.

Actually neither of TBH and TPH have the EPs. TPH was priced at $19.99CDN and TBH at $25.99CDN at HMV. Virgin is the most expensive one to buy CDs from so I usually don’t bother going downtown Vancouver for CDs I can get at HMV.
Wow Don’t Bore Us Get To The Chorus album you talked about... As I’ve mentioned in other threads, HMV has had a broken-cover DBUGTTC album for quite a long time now. Before getting TBH and TPH, that album was the only one sitting there for years I believe. And I guess I was the only one buying HAND and Room Service. I remember I got my HAND CD at 9:00 in the morning when HMV opened. They opened the box, gave me the CD and closed the box and I assume they never put it out there. Sad eh?
You can probably order the CDs through HMV. But try to find other ways to order them first. Someone suggested ordering TPH via some site once which was totally official. The price was in pounds but something about 8 pounds and no shipping charge. But guess how much they charged my credit card? 46 dollars! So yeah be careful. They’ve got deals but none of them are true. HMV would be your best bet.
Where in Northern BC do you live by the way if you don’t mind me asking?

Fort Nelson. Wayyy up there :)

Wow, I didn’t even think HAND was released in Canada. It never made it’s way up here, that I’m sure of. One of my former bosses brings in CD’s, I’ll talk to him and see if he can bring that one in for me, as well as TPH and TBH.

Yeah it was released in Canada but many many months later than the rest of the world :).
Fort Nelson, eh? Nice. Is summer in yet?? It’s nice and sunny here. Victoria day is coming. I am so excited for the long weekend :D

If 30+ degree weather is summer, than yeah. :) I don’t doubt for a second the rest of Canada got these.. but I live in the boonies and all they ever bring in is top 40 stuff.

Oh actually I asked for ON single and they told me no store in Canada ever ordered it and that they would have to order it from Germany. Also, I asked for TPH the limited edition and they said they would have to order it from Australia. Thanks Lord I ordered it through the internet.

It’s around 10-13 in here and I call it summer. At least it’s not raining!

I picked up TPH’s at Sunrise Records in Brampton, Ontario for $16.99 + tax on the day it was supposedly released (April 29th).
It was the only copy they had though. I also picked up TBH’s at the same store the day it was released. That too was the only copy they had that day.
At least we did get it in Canada although limited. Unfortunately we are forced to listen to too much Canadian bred music here whether it’s good or not. Unless Per and Marie move to Canada and call themselves Canadians, they won’t get much of a chance to make it big here again.

Heh DavidRox true true. 5 years ago Americans could find their way in as well but these days it’s all about Avril and Shania and etc. Although I can say Avril has gotten pretty big in Europe as well. Brian May has taken pictures with her and has put them in his site!!! I myself don’t like the North American’s taste in music in general. It’s too much to handle at times.
Yeah they still have the TBH ordered album in here haha. ONE COPY!

@David: You’re in Brampton? Cool! My girlfriend’s brother and his family live there! I’m down the road, in Kitchener...

I got my copy on the correct release date (April 22nd) at HMV but I paid $19.99 for it! I wish I’d waited because our Sunrise had it for $12.99!!! And two copies! This was the same store that had a dozen copies of “TBH”... somebody must like Roxette there!

I was in Kitchener in in February, cold as 1/hell!

@ DavidRox - I agree with your comments about Canadian music - that whole Can-Con rule is a joke - they are forced to play a certain amount of Canadian music, so we either hear Shania/Celine/Avril over and over and over and over or we listen to someone who is “less-than talented”. I wish they would let the public decide who is popular and who is not. If someone is good, people will request it. If a group/person is not good, people will not request it and that person/group needs to work on getting better.

Sorry - I was ranting.

I love Brampton - I think it is beautiful - especially in the summer..... are you following the Senators?

I was hoping for an all-Canadian final between Senators and Canucks. But hey we lost :(. I hope Senators win it all!

I’m cheering for Anaheim. They put Detroit out so they’ve got a new fan here.

It’s warming up in Brampton. 18C. Now if we could get rid of all this rain. Per likes to sing songs with rain in the title or the song itself. He should come visit Brampton.

Go Sens! Go Ducks! Die Minnesota!

It was pouring rain for 3 days in here, non-stop. The sun is out finally. My girlfriends and I are going to Victoria tomorrow (Sunday) for Victoria Day. It’s gonna be fun.

Great to see a few other Canadian Rox freaks here! It’s great that we have TPH and TBH released in Canada, but it is really unfortunate that nothing happened with either of these album. Doesn’t surprise me though...blame it on EMI. I found TBH in my area about a week before its official Canadian release back in November. Since TPH was not going to be released with the EP, I ended up ordering from Sweden, rather than waiting an extra month for a copy without the EP. Actually, I haven’t even been to my local Sam the Record Man to see if they have even received a copy of TPH. I really miss those days of seeing (and hearing) Rox in Canada! The last time they were here was to promote DBUGTTC back in ’95 (in Toronto and Montreal). Those were the days.....
