Where's the footballers topic?
tinytim said on May 9, 2003 17:34:
Hey, I wanted to go on with that...
Vixzie...Manchester won again!!! HAHAHAHA!!!
And Ronaldo scored one more time...
My team lost to damn River Plate...but it’s OK...they will play the 2nd match here in Brazil...and they’ll learn...HOHOHOHAHAHAHABWHAHAHAHA!!!!
tinytim said on May 9, 2003 21:19:
Hmmm...Santi...I tend to believe you’re a Barcelona fan...but Ronaldo isn’t injured forever...hehehehe...
I used to support Barcelona when Ronaldo played there...I’m more like a Ronaldo F.C. I actually like more Barça than Madrid, but I have to admit that Real has a fantastic team this year...and I believe they didn’t play their whole potential yet...
Santi said on May 9, 2003 21:28:
I’m not a Barcelona fan, I don’t give a s*** for them losers :D
I’m a fan of Real Sociedad, this year and the past one too, when they were almost in the second division... I was born in San Sebastián and I’m proud of the team of my city :)
harriej said on May 10, 2003 10:09:
Santi:
Is there still a chance Sociedad becomes champion?
That would be cool: Not a big team, like Real Madrid or Barcelona.
In Spain I like Real Sociedad (Westerveld) and Deportivo La Coruna (Makaay) the most.
Santi said on May 10, 2003 10:15:
Yeah, there are 6 matches to be played and Real Sociedad and Deportivo are both just 1 point behind Real Madrid!
In case of having the same points in the end, it gets a bit complicated!
- If Deportivo and Real Madrid end up on top Real Madrid wins.
- If Deportivo and Real Sociedad end up on top Deportivo wins.
- If Real Madrid and Real Sociedad end up on top Real Sociedad wins.
- But, if the three of them end up on top with the same points, REAL SOCIEDAD WINS!!! :D
tinytim said on May 11, 2003 22:28:
Hmmm...btw, awful result for Real this weekend...
This Deportivo Huelva it’s kinda weak team, isn’t it?
My team, Corinthians, won 3-0 without five main players...yeah!
Now, they’re gonna play round 2 against River Plate, from Argentina...they lost in the last minutes for 2-1, a match that was already won for 1-0...thanks to our left defender, that agressed their main midfield player and it was sent off...thanks, Kleber...
Ferdan said on May 12, 2003 11:22:
umm i have mixed feelings when River plays against brasilian teams :)))
Santi said on May 12, 2003 14:22:
Yeah, well, the Recreativo de Huelva is new in the first division and is fighting to stay there one year more, though actually is the oldest football team in Spain.
But... great Real Sociedad, they won Mallorca that last week had won Real Madrid 1-5! We won them 1-3, so now Real Madrid is 3rd and Real Sociedad and Deportivo are in the first position. This looks kinda good for my fav team to win the league... 20 years after the previous time :D
P-p-p-pelle said on May 15, 2003 07:10:
I enjoyed yesterday’s game. Real Madrid lost. Football has shown again that the most expensive team is not the best.
tinytim said on May 15, 2003 14:15:
Why everybody always hate the teams that get more money to buy players?
Real Madrid it’s a big team, c’mon, let’s admire football, not envy...
But, P-p-pelle, I got my chin in the ground when I saw that Effenberg history...he released a book telling all his shamelessnesses and the title is “I beated all them”? He’s looking quite wild in the cover, even...what a rabble...he even posed beside the woman (btw...pheeew...she’s pretty, huh? Did you ever wonder why football players always get the prettiest girls, if football is considered a low-mind-job sport (even that it’s the most popular sport of the world)) he ’stole’ from his teammate...and she even poses to sensual pictures!!! Good heavens...this guy is a crap...
Corinthians was eliminated by River...hmmm...I believe that Corinthians had a better team, but what counts in a match like that (Round Robin, needing to win 2-0 to go to quarter finals) it’s the atittude. Corinthians players stepped the pitch way too worried about the old provoke strategy of the argentinians...it’s a very argentinian (and uruguayan) thing...but them themselves started to act like that...Corinthians scored in the first ten minutes of the 1st half, the ideal thing to happen...but then, decreased the pace...they draw and score 2-1 in the second half...a very deserved score. If only Corinthians had more two players with more category...Now, I’m looking forward to see Paysandu eliminating Boca...hehehe...nothing personal, Ferdan...
Vixzter said on May 15, 2003 16:35:
Real Madrid lost last night *roflol* ;)
@tiny: why is Real Madrid a big team....the same reason Man Utd is a big team.....the big teams have the big cheque books to buy the big players.
Its not really about football....they’re gonna be the best coz they can afford to be.
Its easy to support winners all the time, not so easy to support a team that looses. Man Utd don’t have so many supporters when they don’t win anything. Get my drift? ;)
The bigger they are....the harder they fall!!! :P
P-p-p-pelle said on May 15, 2003 16:47:
@ tinytim
My football life has three heroes as a consequence of Bayern’s Europacup winning in 2001. I became a die hard FC Bayern München fan after their dramatic defeat versus ManU in Barcelona in 1999. Kahn, is the first hero, having stopped Pellegrino’s decisive penalty during the final’s penalty shoot out. There would have been no penalties without Effenberg’s (the second hero) equalising penalty just after half-time (as you might remember Bayern was 1-0 down after 2 minutes due to an early penalty; Scholl mist a penalty for Bayern in the 7th minute)). But Effe would never have scored if there was not Carsten Jancker, third lifetime hero. Brought in the game at half-time and pushing Pellegrino’s arm versus the ball: penalty (scored by Effenberg).
There all three arrogant, and a little scrapulous, but God knows they know what football is.

Hmmm...this one is funnier...hehehehe
But...what the hell...PAYSANDU LOST TO BOCA JUNIORS, 4-2!! IN IT’S OWN HOME!!
WHAT’S WRONG WITH THE WOOOOOORLD!!!??!!!???
AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
NOOOOOOOOO!!
THIS IS UNFAIR!!
Ferdan: That damn Schelotto doesn’t play a bit. He’s a tricker...there are a lof of players like that!!! They simply learn some basic foundations of football and learn how to play fast!! Just that!! Just runners!!
D’Alessandro isn’t the best midfielder of this world, neither from Argentina. He’s a medium player. He isn’t even that kind of player, that neutral element, the space-filler one, that is there only to make right passes...like Riquelme, for example (or Zidane). He never calls attention ’coz he’s constantly dribbling and making stunning plays...he does it in the right hour, like Riquelme did with Palmeiras in 2000...
But D’Alessandro...no! He’s not good, don’t start with that. He only knows how to step on the ball, to make it harder to the defender stealing from him...besides it, nothing reaaaaly special.
Vixzter said on May 16, 2003 07:11:
@tiny: do you actualy like any footballers who aren’t Brazilian? I just wondered ;)
Santi said on May 16, 2003 12:06:
Vixz: I think he only likes Real Madrid because of Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos :P :D
Actually I quite like Roberto Carlos, he seems a nice person.
But anyway, as Vixzter said, that Real Madrid wins everything has not got so much merit. With Real Madrid I even have historical reasons to dislike them. They were the “team of the government” during Franco’s dictatorship and right now they stay related to right-wing way of political thinking. The team was financed by Spanish government... and that it’s proved.
As all they have become now is due to this “unfair play”, why do I have to like them?
Besides, which is the interest in watching a competition if you already know who is going to win? Like Formula 1 last years... which is the interest in watching that Schumacher always wins... do you go to the cinema to watch films that you know the end already?
Real Madrid and Manchester United and so on, as much as they are good in it, they are very bad for football. Because an interesting sport HAS TO BE a good show. And with such teams it seems the future is written.
So yeah, I hope Real Madrid wins just 1 league every 5 years and that this one Real Sociedad will win!! It’s already 20 years we don’t win Spanish league and we proved that the best football in Spain is done by us (do you know Real Sociedad beated Real Madrid 4-1 recently, and 1-3 to Mallorca which the previous matched had won 1-5 Real Madrid...?? So don’t go telling that because of Ronaldo playing in Real Madrid they deserve everything... they are not playing well and I hope they lose every match till the end of the league!).
tinytim said on May 16, 2003 13:32:
Yeah Vix, I do...but I never had much access to the European Leagues...I only watched Uefa Champions League when it was broadcasted by a certain TV network of my country, not anymore. The Italian League was also broadcasted here, but in the last years, it’s soooo boring to watch it...teams way too much defensive...
But in Europe...I like Zidane (EXACTLY what my team needed), Henry, Trezeguet, Thuram from France.
Let me see others...I don’t like Bergkamp that much, I only liked that goal he scored when he swang over the defender after tapping the ball...
Hmmm...Veron and Riquelme...the only Argentinian players worth to watch playing. I don’t know, generally argentinian “skillful” players are that kind of fast, irritating ones...like Claudio Lopez, Killy Gonzalez and (ugh!) Ortega. I mean, the way they dribble has nothing of beautiful...it seems that their plays are achieved almost unintentionally. They pass the ball as it is possible - with the kicker nib, with the side of the foot. Generally, brazilian players are much more classic, they have a “nastier” hability...they demand themselves to always in the classic way, etc...OK, wanna an example? Generally argentinian skillful players are nothing but “Juninhos” - remember? He played in Middlesbrough. Only Veron and Riquelme aren’t...
Well, others...maybe Davids, Okocha and of course, Owen. I like Beckham too, but not that much. I think the only thing he knows to do is to lob and kick the free kicks. I don’t see him really showing skill with the ball, etc...
A thing that really makes me mad about European coaches it’s that they never call the best players to be in their teams...like France 98, for example...if Cantona and Ginola were part of France’s team, we would see some show in the pitch...and Brazil would lose much more than 3-0...
tinytim said on May 16, 2003 13:38:
Hmm...that’s why I like Brazilian League Santi (well, this year our teams will play a league).
BTW, what do you know about brazilian teams? And the players that are here? Do Sports Shows from Europe show any highlight about brazilian players playing (yet...) in Brazil?
And yeah, Santi, I tend to support teams where brazilians are - Milan, Borussia, Real Madrid...
I like Man U, too, but in England, I’m more an Arsenal fan...I only dislike that slack-mouth Vieira...he talks too much and plays nothing...
And I do not support Arsenal for Edu - he played in my team, Corinthians, hehehe... - it’s cause I played Fifa Soccer with Arsenal and I started to like it, then...of course I transfered to it a lot of brazilian players, hehehehe...but I liked Arsenal since I knew it was the first team that utilized a tactical scheme in history.
And it was funny that, some years in the past. ARSENal head couch was a french called ARSENe Winger...hehehehe...

Looked more like acting, I’d give the entire Porto team an Oscar as everytime they got tackled or looked like they were going to be tackled they rolled around on the floor as iff someone had just broken their legs.
Henrik Larsson was the best player on the pitch!, he twice out jumped Porto’s defence *roflol*
Sorry, I just hate to see football played that way, its gamesmanship....not real football, funny how all the Porto players seemed to be able to come back onto the pitch after their ’life threatening’ injuries.
;P

tinytim said on May 22, 2003 12:27:
Santi, Deco is brazilian, and, btw, he started in my team, Corinthians...he was a very good midfielder in the age of 19...but an enterprise, called Euroexpress cared of all Corinthians’ sub-20 players, in 1997. Corinthians even had a very good centerforward, too, called Marcos Alemão (excelent kicker, with both legs). They were all sold, Deco departured in Portugal and Marcos Alemão it is somewhere in Brazil...probably playing in some 3rd division club, and probably in its bench...
Well, Vix, if you hate this kind of game...I only wonder what would you feel if you watched to a match between Argentinan/Uruguayan/Paraguayan teams x Brazilian teams...anger for sure...
BTW...I still can’t swallow that D’Alessandro...I wante do pick that Yellow Boy head he got and use a can-opener on it...hehehehehehe...
tinytim said on May 22, 2003 12:30:
BTW...what happened to Deco it’s what mostly happen with our young stars, ’coz there’s always an european team to buy’em, right? Like this Barcelona’s Thiago Motta...I don’t have idea where did he start here in Brazil...probably he left here quite early in his career...
Vixzter said on May 22, 2003 16:11:
@tiny: is it all like that then? that would drive me nuts! its not football its about trying to get players booked and sent off.
OK so the guy who got sent off for Celtic deserved to go....2 very bad challenges.....but right at the end....when Porto’s goalkeeper went down.....that was pathetic.....he seemed to be ok though coz he got up and took the free kick....I thought it was life threatening the way he was rolling about on the floor.
tinytim said on May 22, 2003 16:41:
Vix: just remember what happened with David Beckhome (I mean, Beckham) in ’98...
They’re specialists in booking, senting off...almost like football jurists...how to provoke, defend and manage bookings and such...
Of course...that; without mention when they take that looooong time to free kick in the defensive field...or even the goalkicks...
BTW...what is this “Bend it like Beckham” movie about? Is it cool? And what it means with this “bend”? Is it an english football expression?
Until where I know, female footbal isn’t so popular in UK as it isn’t here in Brazil...or am I wrong? (only in U.S., it’s popular)
Vixzter said on May 22, 2003 17:30:
Unfortunatley if you like football and ure a girl here in the UK ure looked upon as either weird or a tomboy. I used to play until my dad said that it wasn’t a sport for girls and I took up hockey instead, in my first season playing that I’d broken my nose and got more bruises than you can shake a stick at.
Anyways.....referee’s should be able to spot the acting, ok so fouls are commited i’m not saying don’t punish the fouls....but stop the rolling on the floor.....you can tell when a player is seriously hurt....coz mostly they don’t move about alot.....coz it hurts.
That David Beckham thing is another case of play acting....i’m not saying what Beckham did was right.....but did he really kill Diego Simmione (appologies for spelling)....coz thats what it looked like to me, whats even funnier is he actualy made conatct (thats debatable) with his shinpad, crap shinpads then if it hurt him that bad. David got his revenge anyways ;)
As for Bend It Like Beckham ....I’ve not seen it yet...its supposed to be funny....sommit about girls playing football :)
I guesse we use bend as theres no other word for it.....take Beckhams free kicks....or Robertos Carlos’s free kicks....when they hit the ball its traveling off in a diferent direction than where it ends up.....so its bending.....if you see what i mean ;) i suppose u could also use curl ;)
edited due to real bad spelling ;) a bit like coyboy’s ;)

EXTRAAAAAAA: ¡¡¡SPANISH LEAGUE UPDATE!!!
Real Madrid did it great in one of the most difficult stadiums, that is in Valencia against Valencia CF winning yesterday.
But Real Sociedad had their chance tonight against CD Malaga in Malaga (also tough cuz Malaga could get a place for UEFA and are a pretty strong team) and... THEY WON, So they are still LEADING SPANISH FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!
WOWOWOW REAL SOCIEDAD GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! :D GORA ERREALA!!!!!!!!

Tonight’s the most important match in Europe, in the whole season! It’s the final of Champions League, this year with 2 Italian teams playing in Old Trafford (Manchester United’s stadium).
So, which one do you think will win?
I’d say Juventus! Well, in 3 hours and 45 minutes the match starts! :p
xuxa said on May 28, 2003 21:37:

tinytim said on June 19, 2003 13:00:
Now...I wanna know what Vix and Santi has to say about it...
@Santi: Real is about one victory to win the League:
@Vix (and Santi): Beckham in MADRID?
I mean...where in the field will he play? They will put Zizou as a defensive midfielder, with Makelele?
This is for sure a megalomania....footballistic!
They should change the name to Real Globertrotters...
That can’t be serious...the 1st player in history expensively bought just for marketing!!
Santi said on June 19, 2003 14:29:
In Spain if you say just “Real” it stands for Real Sociedad :O Real Madrid said with just 1 word is “Madrid”, not Real.
So Real is 1 victory away from winning the league, yeah, but we need that Athletic Bilbao wins Real Madrid. Barcelona needs Real Madrid to win for getting a place in UEFA, but Athletic de Bilbao depend on themselves, if they don’t win Real Madrid, they will be most surely out of UEFA cup. So both Real Sociedad and Athletic de Bilbao (Which are 2 or the 3 Basque teams in Spanish First Division) MUST win.
About Beckham, I couldn’t care less about him. But maybe you would like to know that Real Madrid is chasing for some weeks Ronaldinho, who says he doesn’t want to come here but... who knows...
I think there’s not enough space for so many star in Real Madrid... and anyway, they are just people as well. Just watch this season... if they win anything at all, it will be in the last match...
I don’t really understand why you want the “most expensive” team always to win. Real Sociedad has been playing the best football here. Real Sociedad with 95% of the same players last 3 years stayed in the first division 2 matches before finishing the league as a mean. They have done a great work and even if they don’t win the league, for me this season has been wonderful and I’ll celebrate it anyway! But I prefer the league, of course :P
Next week is my birthday and it would be such a nice present! :D
Vixzter said on June 19, 2003 20:47:

ok, I wonder why Real Madrid bought Beckham if they have Figo?? I mean, Figo and Beckham play in the same position, right?? And I remember that real Madrid president once said that Figo is indispensable. Do they need to have two stars to occupy the same position??
Santi said on June 21, 2003 14:50:
Real Madrid hires big names.
They hired Figo cuz it was a Barcelona player, and they hired Beckham cuz his future is outside Manchester United (I heard he had problems with the coach) and Barcelona had made a big offer for him (Barcelona also uses to hire “big names”). Real Madrid saw the chance there, cuz Beckham didn’t want to go to Barcelona. Barcelona won’t play Champions league and they need almost a miracle to play in UEFA cup (they are most likely to be outside any european competition) and that is why he wouldn’t go. Madrid offered less money but they will be in that competition, so that’s why.
By the way, I’ve heard Rui Costa could be playing for Benfica next year.
xuxa said on June 21, 2003 15:07:
I dunno, but one of the conditions that Camacho put to stay in Benfica next year was that Benfica should buy 3 or 4 players with very good qualities. Rui Costa is certainly an excelent choice. We’ll see...
xuxa said on June 21, 2003 22:00:
But Santi, Figo and Beckham play in the same position, and i am sure that the Madrid’s couch is not gonna put them playing both in the same place at the same time, right??? So, what is going to happen??? Figo or Beckham will stay in the bench?? a player like Figo or Beckham in the bench??? Don’t think so.....
Vixzter said on June 22, 2003 09:15:
Beckham was brought more for the fact that he can sell shirts rather than his football.
I think the idea is to play him in central midfield and have Figo further up in a more attacking role.
As for him leaving Man Utd....he’s hardly spoken to Sir Alex Fergeson since he kicked a boot that hit Beckham in the face back in february, its well known that Fergerson doesn’t like Beckhams lifestyle.
Man Utd started talks with Barcelona behind Beckhams back......so Beckham had talks with Real Madrid......Barcelona’s president said he would sign Beckham as part of his election plan......Beckham signs for Real Madrid.
Santi said on June 22, 2003 09:34:

An attacker player from the portuguese team Benfica, Miklus Féher, died just a few minutes before the end of the game with a heart attack. Fehér was 24 years old.
Today my country is in mourning. It was a big shock. Unbelievable. how can a thing like that can happen??
It is in situations like this that we realize that the barrier that separates life from death is soooo tenuous....
During all day thousands of people from everywhere and supporters from all team have been in Benfica’s stadium with just one matter: TOGETHER, pay tribute to the hungarian player.
I hope that tragedies like this help to open people’s eyes and make people think that the fights and rivalries that happen so often in football are really not worth it!!!
Rest in Peace Féher!!! We will all miss you!!
