CoyBoy, Yes, MIchelle is more talented. Avril is good too.. she has some brillian tracks in her album but I hate songs like sk8r boy!?
Majdy said on April 25, 2003 04:46:
I don’t hate her, but I don’t really like her anyway. but I respect her music and it’s 100000000000000000000000 times better than Britney Spears music.

So what she doesn’t write her own songs? Do u think Brintey does that? DUH.. she HAS the talent to become a mature artist one day besides she sang some of the songs brilliant.. my favorites are... “LOOSING GRIP’, “Complicated” and “I am with you”.
Majdy: Yes u r sooo right.
Wendy: Try Michelle Branch.. I love her songs.. my favs are “ALL YOU WANTED” and “EVERYWHERE” gr8 stuff.

Avril is cool! Not something I would always choose from my music, but when it’s on, I can’t help but get into it. My band has just finished our cover od sk8er boi. hehe, we’re gonna be famous some day!
Stormkeeper said on April 25, 2003 18:39:
why is it so important for some people that artists have to write their own material?
animalkingdom said on April 25, 2003 19:51:
Whaat? AL doesn’t write her own songs? Oh man...
I could write such crap as Sk8er Boi myveryself!!
She’s a total caricature of the past-time big sellers: I don’t like her music one single bit - and I think I am turning into a mad bull right about now.. ARGGGh!!
wendy said on April 25, 2003 20:25:
Who cares if she doesn’t write her own songs......It’s not easy, have you ever tried to write a song by yourself???
All possible song excist already, well,a lot,i think it’s very hard to write some “new, different” song!!!

Interesting argument indeed. And certainly true. But then again: There is music and there is music. There is Avril, there is eg New Order and there is Bach. ;-) Do you see my point? :-)
Do I have to be a chef to say that I don’t like what I get to eat? Don’t really think so.

OMG today I watched the Bravo show and she performed there ... live... I couldn’t stop laughing, she CAN’T sing at all, she sang everything out of tune! I wonder how much the engineers have had to work on the computer to make her voice on the albums sound fine!!

Well, Avril is not as AUTHENTIC as Michelle Branch, but on disc, “Let Go” is a decent collection. I’ll have to see how she progresses as an artist for me to get back into Avril. See, if you don’t write much, if at all, and you’re not a stylist/chanteuse, then you’re a puppet, molded by the record companies, to get on the radio and generate instant hits. It’s all about the marketing and sales, sales, sales, the epitome of BUBBLEGUM, and people like Britney and KISS are in this class too. Unless Avril progresses as an artist, from the craft of “Let Go”, she is basically a puppet on the marketing string, sorry to say. Michelle Branch is a singer/songwriter/guitarist, the real deal, and she wrote half of her album’s songs by herself, no help, and co-wrote the other half. She plays all guitar parts, and some keyboard parts as well. Her new album, “Hotel Paper” comes out June 10th, can’t wait!!

yeah rumour has it she also wants off the maverik label ...as for the songwriting thing ..i think there are 2 types of artists...interpreters like celine dion she doesn’
t write anything and then the singer song writer prodoucers like roxette etc..i think the latter are more credible.
Jud (moderator) said on April 28, 2003 12:42:
I prefer the latter too, I think that they are “more artists”... and that the others “just” have a nice voice and face (not always though - thinking of Mariah Carey yuk)... So I respect an artist who writes, sings, plays instruments, produces.... more than others who just have a nice voice and face.

Yep, Michelle’s next album drops in June, and she is touring again, first headlining, then opening some shows for the Dixie Chicks!! ;-) Her next record has been in the works for a while, I hope “The Game Of Love” will be on it!!
Coyboy, yes, Michelle stood up to Maverick because they signed her up for some promotional jaunts without asking her permission first, and she felt she was taken advantage of, so she filed a lawsuit. Michelle was right for doing so, and both sides are sorting things out; Madonna wants to make sure Meech is happy, she’s always been in Meech’s corner. As for those people who signed Meech up?? Madonna will fire them so fast they don’t know what’s coming!! Meech is smart and Madonna knows this...
Yes, as for the songwriting, Meech falls in the latter category, along with Roxette: singers/songwriters/instrumentalists/producers, REAL artists!! Much more credible, unique and genuine. Otherwise, you’re plastic and faceless...

I read avril composed “Complicated”
It´s an excellent pop song. good for her
powerpoplarry said on May 1, 2003 05:09:
Actually?? Not exactly. The Matrix, a 3-person production/songwriting team, they composed about 90% of the song!! Avril just changed some words around here + there. That song is not even typical of an Avril-written song!! That would go to either “Losing Grip” or “Unwanted”, both rougher, not-as-polished songs. The Matrix’-mainly written + produced songs, “Complicated” and 4 others, including the other 2 hits, are too polished and professional-bubblegum to have been written solely by Avril. The song, while well-crafted, reeks of songwriting professionalism, dontcha think??
The way The Matrix are totally hands-on, kinda makes me scared of other acts that work with them, as they mey not have any credibility either. I know Liz Phair is working with them, but so is Britney + this new Canadian powerpop girlband called LILLIX, who caught my eye + ear, I have to see if they are the real deal. Based on stuff I read, they could be. Madonna signed them to Maverick, with the green light stemming from a 5-song acoustic set they played right in front of her, so they could be for real.
