decreased popularity

why do you think it happened that in many countries (such as Peru and Lebanon) Roxette is only remembered as the band who made The Look and Joyride, but after that, they were completely forgotten and people think they don’t exist anymore???

Of course you can always blame EMI, but...
Per and Marie don’t like to promote around the world 365 days a year. They prefer to concentrate on Europe nowadays, to have time for their families and co., that’s naturally mirrored in the media attention as well. And the popularity of every band decreases over the years, the public is always demanding new and fresh faces!

It’s all about promotion and more so image nowadays. Roxette are no longer promo freaks like they used to be when they were younger. They are obviously happy now with what work they do so they can be closer to home with their families. That’s understandable. As a result, promo work suffers and therefore there’s not as much buzz surrounding their releases, especially concerning major markets like the U.S.
Also add image to the picture. Roxette is and never was an “image band.” Unfortunately, much of the music that’s sold today is based on image and record company hype of the freshest new face. Established acts often get the back seat in favor of the latest, hottest new act on the scene. It’s really unfortunate that record companies treat their acts this way. But that’s how the business works!
I think what’s really important in the end is that Roxette continues making records and the fans continue supporting them in whatever ways possible.

Am I right when I say that ’Sleeping In My Car” and “Crash Boom Bang” where their last real “big hits”. I mean realy ’big hits’, I remember that after those ones the sales and popularity where going down big time. They started releasing CBB singels very fast the one after the other. They released Fireworks, Run To You, Vulnerable within a couple of months and none of them where chartbreakers (great songs though). After that Rox didn’t score really big anymore. Or am I wrong here, cause I don’t know exact numers, it’s just a feeling.

Santi: Looking at the Rolling stones, you would think the opposite..

well, it´s true. I´m a big fan and I don´t care. Per´s songs are always great, but there´s many circunstances that make you more or less successfull. “The look” was a big hit. “Joyride” too. It´s impossible to be always on the top and they´re more than 40 and rich. They have to make music for fun. I will always listen to them!

Rolling Stones also haven’t big singles anymore!! But they still sell albums very well like Roxette because both groups have loyal fans for many years!!

Still, it would be nice for one more shot at seeing them perform. I can’t afford to go to Europe. By the time I can, 10 to 1 odds say they won’t be touring by the time I can afford to make it there. Which really bites for folks like me.
