i just wondered if sometimes anyone else thinks that soe roxette songs are just songs, with no real emotions?
per said hes going to write songs about peace / war, so will not write songs about marie being ill, what will he right just songs ? sometimes they lack real emotion and feeling in some albums, room service i thought was the most non emotional album they have done, while HAND was, with beautiful things, anyone, and i was so lucky ?
Marie writes from the heart,
so does per write from the head ?
im not sure what do you think ? :-)

Well...I sometimes think about these things... It’s nice to see that I’m not the only one... Per said many times that he writes songs as if he’s making up a story... So, it’s very possible not to put his feelings in ( certain) songs...But don’t forget that lack of HIS OWN emotions doesn’t mean that the songs are emotionless... Since there are a lot of people here that feel really touched by Roxette songs (music AND lyrics), it’s obvious that emotions exist. I mean all Rox songs are about love, so, it must be some emotionalism in them, otherwise it’s useless writing such songs.. SO, I’m sure you meant that the rox songs don’t contain PER’s emotions...because no one can say that rox songs never give to anybody any goose-bumps(is it correct?)...
On the other hand, a good piece of art does not have to contain the artist’s feelings...Maybe the artist is very creative and a very good receiver of emotions from all over the place, and he’s able to express them in very good images/words...There’s a whole story behind author’s involvement in his masterpiece...(see Umberto Eco’s concept of “opera aperta” or “the open piece of art”)...Every masterpiece contain an “openess”...It’s open to others’ interpretations and can induce emotions... If marie writes about herself and Per (probably) writes about some fictional characters, doesn’t mean that the former or the latter is better/worse than the other... As I said, you can be very good “mirror” (receiving and re-creating others’ feelings and make them better than ever, putting them into action and making them really relevant for everybody)... The importance and preciousness of a song/masterpiece doesn’t lay in its being “truth” regarding author’s real feelings...
Although, the romantinc poets did everything for becoming more creative by “increasing” their feelings using drugs, that was because in the XIX th century the main artistic stream was about “truthness” of the feelings one writes about...You should experience some things if you want to write some interesting poem about them - one could say (this is what the existentialism was all about)...But, in the same time great writers like Dostoievski or Thomas Mann wrote (mainly) about fictional characters...they also introduced (carefully) their own feelings and treats in many of their characters, but the most of them weren’t real...And that didn’t make them less important as artists...
Per can write great songs about someone else’s feelings that he himself observed and thought about...And I’m sure there are some personal feelings involved too... And, objectively speaking, people that don’t use ONLY their own experiences and feelings to create something, are obviously more creative than those who can only write good words about things they experienced ...It’s about EMPATHY and BEING REALLY CREATIVE and EXTRAPOLATION...
...In the end it doesn’t really matter if you are directly involved in the song’s theme or not... The problem is about make it in the right way!! You can write shit about yourself (easy words, common or unexpressive feelings and so on) or about other characters, or you can be brilliant in both directions...(I think Per sometimes is, sometimes is not...)
And finally, I also want to say that Per is protecting himself by writing something that doesn’t concern him directly...Think about it: he writes SOO many songs, so many lyrix and it’s almost impossible to have a life such rich in events... and it’s not wise either to expose yourself too much...We tend to explain his lyrix anyway...And we are always ready to find his own experiences behind some songs... I myself tend to do it, because I’m not sure whether he’s (partly) lying when he said that he just makes up stories...You’ll never know...

you have to wonder don’t you how emotive you can be when you’ve recorded essentially the same song 10 times to get thge right mix...since we all know per is a perfectionist?

@animalkingdom: am not turning to anyone but my own opinion... yes, I do prefer Marie getting better above anything else. And what I meant to say is that when she might start writing stuff off her own again and that will be released, one can be sure emotions are in the lyrics and so, as that’s what almost all songs of hers are about
