The foreign exchange student....

Does any1 know who the foreign exchange student was who let Roxette’s Look Sharp! loose on the American public? Wonder if he’s a personal friend, still likes Roxette, etc.... Could it be Mr TDR himself?

Cheers

I wonder if this Guy actually existed for real.

Somewhere I’ve read that this is only a legend created by EMI.

No, Dean Cushman’s real alright. But he started making funny demands so EMI shunned him.

The following is Quoted Direct from a Dolly [Australia] Magazine Issue just before Joyride was released. This is Per’s Own Words

“He badgered his local FM radio station, KDWB, to play it”.. “I couldn’t believe it, you know? They seem to really get into that in America but no one would think of doing that in Sweden. Well I wouldn’t anyway! So the stations program director really liked the look, and they put it on air almost straight away. Within Four weeks it was being played all over America! I Believe other radio stations actually taped the song of KDWB so they could play it on their airwaves”... “I love mentioning the knocked us back”...

“The kind of Success we’ve had is something you dream of but it’s definately not anything like the kind you expect. So we had a big party for Dean Cushman when we were in the states. We gave him some gold records and stuff like that. It was nice.”

Obviously Dean cushman existed, Per himself said that a Station in LA was playing the song before Dean brought it to KDWB, but they used the story.

Dean if your out there come and say G’day

Dave

what kind of funny demands? :)

seeing per dressed up in stockings and suspender belt maybe?? That’s quite funny!

LOL! I don’t know exactly. EMI gave him Gold Records and other nice things (there’s a pic in Roxette - The Book). But he just kept on taking. I heard he wanted parts of the profits as well, but I can’t guarantee that part’s validity.
Edit: He he, just saw your part about the gold records, Dave! :)

the guy does exist it’s great to remeber how just a chance listen to a record back in the days could dspawn a monstorus career now its all about who u sleep with or have shot i miss the 80’s

Well, all he did was introducing the song to the station manager of KDWB (I think his name is Rain Phillips or something like that.) The manager however loved “The Look” and told his DJ to play the song on air. So I think he actually deserve more credit...

Strange though, KDWB don’t play Roxette songs at all anymore! Another local radio station in Minneapolis still plays the songs from the LS album on a regular basis. The music on KDWB actually sux as they play the same songs over and over again the whole time, and 80% of this songs is stuff like Nelly... Maybe that is why Roxette worked cos the songs on the playlist is very limited and plays ever 3 hours...The look every three hours on the Radio! Cool! LOL...

I’ve read somewhere they decided to keep this story because it sounds much more “epic” but that The Look was being already playing in Los Angeles by the time this guy did all this.

Santi: Thats what I said.

Tevennso: No Problem, Your a wealth of Information.

Dave
