Hey all,
There’s a really cool article about Roxette in today’s issue of Dutch Newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, i’ve just seen!
There’s even a little photo of Per and Marie on their frontpage.
Per says in the article that Marie will be out for the rest of this year.
Groeten!

Some parts of the article (most is old news)
ROXETTE DRINKS WINE AGAIN
After almost 10 years Swedish duo Roxette again is in the Dutch album top 10. The sudden succes comes at a time that singer Marie is at home recovering from a heavy brainoperation. If she will ever perform again, is uncertain.
The blond singer MaRIE was, with her short peaking hair, THE face of Roxette. That image is gone for now. Due to Chemotherapie she’s lost all her hair. If she will ever perform again with Roxette is far from certain.
Per Gessle thinks Marie needs the rest of this year to recover. “Her illness changed our lives forever”.
“She’s doing much better now. All though she’s good and bad days, she can look to the future now. Marie sometimes has problems walking and feels dissy from time to time. But last Saturday we had dinner together, and she even had some glasses of wine!”
Due to the healthproblems, Roxette had to cancel the Night of the Proms tour. Gessle: “We made the deal tha we would perform as soon as we’re ready. Unfortunately, this year is not an option”
The collector “The ballad hits”, got in the Dutch album top 10. That’s for the first time since 1994, Roxette is doing so well in Holland. For Gessle it’s great and a surprise: “Great and strange at the same time. We’ve lost terrain in Holland the past years. But we kept on doing what we do for 17 years now. We’re an oldfashioned band and we don’t foloow the latest trends. That’s why it’s great people are still interested in us. On the record there is some new material, with which we wanna show we’re still an active band, and are not only looking in the past.”
In Holland the fame of Roxette as a “hitmachine” has watered a bit. All though Roxette in a lot of European countries is still as popular as in the 90’s, the band didn’t had much succes in the charts in Holland. What is the reason according to Gessle?
“Well.... you’ll never get the answer. Maybe the songs were not good enough, or maybe it was the recordcompany. It’s not very important. Off course I still have a big ego, that likes to get a boost when a lot of people buy your album. But, due to the situation with marie, you learn to look to the business in a different way. I no longer am concerned with the fact Roxette sells one or Two million albums”
Gessle IS concerned about the fact that the televisionshows who “produce artists” are becoming so popular. Gessle: “I don’t like a show like idols. It makes me sad the industrie is producing the music in such a way. Bands like Roxette or U2 need time to develop. Nowdays you don’t have that time. It’s all about charts and hits. A shame. We loose a lot of talented artists because of this.”
But Gessle did wrote a song for K-otic, a televisionband. Gessle: “I have no idea how that track ended up by that band. I sometimes deliver songs to recordcompanies, without knowing what they’re gonna do with it. I don’t have anything agains produced bands, as long as they’re not taking over the world of pop music.” And rgarding the K-otic song? “I liked my version more!”
Next month a new album will be released. With all the popsongs and a new single: Opportunity nox. Marie did a part of the vocals at home recently. “A scarry moment for her”, Gessle says. “She was affraid she couln’t keep a single tone, but it went great” Yes, i believe she will be fine in the end!”

didi they really have a interview with him, or did they use translations from interviews on roxette.nl and daily roxette?

I believe the journalist spoke to Per on the phone, or went to Sweden. For sure i know, Per wasn’t in Holland... But because of the fact that he goes into typical Dutch Roxette stuff, it can’t be from a swedish newspaper.....

I think AD had an interview by phone. Because the article says:
’...vertelt zanger/tekstschrijver Gessle vanuit Stockholm’
’..tells singer/songwriter Gessle from(?) Stockholm’
Groetjes
