I have a copy of Pearls Of Passion on CD with catalogue number CDP7464592. How do i know if it’s an original or a bootleg?
ted_roxette said on February 21, 2003 20:53:
hi hows the star in front to the roxette text or?
it can be the 1991 re release u know
SkyDrum said on February 21, 2003 21:02:
How can I recognize which is original and which is re-edition? Are there original copies that in the CD don’t say Made In Sweden?
pietROxette said on February 21, 2003 21:05:
The re-release was in 1997 and it contains 8 additional tracks.
SkyDrum said on February 21, 2003 21:12:
I meant the 1991 re-edition, I have already got the “Pearls of Passion, The First Album” long time ago...
Chester said on February 21, 2003 21:16:
It’s the 12 track - 1986 EMI Svenska AB. On the booklet the gold star is behind the Roxette text.
Vixzter said on February 21, 2003 21:18:
Bootleg : Star in front of Roxette lettering on the front cover, printed on cheap glossy paper, star appears a kind of dirty gold colour.
Original : Star on front appears behind the Roxette lettering on the front cover, printed on decent quality heavy paper, star has a more bronze/gold colour
Cat# CDP7464592
Re-release : On front cover star appears behind Roxette lettering, just above that is written ’The First Album’, actual cd contains xtra trax which are:
13. Pearls Of Passion
14. It Must Have Been Love (Xmas for the broken hearted)
15.Turn To Me
16.Neverending Love (T&A demo)
17.Secrets That She Keeps (T&A demo)
18. I Call Your Name (Montezuma demo)
19.Neverending Love (Frank mono mix)
20. I Call You Name (Frank mono mix)
Cat#7243 836196 2 7
Hope that helps.
tevensso (moderator) said on February 21, 2003 21:20:
The difference between the ’86 and ’91 editions is that the star is in front of ROXETTE instead of behind. It’s a printing error.
Edit: and the rest what Vix said! :) We wrote simultaneously.
Vixzter said on February 21, 2003 21:21:
LOL my cds were just on the rack above my monitor so I thought I’d dust em off ;)
Chester said on February 21, 2003 21:22:
Thanks Vixzter!
This one has always puzzled me as i bought it in Majorca in 1997. The star is bronze, behind the Roxette and the paper is not glossy.
Vixzter said on February 21, 2003 21:23:
sounds original to me then, although....how the hell did it get out to Majorca ;) stranger things have happend :P
ditroia said on February 22, 2003 09:34:
If the Data side of the cd says toolex alpha then the number it is original. if it just has the number it is bootleg.

ted_roxette said on February 22, 2003 12:57:
hi
so which edition does u have the 86 one or the 1991 one?
does anyvone have the 1991 one for salwe or the 1991 lp??????
Chester said on February 22, 2003 14:37:
It appears i have quite a good quality bootleg, as it doesn’t have toolexy stuff printed on the data side of the cd.
Vixzter said on February 23, 2003 19:27:
neither does mine....but i know ones and original and ones a bootleg.
ted_roxette said on February 23, 2003 19:42:
I have 2 of the orginal 86 anyvone intrested in it just swapping
japeke said on February 23, 2003 20:09:
The look for roxette - there you can find everything about those releases.
Denstandigaresan said on February 23, 2003 21:29:
My star is bronze.. and in front... I bought from virgin, the day the 97 release was due out.. whats mine? :( Better not be bootleg, coming from virgin.....!
ditroia said on February 24, 2003 01:45:
Guys this has nothing to do with the 1997 re release. this is for ppl whjo bought the 1986 or 1991 release on cd.
If your 1986 release does not have cd toolex alpha it is a bootleg. Not sure about the 1991 release.
Dave
Vixzter said on February 24, 2003 06:34:
ditroia : I brought (won on ebay) my original from a Swedish dealer (wonderland records) who assured me it was, it doesn’t have the toolex alpha on it.
pietROxette said on February 24, 2003 08:12:
I also bought one on eBay two days ago. Dunno if it has that toolex alpha thing on it (don’t even know what the hell is that), but I think all of us can make a difference between a bootleg and an original release.
ditroia said on February 24, 2003 12:48:
Vixter: Sebastian Hess [Wonderland] is a very reliable guy, so perhaps you have the 1991 rerelease.
Can you scan your front page of the booklet and the front of the cd for me, I want to compare it to mine, which I was told was not oriningal cos it don;t have cd toolex alpha by about 5 ppl on the RML.
Cheers
Dave
celrox said on February 24, 2003 16:28:
the toolexnumbers stand on the back of the cd not the front. if you look at the cd its the latest ring near the whole in the middle and the 86 + 91 issue have it both the only thing different is the star on the front
NickNL74 said on February 25, 2003 12:41:
DAMN!! I thought I had a bootleg but when I read all this info it appears to be the original.. but as I read a little further it only turned out to be the original booklet (bronze star behind roxette, no glossy paper, 1986 release).. the cd has only got the number and no toolex alpha.. Guess I got fooled after all :-(
NickNL74 said on February 25, 2003 12:43:
Also: When you open the cd case and look at the right bottom corner of the booklet it sais “SIB-TRYCK AB” Is that correct?
AntiMario said on February 25, 2003 14:14:
Hell knows whether Toolex Alpha is only on originals. But maybe.. The 2 copies I got hold were both with Toolex as well as Sib Tryck AB with the jumping jaguar. So you probably have the authentic booklet for sure :)
Also some Look Sharp! releases have SIB TRYCK logo. And only they are ORIGINALS!!!!
Ha-ha-ha. Just joking :)
Vixzter said on February 25, 2003 17:36:
@Nick: mines not got toolex alpha either but I’ve been assured its original......so who can tell :(
Chester said on February 25, 2003 22:24:
It seems as though i’ve got the same copy as NickNL74. At least i know now!
Vixzter said on February 25, 2003 23:03:
OK....according to the discography ( which now makes me doubt my copy)
1) on the back of the actual disc it should be printed “TOOLEX ALPHA CDP 7 46459-2/01 CDM” or “TOOLEX ALPHA CDP 7 46459 2 AO @ 1” and not “7464592” as the bootleg copy has printed.
OK.....so far mines a bootleg!
But......
2) on the back insert of the cd the year of release should be printed “(P) 1986 EMI SVENSKA AB” and not “(P) 1986, EMI SVENSKA AB” with the extra comma as the bootleg copy has printed.
Well.....on the back insert on my “bootleg” ...... its printed.....
(P) 1986 & (C) 1986 EMI SVENSKA AB
So ....what does that make mine.....a hybrid? :P
I probably wouldn’t have brought this from ebay if I knew it to be a bootleg as I already one.
How many bootlegs are there out there??? it seems we all have them.....and hardly anyone has come up with an original so far :(
ditroia said on February 26, 2003 02:14:
If your Cd Don’t Have ..”Toolex Alpha”
It is a bootleg.
The boooklet like mine matches the original like others have said.
The Cd also looks official.
Sorry Guys. It is a very good bootleg, but not the original.
Most people just don’t know how to spot it.
Sorry to say I was right.
Vixter: you Should Email Sebastian to tell him.
Dave
P.S. Out of Curiosity Those who have the bootleg what colour is you spine,[on the plastic cover] mine is white but I think the official one is black.
Vixzter said on February 26, 2003 06:37:
Mine is black! :P
Most ppls must have bootlegs by the sounds of it, anyone got an original?
Chester said on February 26, 2003 10:08:
I have the same copy as you Vixzter. It looks pretty spot on doesn’t it. The only (Mistake) i have found is on the printed side of the Cd. Track 9, Joy Of A Toy doesn’t have a box around the number 9. The spine is black - by the way........

@ted : i’ll swap a bootleg for an original. ;)
@deluk : you’re one of then few then.
@dave : brought it about 2 years ago.....doubt he will remember selling it on ebay, will just have to go in search of a real one, thats if ted doesn’t wanna swap my bootleg for his original ;)
@ted (again): anything you wanna swap it with??
egmond said on February 26, 2003 17:17:
how much did you guys paid for the original 1986 copy? I don’t even want to mention how much mine cost a few years ago, but I bought it from EIL.COM 5 years after I bought the original LP (also from eil). I couldn’t afford the CD back then cause it was about 100 pounds!!!

As far as I know, mine is an original. I stumbled across it in Our Price (LOL) in Golders Green, London in ’92 and it cost me £14.49 (import CD). Front inlay: The star is bronze and under ROXETTE, CD: TOOLEX ALPHA CDP 7 46459-2 and the back inlay is white with a black spine... (P) 1986 & © 1986 EMI Svenska AB. Robert, the author of “The Look For Roxette” has seen it and says it is. I got it signed by Per & Marie in gold pen :)
NickNL74 said on February 28, 2003 01:37:
Well.. at least it has the correct catalogue number on it ;-)
Vixzter said on February 28, 2003 08:30:
@ted : no point, I brought it ages ago, he isn’t going to remember every auction he’s ever done.
Seriously pissed off now, might aswell use it as a coaster! anyone want a bootleg, I have 2 of them, one looks shit and one doesn’t. >:(
Oliver said on March 1, 2003 19:27:
I always thought I´d have the original one, but I also have the number 7464592 on the backside of the CD, so it seems to be a bootleg.

Well I am keeping mine, for my collection. I bought it in my home town. The people said they bought it when they were in Sweden, I don’t think they had any idea it was a bootleg.
Dave
P.S. I am sure Sebastian would have known how to tell the difference from a boot and the original.

I asked him yesterday at the recordfait.
he said that he wouldnt sell a bootleg on an auction but i said that it didnt had toolex alpha......

If it says Roxette: Pearls Of Passion and the tacklisting is as you can see on http://pietroxette.com then it’s an original release. It can, however, be a pirate copy, but it’s easy to determine whether a CD is fake or original.
