Sheryl Crow - non-album songs - help needed
i_jera said on February 14, 2003 23:48:
can someone please dive me the full list (or at least “fuller” than mine) of Sheryl’s non-album & soundtrack songs?
and can you give me more info on the songs I have (or I will have, soon I hope) ? when are they written (/ covered / sung with whoever they are sung), where do they appear (on soundtack, compilation, etc.)...?
by now I have:
-> Tomorrow Never Dies (as you may guess, I know about that one)
-> All By Myself
-> In Need (Hope Floats soundtack)
-> Kiss That Girl (Bridget Jones’ Diary soundtrack) /that one is great, IMHO/
-> Mother Nature’s Son (cover of the Beatles’ song)
-> Emmylou Harris & Sheryl Crow - Juanita
-> Dwight Yokam & Sheryl Crow - Baby Don’t Go
-> Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow - Picture (I know about that one)
-> Sheryl & M. J. Blige (huh?!) - Rockin’ Around The X-mas Tree *
-> various artists - Sweaters *
-> Stevie Nicks & Sheryl - If you Ever Did *
-> Little Wing (cover of Bob Dylan, I think) *
-> Santa Monica *
-> Zuccero & Sheryl Crow (??!!!) - Blue *
-> The Right Kind Of Wrong *
(I’m not sure about the ones marked with *, these I still haven’t downloaded , I have ’em just listed for downloading)
and what about these songs, do thay exist and are they written by Crow? ::
-> All Kinds Of People
-> Father Sun
-> What Does It Matter
-> Indian Summer
-> I Will Walk With You
okay, I know, lot’s of questions, but any help is very appreciated, since I couldn’t find any good site with the info I need... so...

OK, I don’t know EVERY Sheryl non-album tune, but here are some I DO know:
First off, I dunno where U are from, but the Japanese “Sheryl Crow” album had 2 bonus songs, and one is “Free Man”. And you know about her “shelved” debut album, right?? And I know she sang backup, and maybe co-wrote, a song on Norwegian duo One 2 Many’s debut album from 1988. I also know she co-wrote a song on Carly Hennessy’s album “Ultimate High” called “All Kinds Of People”, and a coupla songs on the Tuesday’s self-titled album called “Changing The Moods” and “I Wish It Was Yesterday”. Here are some more that were extra tracks and/or B-sides of singles:
“Sweet Child ’O’ Mine” (Guns N Roses cover, on “Big Daddy” soundtrack)
“In Need” (OOPS, saw you have that one!!)
“Carolina”
“You Always Get Your Way”
“Straight To The Moon”
Now, if you love Sheryl, I HIGHLY recommend you check out Canadian artist AMANDA MARSHALL. Why?? Cuz she’s like a better version of Sheryl, and on her current 3rd album “Everybody’s Got A Story”, she even dabbles in hiphop!! I love her stuff, always have since her 1995 debut!!

i hate the cover on G n R song how dare she? she killed a masterpiece!

off-topic: I like Let It Rain by Amanda Marshall.
She´s popular in Norway btw :)
powerpoplarry said on February 15, 2003 08:45:
Actually Vaxjoe, I like Sheryl’s cover of “Sweet Child O’ Mine”, and you’ll be surprised, but Slash HATES SCOM!! It’s the song he wishes GN’R never did!! Um, I like GN’R, but Axl’s whining gets on my nerves, and he is a total fruitcake!! PLUS they stole Hanoi Rocks’ sound, and Michael Monroe has a MUCH better voice than Axl by a mile!!
And Stormkeeper, cool you dig Amanda!! I knew the first album was HUGE in Norway, but how did the 2nd and 3rd albums do?? I think the 3rd, “Everybody’s Got A Story” from 2001, is her best. Here in the US, they still release her records, but she is a total flop, what a shame!! I’m getting her DVD from Canada next week: “Everybody’s Got A Story-Live”, can’t wait!!
vaxjoe said on February 15, 2003 08:51:
no way! Sweet child of mine is a guns classic! i know slash didnt like it at the beginning (actually he didnt like his guitar solo he thought it was too childish) but then he liked it....u know in hard rock u dont have to be a singing god...its the way u sing the attitude...and i love axels way of singing...actually a friend o mine dated his manager and met him ...she told me hes really interesting and lonely person actually
now when i hear sheryls version i think im gonna see cowboys and horses jumpin in LOL
no GNR version is definately the one!
vaxjoe said on February 15, 2003 08:56:
u know how u listen to a song and u picture what the song is bout, why it is written? well she totally destroyed it for me :(
powerpoplarry said on February 15, 2003 08:58:
Yes, GNR made their mark initially with the song, and it is a classic, but I like Sheryl’s cover. I like covers that do something different with the song, and she did it. I’m not saying I like it BETTER, but GNR are no Hanoi Rocks. To be honest, I think GNR are kinda overrated really. They only had 2 great albums, with UYI in 2 parts. Granted, the 2 albums are classics, but there are better bands. Axl always bothered me, plus his whining grated on my nerves, yet he is unique, and his stuff on those albums is undeniable, definitely. But really, the guy is finished, based on what happened recently.
vaxjoe said on February 15, 2003 09:03:
yes i know it was a stupid idea they split up and i know its axls fault..cause he and slash together could do miracles...for me GnR made a difference in music and my life...overatted or not they did have some masterpieces...listen to “november rain” from their live cd or to Coma from USE...what an epic song! or Estranged..or Rocket queen....im not mentioning the classix cause we all know them...
Stormkeeper said on February 15, 2003 09:22:
@larry, both HR and MM has new albums out very recently.
powerpoplarry said on February 15, 2003 10:07:
Yes I know they do, Storm. And Vax, I know what they did was classic on those 2 albums, but Axl’s whining in itself I don’t like, yet it works in the band. They have done some epic songs, and I know they changed people’s lives. Still, to me, there are better bands, like AC/DC, and my newest discovery, the Juliana Theory...

thanks to Marcus & Larry!
I’ll hear some stuff by Amanda Marshall, but now sorry I just cannot believe it’s better version of Sheryl, lol... that hip-hop thingie sounds nice to me anyway , in which songs does she do it?
and about Sweet Child O’ Mine... well... I’m not gonna say a word about that one. I have it, yes.

coyboyusa said on February 15, 2003 17:37:

No prob!! Yes, Amanda is AWESOME!! Granted, Sheryl IS great, but at times she just gets sooooo...PREDICTABLE, know what I mean?? Amanda’s style is a bit fresher I think. Um, she dabbled with hiphop on her current album, “Everybody’s Got A Story”, espesh the title track and really on “Double Agent”, where she even namechecks Jay-Z!! All 3 of her albums are different from each other, and I love her new direction, however, it divided fans right down the middle, they love it or hate it, no inbetween. I love it, and I’m getting the live DVD this week from Canada, woohoo!!
Again, I dig Sheryl’s cover of “Sweet Child O Mine”. Amanda doesn’t have many covers in her repertoire. I only know of a Neil Young cover on a Neil tribute album in Canada, but that’s it.
i_jera said on February 16, 2003 15:49:
About Amanda Marshall - I’ve already heard some songs by her... they are really good, but for me Sheryl rocks, having in mind that she’s my favourite artist after Roxette & Marie solo (and sometimes after Alanis Morissette, but that depends a lot on the mood... not these days), and that I’m obsessed by Sheryl now, it’s almost impossible to like another artist more than her in the moment... it’s like someone tells you “this is like a better version of Roxette”, understand? ;) so, Amanda Marshall sounds great for me (from what I’ve heard) , but Sheryl is more... well, dunno what more, but it IS more, definitely ;) I just love her!
Stormkeeper said on February 24, 2003 22:30:
Did you see her (Sheryl) on Grammys? She looked SO Mariah Carey!! She´s very beautiful and photogenic woman.
powerpoplarry said on February 25, 2003 01:37:
Yes I saw Sheryl on the Grammys, performing “You’re An Original” with Kid Rock, very cool. She did look great, stylish even, but I was trying to defend her to a friend of mine, who thought she was either wearing a wig or had hair extentions!! Like WTF?? How could that be a wig, when her hair was pulled back, right??
Anyhoo, I recently got the Amanda DVD from Canada, and it is AMAZING!! The concert rocks, she has much more energy, gusto, originality and soul than Sheryl could ever muster, as good as Sheryl is, she’s a bit boring live, NOT AMANDA, no way, uhuh!! That woman is, like, all energy, all over the stage, full of fun and realness, just a magnetic stage presence!! Plus, she’s a killer bandleader, amazing!! The 2 videos are great fun (“Everybody’s Got A Story” and “Sunday Morning After”), the interviews, TV spots, making of the EGAS video and album are really in-depth, insightful, and really take you inside the creative process, plus you get to see what Amanda is really like as a person, really cool, and I respect her more now than I ever did before, which is a lot. She holds nothing back, she’s really honest and upfront about her upbringing and background (biracial, half caucasian Canadian, half-black Trinidadian, but yet, she is white-skinned, and blonde-haired, blue-eyed, a real double-agent!!), and she is really lively, intelligent, and funny-as-hell!! I love Amanda to death, and I had only met her briefly back in 1996!! I wish I knew her personally, cuz she is sooo dang cool!! She totally keeps it real.
I’m sure Sheryl is a cool person, she seems nice and I did pass by her on the street once, really tiny!! And she is musically talented, granted, great songwriter, muscian and producer, graet work she has done so far, but I just prefer Amanda’s work, to me, it’s fresher and more original. I think it’s soooo criminally overlooked in the US, and she coulda won some Grammys if EGAS was at all NOTICED here!! If MTV/VH1/BET played the EGAS video, it woulda turned many heads, it’s that kind of video...

Sheryl Crow is great!
She’s my favourite.She has not only an amazing voice but she’s very good songwriter as well,perfect musician and in my opinion she’s the most beautiful woman in the world.
I cannot agree with vaxjoe who says she played “Sweet Child O’mine” for failure,I find it better than the G’N R one!Sheryl is great fan of G’N R,that’s why she made a cover of this song.And she played it even better!
