keeps singing wrong?

is it just me or does Per tend to sing wrong alot when performing live?

I was just listening to the Vienna version! Afterwards I put on the Barca Showcase version and the band and Per and Marie sing at the exact point “Look Sharp” as Per and Marie do in the Vienna version...the band is wrong, not Per and Marie.
Listening to the original version of DFS “look sharp” comes up at the same point as it does in both of the live versions.. *keepsonwondering*

I think what he refers with this question is that Per lots of times changes the melody that he sings in the CD when singing live. But I don’t think this is “singing wrong”. This can be due to many factors...
First: If you don’t sing exactly the same you prove it’s not playback :D
Second: When you sing a concert is not the same as when you sing in a recording. In a recording a lot of takes are recorded and they many times even select the best lines from different takes. Sometimes even mastering engineers tune the vocals. There’s not the same tension, it’s a completely different situation much more relaxed in the recordings. This stress affects the body and so the voice and how it sounds. A long Tour also strains the voice to a point where singing the actual melody can be even dangerous, so it’s better to take it easy (Remember that Listen To Your Heart original is in Bm and the key is shifted twice during the song, while the live version is 1 tone lower and it’s not transported -in CBB Tour-... for the sake of Marie’s voice! The same as “It must have been love”, when it’s transported after the piano solo the key is shifted just 2 semitones -in Join The Joyride Tour- while in the recording is shifted 5 semitones!! (I think, musicians correct me :D).
So one of the reasons might be that singing that way it’s more comfortable for him and strain less his voice.
Third: I don’t know about you, but many times musicians thinks it’s even better to give the audience another point of view of that song (in other words, a different version). If you want to listen to the songs the same way they are recorded well... that’s why they are recorded, play them again :D I guess musicians like to think their songs are not static, that they aren’t dead, so they give them new life by playing differently and slightly changing the melodies. I guess they also tend to think that this is interesting for the listener, but well... I have a not so good memory of the version of “Runaway” (one of my favourite song) that the Corrs did Live in Madrid 1998... Caroline even made 2 mistakes with the piano :’(
Anyway I don’t think they perceive what you say wrong as an actual mistake, just a slight variation to keep the song alive. I think it’s much more serious to forget the lyrics than this. :)
(sorry for the long post)

Well, the “best” performace of Dressed For Success was definitely during the Barcelona gig they did to promote the Room Service album. Marie Started singing the first verse earlier, and there are 3 “Look Sharp!”-s in different parts of the songs...

Well, but there is 2 mistakes I’m used to remember always:
1 The way that Per sings “Knockin’ On Every Door” during the “Join The Joyride Tour” (even Marie jokes about it...).
2 When in the Oldemburg concert on 1989, Marie was singing “Paint” and sang “...can you feel the woman in me tonight...” and it was “...the heat in me tonight...”. The funny was that Marie sang the first phrase, of course did wrong, and Mia (Lindgren) who was doing the backing vocals sang the second phrase which was the right one... the result, a public confussion... But doesn’t matters... If that hadn’t had happened, we wouldn’t be talking about that at this moment...Greets!

“Ad lib” comes from latin “ad libitum” and means “at pleasure”, I think :p

In the video “Crash Boom Live” during the song The Rain you can hear that Marie forgets completely the lyrics. And on the screen you get to see her face... sooooooooo ashamed!!! :D Don’t worry Marie! ;)

Little Girl, very special edition, performed live, in Prague.
Little Marie completely forgot the lyrics. But still, it’s soooo nice the way she sings it.

I just remember “Stars” on the RS-tour in Berlin. Marie sang two times the same chorus, instead of the changed second one... but nobody noticed I think

I watched the scene yesterday from the CBB concert in Johannesburg.
She sings: I did my cry-out in THIS NORTHERN rain and not THE POURING rain..that’s all.
Sounds nice and fits to the first phrases of the song (-;

Why didnt they use the big screen in the RS tour to show the lyrics (karaoke style) so Pand M didnt stuff them up!!!
pietROxette said on February 13, 2003 12:47:
I think it’s Marie who forgets the lyrics more often.
However, they are both very good in singing the “Look Sharp!” part in Dressed For Success at a wrong time when performed live. I’ve listened to several Room Service Tour concerts... and many, many times, they said it at a wrong time. For example, in Vienna, both the crowd and the band were signing “for your love, yea yea yea”, but Marie and Per sang “Look Sharp!”. Check RoxBytes for more :-)
