Roxette in Greece

Hi all,
are there any other Greek fans in the forum? I hope I´m not the only one! What do you think of TBH success here? You can still find it at the lower end of the international albums chart...
roxgr said on February 6, 2003 13:49:
I agree. TBH was quite a success. ATAY receives also a bit of airplay in a couple of local radio stations (88FM, Capital, maybe Best Radio). By the way, I’m from Athens too.
nelina said on February 6, 2003 14:15:
Actually, I have heard ATAY olny three times in the radio stations here!
cskendras said on February 15, 2003 12:53:
many greets to my greek friends! I am also Greek living in Germany! :o)
powerpoplarry said on February 15, 2003 20:40:
Hey, I know Vaxjoe is Greek, surprised he didn’t post here!! I’m not Greek, I’m from New York, but I am a fan of Greece’s most famous female singer, Anna Vissi, though!! What’s up Nelina??
cskendras said on February 15, 2003 21:48:
@powerpoplarry: you know Anna Vissi??? Great :P and do you know kaiti garbi??
powerpoplarry said on February 16, 2003 08:43:
Yes I know Anna Vissi!! I discovered her music on a Sony Music International compilation, and her voice, style and looks blew me away!! Plus she’s hot, amazingly attractive!! As you can tell, I’m str8, LOL!! Yet, I can appreciate a really good singer, and she is the BOMB!! WOW!! I don’t understand a word of Greek, or how to even read the language, but I love her music. To me, language barriers don’t exist to enjoy music from other countries.
Um, I don’t know any other Greek singers, BUT Santi, I am also a fan of Spain’s best, hottest, female artist Monica Naranjo!! I know she’s recording an English album version of her “Chicas Malas” CD!! When is that coming out??
Santi said on February 16, 2003 10:52:
Uy, I don’t like her, she screams to much and grates on my nerves... :s
Look in http://www.monica-naranjo.com/ maybe they say something.
Stormkeeper said on February 16, 2003 12:34:
I like Eleni Menegoki, if i was st8 i propably would be in love with her lol.
roxgr said on February 17, 2003 08:06:
It‘s great to see that there quite some Greek fans around. From Greek artists I like Kwnstantinos B (among others).
nelina said on February 18, 2003 13:19:
I think there was another one a few months ago vaxjoe. Santi, how on earth do you know about Diafana Krina? Hello powerpoplarry, I’m ok!
roxgr said on February 18, 2003 14:45:
Anybody heard ON on the radio? It seems we haven’t got it here in Greece yet...
nickvrettos said on February 18, 2003 16:31:
hey guys keep up believing, we live in a country which knows or at least knew how to love roxette
nelina said on February 18, 2003 16:59:
Hello nick, are you new here? I have never seen you before. Roxgr, I haven’t heard ON and I really don’t know if the radios here have it!
cskendras said on February 18, 2003 17:43:
i thought greece has just got ATAY, so why should they play ON already?! i hope, i’m wrong :o)
nelina said on February 18, 2003 18:38:
No, we had ATAY at the same time with the whole of Europe. It is already “old” here. It didn’t get much airplay anyway.
powerpoplarry said on February 19, 2003 04:31:
Hey Nelina!! How are you?? :-) Um, here in the US, most people haven’t heard ATAY, as TBH is not being released here until April 22nd, nor is it added to any radio station here!! Our radio stations are really bad in America. Nelina, you would get sick just from the playlists, yuck!! I just listen to my CDs, and what’s on the net. I feel glad I’m ahead of everyone else here in New York, while they’re stuck listening to the same old crap, haha!! Anyhoo, Nelina, wanna stay in touch?? I’m a nice, single, str8, American guy from New York...let me know, you seem very nice. ;-)
vaxjoe said on February 19, 2003 04:36:
cskendras u are wrong: ATAY and TBH were released AGES ago..same date with Sweden! Its only UK and USA that just got ATAY
i dont understand how u got that idea, havent u read on TDR that TBH and ATAY are released the same day all over Europe except UK? We are Europe if u havent noticed
roxgr said on February 19, 2003 07:45:
ATAY was released 3 months ago on Greek radio but almost nobody noticed as the major Greek radio stations didn’t play it. TBH was available 2 weeks later than the official release date. But as you already know, it was successful in the Greek International albums chart.
royalball said on February 19, 2003 08:10:
Uh...well I saw “My big fat Greek Wedding” a lot of people liked it...buy I didn’t like it.
vaxjoe said on February 19, 2003 08:14:
royalball: i hate that film!! grrr...actually its not bout greeks its bout greekamericans blah! its so fake!!! i hate the way the represent us...
royalball said on February 19, 2003 08:20:
I just realized something. As a matter of fact I saw that movie with Lars. I’m just not into the movies like I used to be when I was a kid. I’m the worst movie critic.
Anarem said on February 19, 2003 09:30:
Actually, My Big Fat Greek Wedding is about Greek-Canadians– the writer, and star of the movie is from my hometown, and it was based on her experiences growing up in Winnipeg. They just set it in Chicago to make it more marketable:-) :-)
I haven’t been to Greece lately, but I know it is a very modern country (even with the ancient monuments and all) so I can understand why some Greeks from Greece cringe at the stereotypes depicted in the film. However, it is an very good depiction (though a little exaggerated) of what life like is like growing up in an “ethnic” environment when everybody around you is “normal”– you can substitute Chinese, Jewish, Filipino East Indian in the title and it’s all the same movie.
Generally, Greek-North Americans have a more sentimental view of the land of their forefathers, pretty much like the Irish– on this side of the ocean, the Irish celebrate St. Patrick’s Day like it’s Christmas but in Ireland, it’s not as big a deal.
vaxjoe said on February 19, 2003 09:39:
Anarem u know what i really hate? when those greekamericans or greekcanadians say that they re more greek than us! i despise that! We grew up here we served the army we have been all through the difficulties that my country has been...they chose the other way, to go abroad make money and they dont even speak greek as the 1st language and that hurts me...so dont tell me how they see it so sentimental etc...they re abroad cause of the money and they see a Greece as nice summer holiday place.
roxgr said on February 19, 2003 09:54:
I remember taliking to Greek American tourists in Santorini a couple of years ago. It seems that people in theis 50s-60s have really very weird ideas. They talk and act like they did here in the 1960s. And the way they talk is really funny. I hope the younger ones are not behaving like that.
nelina said on February 19, 2003 14:13:
powerpoplarry, my e-mail is in my settings. So I’m waiting for a mail.
Vaxjoe and roxgr, I agree with you partly. My grandpa lives in Canada, and my two uncles were born there. They are in their 30’s now and trust me they don’t feel at all Greek, unlike my grandpa!!!!!
Anarem said on February 20, 2003 01:19:
@vaxjoe:
I don’t know where you get the idea that some Greeks on this side of the ocean are more “Greek” than the ones living in Greece, but the Greeks I know (my friends are in their 20s and 30s) don’t consider themselves “more Greek”– they’re Canadian, first and foremost. To them, being “Greek” is a source of pride, and a lot of them do feel a sadness that they no longer speak the language, or never learned it, but in the scheme of things, to them it’s no big deal, because they’re born and raised Canadian.
powerpoplarry said on February 20, 2003 06:25:
Nelina, I just emailed you... I guess this whole Greece Greek vs Greek Americans, Greek Canadians, etc, it all has to do with pride, and being cultured I guess. I’m not Greek, but I am Jewish, not religious, and it’s like a sense of where you come from, I guess. I mean, I’m American, but never been to Israel.
vaxjoe said on February 20, 2003 13:43:
nelina-anarem: thanks i made my point, no need to say more :o)
Anarem said on February 21, 2003 00:58:
@vaxjoe:
I do see your point, I was only showing you mine. Cheers!
nelina said on February 6, 2003 13:15:
You are not alone. I’m from Athens. Are you new here? I think that TBH was quite a success here. I didn’t expect that.
