LOVE IS ALL - ODE TO KURT GESSLE?

That’s what I read in Portuguese version of R2R forum.

Someone wrote there that LIA it’s a hommage from Per to his father. There’s a venue in Rio de Janeiro, called Metropolitan where Roxette played in 1995, and the person who wrote it said that Per was crying in the end of the song and marie held him, then...does anybody know anything about it?

But, anyway...I think Per’s history it’s something that turns him a very magnetic personality. For all he has done until get to his place now, I guess his father would be proud (specially with this very recent medal). And for all he suffered, too...his opening act in the big life stage had a sad number right after...if only he got more close, I guess he would be even more admired...I mean, sometimes he looks so distant from all...world, fans, common life...or is it just a feeling?

aaw! if it is then thats so sweet.

i cant believe per cried on stage, thats so sweet. aaw!

You see, everyone haves bad moments ;)

i dont think its a bad moment... i think its very sweet. i woulda cried... but then again, love is all generally does make me cry.... its one of the best songs ever

This does not sound true at all...

Per is so sweet! ... and Marie is sweet for supporting him!
I thought it was sad that Per’s father never got the chance to know about his fame.

——-

Also, at first I was confuse with the title of this discussion. I thought it was ’KURT RUSSEL’, and I thought what??? ... then I realised it was GESSLE.
I think the two s (eses) and e’s must have confused me.

How long before his INTERNATIONAL fame did his father die?

about 20 years

@erweetiran
I’m not sure....
But I read before that his father died when Per was 19. He was just starting to be succesfull as a musician.
So, his father died when he was just starting to become famous in his homeland.

Poor Per =(

Per’s father died 1 day before Mats Olsson, a Swedish journalist that later wrote the book Ensamma Pojkarna (The Lonely Boys), published in Expressen the first article ever written about Gyllene Tider, under the title of “Svensk rock mot Gyllene Tider?” (Swedish rock to Golden Times?)
That happened in May 1978, so that’s about 10 years before Roxette became well known internationally. (According to the book Gyllene Tider by Jan-Owe Wikström, pages 26 to 28).

Well, I’ve always thought that “Love is All” is like an ode to love, or a hymn, something like this, and that it’s not dedicated to anyone in particular...but who knows (Well, Per knows it, that’s for sure :))

If he cried when performing that song, it could be because he was emotionated with the audience or something. That kind of things happen.

For example, in the Madrid concert of “C!B!B!” tour, when Per was going to introduce the band, everone started clapping and singing “Oeeee oee oeeee, Roxette, Roxetteeeeeee” each time that Per was going to speak, and it happened during five or more minutes. As I was standing near the front row, I could see a very happy Per, so happy that some tears fell down from his eyes.

He (and Marie) are the best. Those things are enough proof to me.

I agree. Sometimes you get so emotional.
Even I get so emotional just watching a movie.

Sorry, but I don’t think that this song is dedicated to his father. It sounds more like a love song. Moreover I doubt that he would release such a song on a Roxette album. In my opinion someone has invented a stupid story.

Hmmm...dunno...but Per’s faith in God, is something more mystical than linked to some religion. He prays sometimes, as he declared once, so he is an...hmmm...well, spiritualist, occasinal religious...someone that believes in principles than personalities of religion...so even if he doesn’t believe in a God, or gods, he believes in spiritual values...

I’m saying it ’coz some lyrics of Love is All are near to that...when someone dedicates (secretly - it’s revealed only later) a song to someone, the whole song isn’t dedicated to that person, but some lines are. Like in the case of I was so lucky - it is dedicated to Gabriel...and you can identify where - I sat up all night, just to watch your smile, when you’re sleeping — Nothing will remain, nothing stays the same after you came — But some other ones aren’t - It’s no secret I’ve been starving, never felt anything for years (and Asa? So, that’s just a lyric filler phrase).

In love is all (maybe the title itself it is something that his father taught him) you find - Shine your light, shine on me — like if Per believed his father is in Heaven, even don’t believing expressly in a God – Higher love radiates on us all — love from a divine creature? Well, it’s, I guess, that kind of disguised inspiration.

@tinytim

I think that you are wrong on the I was so lucky lyric filler. I think the love you share with your child and the love you share with your wife is 2 different things and as I am sure that if someone is asked to choose between his wife or husband or his/her children, i’m sure almost all will choose there children over there partners, so the line with it’s no secret i’ve been starving is very valid, because only when the child comes you realise what you have been missing out on

didnt per simply say that love is all is about god and christianity

I never heard about that Love is all is about Kurt Gessle. So I don´t know...

I just know that “Bla Dezember” from Per´s Soloalbum “Scener” is dedicated to his father. Or maybe even the whole album (and Viskar is for Asa)...

Right, the album is dedicated to his father!

tinytim, you’re horribly rational! ;-P

Per said once (I read it in some article in swedish magazine) that he could lose all money but he would never image what he should do if something happen to Asa or Gabriel. So, I think both of them are on the same line important for him.
And to the topic: I don´t think Love is all wrote Per for his father...
