TWATGessle

Edited the following day:
Sorry I didn´t mean to call him a twat, it was kinda accident, I didn´t even realized my topic looks like “Twat Gessle” until some of you gave me some feedback about my subject.
And here´s my original message:
Am I the only one who thinks this album is a big disappointment?
Lame songs, corny lyrics. And Per is definitely not the greatest singer in the world :(
Anyway amazon.com reviewers (fans) gave this album 4.5 stars out of 5.
Maybe I just have to listen and listen and listen to this album again and again.
Per you can make better!
kingboul said on February 4, 2003 19:24:
Well, I think this album is pretty cool...Fresh, catchy...
About the lyrics, you’re right, but how many songs were written by Per with “meaning” lyrics ???
Jackeill said on February 4, 2003 20:10:
yes it’s big disappointment cos i would give 10 stars out of 5 instead! Stormkeeper what a pity you haven’t been caught by twatg like all the rest...
for me it’s the best album in the world and nothing is gonna change my mind!
maybe i’m just fool....... twatg rules !
Ferdan said on February 4, 2003 20:49:
I heard in CNN that people that didn’t like TWAGT had a low IQ :)))
ChrisWilliams said on February 4, 2003 20:57:
I don’t own that album... Shoot me :-O
I have the Roxette albums... I live in the UK...
Even so, I wanted to see why you were calling Per a twat.
:-D
Santi said on February 4, 2003 21:13:
Even my brother that doesn’t like Roxette asks me for that CD pretty often. It’s just great!!!
Denstandigaresan said on February 4, 2003 21:22:
ChrisWilliams, you don’t own TW*TG? UNFORGIVABLE! ;);)
I took it along when I met Per and Marie in London. I handed the album to Per, he looked at me, looked at the album sleeve, back at me and held the sleeve up slightly and said in shocked amazement, “Oh, you have my album??!!” Hehehe!
I’ve copied the album for roxers who don’t have it, and they have all so far been impressed!
Tarazzul said on February 4, 2003 22:11:

TWATG.... rocks... I can still remember when I first bought it!!!
KixGuy said on February 4, 2003 22:26:
The World According To Gessle is my all time favorite album! It is so great. And, coincidently, I’m listening to it right now, the track is Reporter. What a great collection of powerpop songs!!
felicity-brown said on February 4, 2003 22:33:
@ storm: You callin Gessle a twat?! Kick some arse, Per!! ;)
gyllene_tjej said on February 4, 2003 22:37:
guess it is a matter of taste, but I am among these who claim it is fabulous and rocky!!! I luv Stupid, can’t wait for the Pophits version ;)
Tarazzul said on February 4, 2003 22:38:
@KixGuy: I agree with you TWATG is one of my favorite CDs but for me its not a “powerpop”-collection. Its Rock - not Hard Rock, not Heavy Metall - just pure (Gessle-) Rock.
eduard33 said on February 4, 2003 22:56:
Stormkeeper!
You’ve certainly got wrong CD in TWATG case. Otherwise you’d love it!
powerpoplarry said on February 4, 2003 23:13:
Yes you are Stormkeeper!! Shame on you for thinking the album sucks AND calling Per a TWAT too, DOH!! Honestly, I think it’s one of THE most perfect powerpop albums EVER made, just pure bliss!! Yes it’s on the hard-edged rock side of powerpop, but it’s a perfect example of great powerpop, in the tradition of Cheap Trick, 60s Who, and many others. As Per says, it’s a tribute to his record collection, and I must say, that is SOME collection he has indeed!!
I actually prefer this album to Roxette’s albums!! The only one that comes close is “Room Service”. But I don’t have any of Gyllene Tider’s CDs or Per’s 1st two solo albums, or Marie’s solo work either YET, but that will soon change, when I get the money. That GT box is $75 and change on Amazon.com, the 80s Per box is $62, and Marie’s box is $79 + hits collection (with 2 songs not on the box) is $38. Like I said, when I get the cash....
powerpoplarry said on February 4, 2003 23:15:
OOPS, I forgot, my 2 fave songs on the album are “Do You Wanna Be My Baby” and “Reporter”, just killer powerpop TUNES!! YOWZA!! Just pop it on in the car, put the top down and go!! Powerpop PERFECTION!!
And you MUST own this album, it’s Per at his most rocking perfection!! I bought mine at the Virgin Megastore in NYC for $27.99, and you can still get one off Amazon.com!! Again, Per has hooks up his ASS and he always has a knack for nailing the perfect chorus and cool-ass riffs + guitarsounds. Unlike Roxette, who’s albums rely on keyboards and technology, along with guitars, Per’s solo albums sounds as if he recorded it with a rocking band of friends in his garage!! This is better, if you ask me, more human, with soul, not deceptively soulless. To be honest, it’s a better sound, and I kinda wish ALL of Roxette’s CDs had this sound, as it’s more honest, it’s not trendy, more timeless, and much more exciting and natural. In 20 years, this album will still sound fresh, hooky and exciting. It sounds like a labour of love really!! In the end, one of the greatest albums of the past 10 years!! Really!! :-) Per rocks!!
Oh, and I had Per sign my copy of “The World According To Gessle”, as well as my Lonely Boys CD and Roxette Japanese CDs, and he seemed happy that I had a copy. I told him I thought it was great, perfect powerpop, and he felt honoured!! It was the truth, if you ask me!!
Oh and the “weird” hidden track is really a bachelor-pad version of “Kix”, with the words spoken/sung by what sounds like an Elvis imitator, haha!! I think it’s a funny way to end the album really. Per has a wicked sense of humour!!

First I didn´t get why you´re blaming me for calling Per a twat, it took some time for me... heh. Ooops, I didn´t mean that way!
Seems I AM the only one who is not so into this album, you all disagree!
Galning said on February 5, 2003 17:04:
For me TWATG is THE BEST ALBUM EVER!!! I think it´s really Gessles best work, and the 2nd is “The Lonely Boys”...
Galning said on February 5, 2003 17:08:
by the way: as many other fans said before: TWATG could have been the best Roxette album - if it would be a roxette album...
it´s not often that a Rox-Fan doesn´t like it....
rox-kuryliw said on February 5, 2003 20:18:
TWATG is per NOT ROXETTE , it not that good, some great tracks like kix, wish you the best. you not roxette.
roxette is 50% marie 50% per . its simple. no marie on it , apart from one song a little.
Stormkeeper said on February 5, 2003 20:31:

StillFar: I don´t hate this album. It´s just my least favorite. Thank you for sharing this feeling :)
Some of people here are trying to make me sound like I´m trashing Per. They are so wrong.
Paul said on February 5, 2003 20:41:
Everyone doesnt have to like it.
You can love PG’s work anyway.
I think the album is good. But songs like Elvis in Germany...no. But I like PG anyway.
tinytim said on February 5, 2003 21:57:
If it’s Per it’s Roxette, then...
For me, TWATG is the improved continuation of CBB...I mean, improved on what we could expect....it’s 10.
rox-kuryliw said on February 5, 2003 22:40:
tiny tim how can you say per is roxette when marie sings most of the songs, and biggest hits lol
it 50 / 50
Jackeill said on February 5, 2003 22:55:
@rox-kuryliw: all the hits are sung 50% by marie and 50% by per. but notice, that almast all songs are written by per. all hits are written by per. per sings and plays. telling truth marie is st like “add-on” to pers song and it is roxette...
i’d say: roxette = 85%per, 10% marie, 5% clarence and all the rest....
dizzydaleks said on February 5, 2003 23:25:
stormkeeper - If u think I was trying to criticise your taste, I apologise - I would never do that! I love TWATG, but I don’t expect everyone to! One of the main things I like is that for a self proclaimed balloon and ice cream writer, Per goes semi-political with T-T-Take It. Plus, I can’t help but smile at who the reporter wants to interview :)

as Per said : Roxette =Marie singing catching tunes that Per writes so Rox is nothing without per or marie
therefore roxette= 50% marie 50% per :)

Oh look, I wondered how long it would take before this turned into an argument!
No matter what way you write it, it’ll always come out as Tw*t!! Someone surely must have pointed this out to Mr.G? LOL! Aah... unless he’s trying to tell us something?? ;) Hmm..*Strokes chin*.
Mfan28179-Jason said on February 6, 2003 04:18:
Fantastic album! On first listen, I was a bit insure. But it totally grew on me! It’s a shame though that “Love Doesn’t Live Here” was limited to the Japan release only. I think it would have added an extra push to the album if it was released on all versions. I think it’s one of his best songs.
powerpoplarry said on February 6, 2003 09:21:
Well, honestly, Roxette is 85% Per, 10% Marie, 5% Clarence. Why?? Cuz, Per wrote 95% of the songs himself, and he plays the majority of instruments. Marie’s solo style apparently sounds NOTHING like Roxette, more like Annie Lennox. The songs have Per’s personality and writing style, more than Marie’s, except on maybe, ballads. And Clarence produced the records, so there’s his 5%. Yes, M+P’s voices blend well, but Per dominates the songs, in his writing, playing, singing and harmonies. PLUS, all the upbeat hits they have had, Per either sang LEAD, co-lead or he harmonized on the choruses. Soooo, I’ve always thought Roxette was Per’s baby, NOT Marie’s, that Per dominated Roxette, NOT the other way around!! Nothing against Marie, I think she’s a great, wonderful singer, but I wish Per got most of the credit, AND I wish all of Roxette’s records sounded like TWATG. Strip off the techno stuff, let the guitars dominate and record them all in Per’s garage with minimal overdubs. Overproduction tends to make records sound dated. TWATG is pop done right, with guitars cranked up, perfectly catchy hooks, excellent songwriting with a fun, sunny side, harmonies to die for...exactly what TWATG was!!
Basically, Marie is great in her role, BUT if it wasn’t for Per, there’d BE no Roxette, or their many hits, as they came from Per’s hands!! If they wanted an EVEN partnership, have a third Per-written songs, done in his garagey power-pop style, a third Marie-written songs, done in her blue, jazzy, moody style, and a third co-written by both of them, with a fusion of their styles. Know what I mean?? If not, it’s Per’s baby all the way, and let them all be done the way of TWATG or RS, which is close in spirit to TWATG, powerpop all the way!!
Ferdan said on February 6, 2003 09:46:
“he plays the majority of instruments”
Now that killed your entired post, appart from other few flawed things you said....
like the armonies thingy..., Marie is the vocal arranger in most of the Roxette songs for example not Per.
And there’s more... but oh well..... don’t wanna be mean
rox-kuryliw said on February 6, 2003 11:30:
marie would of done it without per. marie is the face of roxette, i leave it on that note, ill gone for ever LOL.
Ferdan said on February 6, 2003 12:10:
no, Marie wouldn’t have done it without Per..... nor Per without Marie.
You think Marie with her “really catchy” songs could get 4 number ones in the not very nice US market?.... i don’t think, her music is not very commercial you know.... plus Marie can’t speak or write english as she’d like or need :P
Plus Per is really into the biz tricks.... and Marie not so much... maybe not at all.
rox-kuryliw said on February 6, 2003 14:31:
quality of the songs not how many !! you can run off. duet with elton my opin LOL
Twilight-Ghost said on February 6, 2003 15:54:
Can we stop this???
I just don’t like it if people are comparing Per and Marie. They are both great and they both contribute to their band Roxette.
Roxette is Per and Marie!!!
I totally disagree with most people here.
Neither Per nor Marie would have done it without the other. They need each other for Roxette.
They complete each other (with Roxette) and shouldn’t compete with each other. It’s partnership not a competition.
Galning said on February 6, 2003 17:13:
Stormkeeper: Why did you ask the question “do I have to love it to please you?” ??? It´s kindergarden-stuff...
I think you can´t say Roxette is 50 % Per and 50% Marie... it´s something you can´t say in percent. It is Art and not a 50 % of a company... of course it´s a company too (because it´s also about money...). When we talk about singing maybe it´s 80 % Marie. But when we talk about Songwriting it´s 99% Per. But that doesn´t mean that Roxette is “Per Gessle Solo” with the voice of Marie. I have worked together with different musicians (also as a songwriter) and it´s different with who you work together... you see, you can´t say it in percent%%%%...
Again: Noone have to love TWATG. Everyone should do what he likes and listen to what he likes. Where is the problem? Why such questions like “do I have to love it to please you?” just because I said that many rox-fans like TWATG?!
But nice to see that people starts to make lists with Roxette songs again :-) *ggg*
Stormkeeper said on February 6, 2003 18:48:
I said it because I was (nearly) being attacked.
What has it to do with kindergarden??
This topic is in the end now. No more to say.
Peace.
powerpoplarry said on February 7, 2003 07:21:
NAH, sorry about the analyses. Basically, Roxette is a partnership between Per and Marie. No competition, no breakdown of percentages. It’s a partnership that works and got them international fame. Bottom line.
In the end, though, I dig Per’s rocking powerpop style which dominates Roxette and his solo album TWATG, yet he has a ballad side as well, which doesn’t show up as much.
It’s just that, what bothers me most, is people in the US think Roxette is Marie only, and that Roxette is her name, and that all they do are ballads, when in reality, powerpop dominates their repertoire, and I wish the punchy catchy guitar loudness was the sound that dominates Roxette’s records, not keyboards and technology, but the songs and records are all good. I am happy that RS came out the way it did, as it’s a step in the right direction: a guitar powerpop core, with the right amount of keyboards sprinkled on top, and the production just right, not overdone, or lo-fi. A nice step after TWATG, a rearranging of the priorities, if you will, like TWATG teaching them a lesson or something, haha!!
Peace!!

i_jera said on February 15, 2003 00:13:
TWTG is by Gessle. it *could* be Rox album (hmm... I love that idea... but anyway, that’s not the point now) , but, you see, Per decided to do these song solo, so it’s Per solo... and IMHO that album rocks!!
before some time I didn’t like it at all ... now, after buying it /and with this, getting the possibility to listen to it carefully & many times, after a long “break”/ I just love it, seems I’ve changed. still, some memories about my previous opinion on Reporter appear on my mind sometimes... I just couldn’t stand that song, and some others also, exc. kiX,... but kiX’s another story... it’s my all-time favourite song.
Galning said on February 15, 2003 08:26:
