Here in South East Asia there is a big band from Pakistan namely “Strings”. They don’t sing English songs but the language is understood all around the South East Asia. They have a song “KHIRKI” (WINDOW,) in their last album (which was a super duper hit). It sounds tooooooooooo much gessleish. It is a very beautifull song but it is too much like Roxette. If anyone is interested I can find a link to the file or like download it from KAZAA and put it up for you on a server.

WHAT WOULD HAPPEN / MEREDITH BROOKS (could be a marie or roxette song, very chillin’)
go to: http://www.meredithbrooks.com and listen to some files at the discography-link! she sounds really a bit like marie and her music is not that far away of roxette’s style. check it out!

@Zee, yes provide us with a link!!! PS. I like a Pakistan song called Piya!!!

Queen - Driven by you... according to my dad it’s really like The Big L. or that kind of Rox songs.
pietROxette said on December 27, 2002 21:02:
Meredith Brooks is AWESOME! Finally there is someone who knows her! I have all her albums, full of excellent songs! Really, really recommended for Roxette fans!
I also find some Catatonia songs pretty Roxette-ish...
karmakillernz said on December 28, 2002 07:19:
Ferdan: Driven By You is technically not a Queen song, but a Bryan May song. It’s a good song though :)
Pietro: I can’t really see the Catatonia <>Roxette similarity, but I do have two Catatonia albums and enjoy them both. Also, although I havn’t heard much of Meredith Brooks, I do like what i’ve heard. :)

That song from the Sugababes: “Stronger”. I wish it was a roxette song.
tinytim said on December 28, 2002 10:53:
Yeah, Shania Twain also has a track in her Come on Over album, called “I want you to hold me” that sounds like those secondary Roxette songs from the golden times...
Isn’t there any black music band with a track that gets close to what they do? ’Cause the inclusion of “I never loved a man...” in the Unplugged soundtrack makes me believe that they appreciate this kind of song, and then, they also write songs that way (“Heart of Gold” and “So you wanna be...” are really Roxettish).
I guess I should had include those Roxettism traces matter above the music field in this thread, too...like, for example...who dresses like P&M, too? (including actors and actresses)
Just as a small reference, if you ever watched to Sandra Bullock’s “Murder by Numbers” (hateable film, but...): one of movie’s villains, the richie and posh blonde guy...really reminds me Per (in his actual slim stage) a lot.
BTW, Andrew McCarthy also reminds me him.
And Lea Thompson, Marty McFly’s mother in “Back to the Future” reminds me Marie...
I know that’s not Roxettish, but it’s indirectly inside the context, I guess...

Hey, you forgot “Rock my life” and i think that “maria” from Blondie is very much roxettish!
At least, Blondie is one of Gessle‘s songwriterroots!

Hmmm...maybe Billy Idol’s super-hit “Dancing with myself”??
tinytim said on December 30, 2002 14:37:
And...how could I forget the most famous Rush’s ballad...that one, hmmm...what’s the damn name...the chorus says: “The innocence slips away...(repeat)...time stands still...”

Does Lea Thompson look like Marie? Wow, that’s why I watch “Caroline in the city”. It’s terrible, but I can’t help but watch it every day .lol...
I’ve watched “Murder by numbers” ( Cálculo Mortal, in Brazil) and I can’t remember it very well. I’ve gone to the movies with two Rox fans and we couldn’t find any similarity between the blond guy and Per. I only remember the other boy looked like Leonardo DiCaprio.:-)

Well, he isn’t exactly a clone, but he reminds me him, too...the posh clothes, the chin, the way he poses...it’s Gessle-ish. I don’t mean the traces, but his way, in an entire...

“Turn Back Time” by Aqua is a Roxette ballad (a good one, by the way :D)

That ’First time, first love’ song from the coca cola commercial. Can’t remember the artist. Robin Beck or something...??
powerpoplarry said on February 13, 2003 09:23:
Actually, AQUA’s “Turn Back Time” sounds like “Being Boring” by the Pet Shop Boys, same melody on the chorus!! I’m surprised they were never sued, AQUA!!
The Corrs’ “Breathless” and “Up!” by Shania Twain are very similar in melodic hooks, and yes, both aere powerpop tunes, so they sound like Roxette. The whole “Up!” album sounds Roxette-ish, she’s NOT a country artist at all, she’s powerpop, and that’s her roots too, NOT country!! Check out her Limelight Sessions CD for proof, from 1989-1990!!
Um, Roxette is powerpop with a Europop tinge, so any powerpop band is bound to be simialr to Roxette, and also very catchy Europop, like AQUA or Daze, whom I love!!
I never thought Catatonia was like Roxette at all!! I can go on and on about powerpop bands, believe me!!
tinytim said on February 17, 2003 15:50:
I’ve been thinking about lyrics, single phrases even, that are Roxette-ish or Gessle-ish, actually:
I guess that “You know I work all day / To get you money to buy you things” from Beatles’ “I wanna hold your hand” is quite Gessle-ish, quite “Satuday”-ish...
Does anyone hav another reference?
squigger said on February 19, 2003 00:50:
Well, Belinda Carlise’s Always Breaking My Heart and Love Doesn’t Live Here pretty much are Roxette songs (Per wrote them, and the Roxette band performed ABMH - it was Roxette without Marie).
They’re on A Woman and a Man for anyone who is interested.
squigger said on February 19, 2003 00:52:
Actually, thinking about it, a lot of Belinda Carlisle’s songs (the ones by Rick Nowels) sound a bit like Per’s style.

@Stormkeeper> Just listen to Physical Fascination and to some of Pearls of Passion and LS! pop tunes, and then you tell me.

The actual single of Anastacia has the same intro as the RUN TO YOU-Demo! (Like Celine Dion’s That’s the way it is has before)!
And the new Shania Twain-song KA-ACHING - I don’t know if that’s the correct title! Why can’t ervery song has such easy titles as Opportunity Nox? ;o) - sounds ROXETTE-ISH!

Does anyone know the song NATURAL HIGH from Marc Sway? It’s on my radio right now, sounds very ROXETTE-ISH like it’s written by Per! And it would sound better if Per would sing it!!!
Cheers

I always get myself to notice some songs that sound really Roxette-style...maybe you’ll disagree, but I list some:
Poison Heart - Ramones (obviously...)
When Tomorrow Comes - Eurythmics
If it makes you happy - Sheryl Crown
Lady Starlight, Always Somewhere, Rythm of Love -Scorpions
Girls on Film - Duran Duran
Can anyone add something?
