MTVE: Roxette the biggest band off the North?
animalkingdom said on December 12, 2002 21:04:
MTVE.com is running a poll as of Dec 12th asking “Is Roxette the biggest band ever to come out from the Nordic countries?
Apparently the situation is 19% yes - 81% no.
Oddly enough, mtve.com run the same poll FIVE days ago (Dec 7th) with the following result 50-50. What are they - stupid?!

You can’t really compare ABBA with Roxette! Especially not the number of sold albums!
It was another time!
animalkingdom said on December 12, 2002 21:41:
Oh no... Here we go again with the sales figures!
So you can’t support Roxette on this topic because of some formal matters, huh?!
I bet ppl who have voted ’no’ are teenagers who are more into groups like Kent or HIM.

techincally by way of sales figues, number of albums and how long they have been together..roxette are the biggest band from scandinavia..none of abbas original 8 studio albums sold more than i think 2 million copies...most of abbas current success has been through reissues
Anarem said on December 13, 2002 03:58:
Sales of albums and statistics aside, when you go out and ask Joe Average on the street who is the biggest band ever to come out of Scandinavia, he would most likely say “ABBA”. As much as I love Marie and Per, it’s the cold, hard truth– ABBA is the biggest band to come from the Nordic countries.
They were the pioneers who proved that English didn’t have to be your first language to conquer the world, and they were the ones who paved the way for other Swedish bands like Roxette.

Yes, but Europe were never really huge. I mean, okay, they had like one massive hit, but that’s it.
We can not really compare Abba to Roxette, wait another 10-20 years, and then compare Roxette Status then, with Abba’s Status now. Roxette had bigger Tours than Abba... or did Abba ever play in front of more than 80.000 Fans at just one single concert??? Well, Roxette have!
Anyways, where is the link??? I want to vote as well!

how can someone think that ABBA sold 350 millons of records??????????
Anybody knows the music industry numbers?????????????
We know that the biggest band on earth were the beatles and they never reached that number of sales.
I know that ABBA was really Big... but is impossible to sell 350 millonssssssss, just think that the fab four some year ago were on 240 millons..... it’s just a number taken from the rolling stone magazine.. i do not think that Abba sells better than Beatles
tevensso (moderator) said on December 13, 2002 13:09:
ABBA has sold 250 or 350 mill. records, The Beatles way more, and Elvis has sold about a billion. So it is possible. :)
Th_Th said on December 13, 2002 13:24:
Interesting Link!
Actually, I heard that the Music industry lost all the sale figures of Roxette, but it is estimated, that Roxette sold aprox. 243 Million CD’s!!
coyboyusa said on December 13, 2002 13:34:
thats a cumulative figure including cd singles...imbl sold a million copies..as did the look, joyride and ltyh
JoyRidErno said on December 13, 2002 14:10:
Th_Th: The Final Countdown was big hit, but it didn’t end up #1 in U.S. Carrie was #1. So they had at least 2 hits;) And there is also Rock The Night....
Markuz said on December 13, 2002 15:33:

HOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO... snif...
Now that was funny...
Santi said on December 13, 2002 15:52:
I bet The Look and It Must Have Been Love never sold 1 million “CD”...
roxtexanet said on December 13, 2002 18:39:
Not sure what’s so funny... after Roxette have been around 30 years and had a chance to release a thousand reissues, remasters, box sets, special editions, remastered special editions, greatest hits, not-so-greatest hits, special boxed greatest hit compilation sets etc. etc. etc. they might outsell ABBA...
Pascal said on December 13, 2002 18:48:
c’mon, be a bit realistic. Roxette will not sell more than 50 mio full albums.
roxtexanet said on December 13, 2002 20:18:
@Pascal: Why not?? Everything once popular experiences a “revival” again... why not a band that was so successful all over the world like Roxette was, in a future generation? I’d sure as hell put money on a Roxette revival than on a New Kids on the Block revival! Of course, Roxette can’t be “revived” right now since they’re still making music (and well, and selling well, too).
Alesvenska said on December 14, 2002 00:21:
Roxette is big enough and I do love them but ABBA is the biggest most copied pop group that ever was in the world whether you like it or not, they were the only ones who oversold the beatles
Ferdan said on December 14, 2002 00:33:
hey... roxette sold 55millions

Example: In the past, 250.000 was gold, nowadays it is 50.000.
Ferdan said on December 14, 2002 01:05:
that’s cos i think it was easier to sell albums in the past than what it is in the present...
japeke said on December 14, 2002 01:12:
Yep, and that means roxette HASN’T sold nearly 250 million albums throughout the years, that papparazi story is BULLCRAP
coyboyusa said on December 14, 2002 19:36:
imbkl sold 1 million copies
the look about 900,000
joyride 1 million
animalkingdom said on December 14, 2002 20:13:
@ coyboyusa
Excuse me, but you are wrong..The Look is Roxette’s BIGGEST hit sales-wise. This is what Per himself says. Selling 500,000 copies in the U.S. alone and topping the charts in close to 30 countries already suggests it must have sold more than you’re saying.. I’d say 3 M is more like it!
roxbeliever said on December 15, 2002 16:58:
I like ABBA but, japeke is right –if before 250 000 were gold and now 50 000 are gold so we can say that Roxette sold 5x55=275 mln...:-))
ofcourse nothing is so simple, but ... ABBA were on the right place on the right time...
1.they catch the time when the pop rulls
2.they catch the technical revolution in the music business
lets be honest- some of you have all ABBA’s albums on 1.vinyl 2.on audiotype 3.on CD 4. DVD
3.now the music business is down
there so many reason for that...
some of the them are:
TV
today we have lots of 24 hours Music TV- to watch tv is much better than to listen CD
internet and PC–not just becouse of free downloading, but becouse of the way of living- i personally spend almoust all of my free time on the internet or in front of the PC doing something else like makeing program or playing PC games for example..
so THE CD as way of ENTERTAINMENT lose the first place...
that’s why even the biggest artist today can’t sell so much records...
so it’s hard to tell who is the biggest band if you talk about that without count the others factors..
other ways we can say that some of the classical composer is the biggest artist of the world cos maybe he owns the 90% of the music market at his time....
i only can say that Roxette has the wider and many-sided community becouse of combine of sweet ballads and power hits:-))
that’s why i like Roxette more- the life is also combine of diffrents thigs- Roxette are more trully and real than others...
the_phantom_roxer said on December 15, 2002 18:09:
@ roxbeliever: thats my line!!!
abba are gonna have done better than rox cuz they released stuff to a world without “popstars” and to a world who appreciated talent and real music!
daniel_alv said on December 15, 2002 19:18:
according to Gunnies book Beatles has the record at 1 000 000 000 sold albums....
and it’s nothing to talk about... ABBA is the biggest group that Sweden has created....
but ROXETTE is so much better
the_phantom_roxer said on December 15, 2002 20:32:
abba have more of a legacy... but rox are THE BEST
Ferdan said on December 15, 2002 20:46:
@Pascal
oh yep, but i bet Abba’s 250millions is also inclunding singles.
daniel_alv said on December 12, 2002 21:06:
i’m sorry but the answer is no.. ABBA is much bigger then Roxette
ABBA 350 million sold albums...
Roxette 40 million sold albums...
