I watched an interesting TV show tonight, it was called “100 greatest selling UK singles”.
The purpose of the show was to celebrate 50 years of UK music singles.
Unsurprising... Roxette did not feature, but then neither did Madonna or ABBA - so they were in good comapny.
The lowest qualifying single had to sell just under 1 million records to be included.
The winner was Elton John’s reworked version of “Candle in the Wind” (Diana - Princess of wales version).
What a poor collection of records...
...or am I just getting old?

also the Beatles had no less than 5 (i ithink) entries all of which sold over 1 million copies each. now i knew they were popular, but i didn’t quite realise how much.
Elton John’s - CITW sold 4,864,000 (ish) so i think it will stay there for a long time yet.

Well I watched VH1’s 100 Love Songs or whatever the title was. Some of the songs were so crappy. I can say It Must Have Been Love could have easily made it to Top 10. Not that I am prejudice about Roxette but some of the songs had no love theme to them. I don’t know who votes for these charts but sometimes you just wanna beat the crap out of some producers.

the problem with the charts is that the number of records sold doesn’t match a song’s/album’s popularity. madonna’s called the queen of pop, but if she didn’t make it, how on earth did she get the title? definately not because of her contraversial behaviour! if only artists got the attention and respect they deserve. the public needs a say in all this!
