Groove Coverage DELETED guest-book entries!
big-little-girl said on November 12, 2002 16:54:
The Band Groove Coverage who stole the melody of their current single GOD IS A GIRL from JEFFERSON has also a website with a guest-book!
A friend of mine and me wrote entries!
I just wrote, that they should mention the REAL composer on the sleeve of GIAG! And that the Chorus-melody is from ROXETTE’S JEFFERSON on the ROOM SERVICE-Album! Nothing else, no f-words or anything like it! Today my friend sent me a SMS and told me that they DELETED our entries! I checked it and it’s TRUE!!! Really POOR GUYS!
It would be nice if some of you could sign the guest-book as well! (HAHAHA) They can’t delete everything!?
Here’s their homepage-address: www.groove-coverage.com, click GUESTBOOK and then INS GÄSTEBUCH EINTRAGEN
THANX

Has they our entries deleted?
I can´t found my entrie.
m-cvk said on November 12, 2002 21:22:
Yes, probably they delete all message with the word “Roxette”, “Jefferson”, “Room Service” etc. in it.
They also deleted mine (My “name” was ’Jefferson’ ....)
They just can’t face the truth!

“I do believe he didn’t do wrong...” ...maybe he came up with the idea later without knowing about Roxette, in the end it’s not such a famous song :O
It can happen, c’mon, don’t be so mean...

it’s really pathetic... can’t anyone produce HIS OWN music... I don’t think Gessle would be flattered to find out such a crappy “artist” stole HIS arrangment... *sigh*
Ferdan said on November 12, 2002 23:24:
oh come one santi.... first you were defending Malmstedt..... and now these guys?.... are you secretly planning to steal more Per songs for you?
and remember you were saying coincidences were judgeable?.... well, in the words from the court published here they deny that.
Jud (moderator) said on November 12, 2002 23:59:
yeah Santi is actually Malmstedt disguissed.. oh cmon - he explained his point of view well enough in the comments to Malmstedt article...:)
And I guess that if somebody has to do something about this song, that’s Gessle, so if he doesn’t care, why should you - yes I believe that by now he has read on this forum about this song :)

I´ve signed the guestbook now! When I send the message this came up:
Ihr Eintrag wurde in das Gästebuch übernommen.
Ihr Eintrag wurde an den Gästebuchinhaber weitergeleitet.
Dieser wird den Eintrag prüfen und über eine Freigabe im Gästebuch entscheiden.
Daher ist Ihr Eintrag jetzt noch nicht im Gästebuch sichtbar.
My German isn´t really what it should be but does this mean something about somebody reading the message before it´ll be showed in the guestbook? Why do they have to delete replies from the Guestbook ... when they can choose not to show them at all???

In the Malmstedt discussion I said it can happen that you come up with the same idea later (what a shame, today I “composed” an Ocean Colour Scene song :S), but that doesn’t deny there are copyrights!!! So you get into trouble because of it.
Now I’m just saying this guy could have composed the same song without knowing Roxette’s “Jefferson”, that can happen. I haven’t said anything about copyrights, most songwriters don’t give a s*** if other uses the same melody and that is why I think Per Gessle won’t bother sueing them. But if he did, it perfectly ok, and I would defend him. He has his rights, and would win, I’m pretty sure about it...
I think anyone can see I “stay my ground” much better in this issue than most of you. Just look at the comments, now everyone is 100% sure this Groove Coverage did copy Roxette, even if nobody know if he ever heard them (Remember guys Jefferson was not a single!!! If you don’t buy the CD there are few chances to hear it!!!). But everyone was also 100% sure Per didn’t copy... c’mon people, think with the brains and not with the heart... I’m all the time keeping the same opinion, everything can happen.
And I guess no one of them copied... when you write a song you don’t go listen a song and simply change it a bit not to be discovered... as Per said “he didn’t invent pop” and melodies sound alike a lot these days. You usually realize once the song is done (like me this morning), or don’t realise it cause you don’t know the song you have “copied” and make a mistake like Groove Coverage.

@Ferdan... they were judgeable, otherwise the case wouldn’t have been taken to a court... because in my little world that means you can argue about it to find out the truth (though what Malmstedt expected was pretty surreal, gotta say), that is if copyright laws were broken or not. I just said that!!! :O
If the court decides it’s not enough similar it’s ok, but I see it’s awful a bunch of crazy fans start insulting someone who just is fighting for a right he has.
I’m sorry but Mr. Gessle is just a person, under the same laws as the rest of the mortals, he got lucky but that doesn’t make him an unreachable god.
Santi said on November 14, 2002 20:03:
The shame is to compose a chorus that already existed :DDD
The band is so cool!! :) ;)
Ferdan said on November 14, 2002 20:11:
Santi.. with Malmstedt you were saying, (let’s suppose sleeping in my car is really seemed to jenny and i) that even if sleeping in my car was written by coincidence.. Per anyways would had to pay for the rights,,, even if it was just a coincidence.
And now with this band you said -oh come on,it could be just a coincidence-
i´m just remarking that.
Santi said on November 14, 2002 21:20:
Yeah, but as long as the legal songwriter doesn’t say anything, there’s nothing else to say :O
If Per says that takes it to court, Groove Coverage will have to pay to Per Gessle a percentage of the money they get from royalties and so on.
But again, I’m just saying you are pretty “evil” judging people, because you just say they copied copied copied... that’s very humiliating for any songwriter...
LittleGirl78 said on November 14, 2002 22:11:
I have now ask they, why they delete all entries with the word Jefferson or Roxette.
With the guestbook, but this not stand up on the guestbook, why some people first directed my entrie before come it on the guestbook.
big-little-girl said on November 15, 2002 16:05:
@ Santi:
This song has EXACTLY THE SAME melody in it’s chorus, you can even sing “I do believe...” to it! It’s not that some tones are the same!!! If they wanna cover songs, that’s fine, but they have to mention the real composer! Maybe they thought their name was enough...!
But it’s up to Mr. Gessle to do something against it! If he doesn’t care...!
It’s not about money, it’s about right and wrong! Per could donate the money for poor songwriters like you for instance!
wendy said on November 15, 2002 21:15:
okay, that was a bit too cruel from you,big little girl......
everyone has his own opinion, don’t flame and don’t humilinate them for that.......
Santi said on November 16, 2002 00:24:
@Wen: Thank so much!!!!! :) ;)
@Big-little: Scales has just 7 degrees... All in all there are 12 semitones... the probability to have the same tones between two songs is... 100%!
It’s the combination between them that makes a song simillar to another one.
And yeah, you can sing that to it, the melody line is exactly the same, but this things happen by chance too. Songwriting is a difficult thing, and I do get upset when magazines like NME talk about Roxette and they say things like “Dressed for success, that is Gessle’s version of *****’s classic. And then he played Listen to your heart, that is Gessle’s version of *****’s classic.”
... I mean, no one of them invented pop music, not me, not Gessle, not The Troggs, not Gallagher, not Groove Coverage...
And now think about this... Could it be that he listened to the song and later he composed this song thinking it was his? I mean, that happens too. As I said before, many things can happen...
And yeah, I’m poor, but that doesn’t make me a worse composer than this Groove Coverage guy, or Per Gessle. My bank account is open for any donation Mr. Gessle or any other wants to do... maybe then I can buy a better guitar, a better equipment and my demos could sound brighter and could join Mr. Gessle on stage some day...
Ferdan said on November 16, 2002 03:14:
That kind of coincidences don’t exist.... when chords and melody is almost the same it is not a coincidence...
Just do a little math....
I´m a musician too, but I don’t like to show it off all the time... and I perfectly know.... that kind of coincidence is less possible than winning the lotery with 3 numbers.
You can have a similar melody, ok.... you can have similar chords ok..... but if you have almost the same chords and melody... it’s not a coincidence. And if they didn’t really ’steal’ it... they for sure had Jefferson in their heads... maybe unconscienly.... but still that, doesn’t make it a coincidence.
And anyway, in this special case we are talking about MELODY, CHORDS, and ARRANGEMENTS!!!!!
the 3 things altogether. The piano phrasing is the same in both songs.... with little variations.
So if you still think it might be a coincidence... you can’t be more stubborn.

@ Santi:
Sorry, if you got me wrong! I didn’t want to offend you!!! I’m not that rich myself! Well, against Mr. Gessle, who is? ;-)
And if this song would sound a bit similar, than I would agree with you, too! But exactly the same notes with just a little more “boom boom” in the background??? And their name says everything...!
I got my opinion, you got yours!!!
@ Ferdan:
Thanx, I agree with you!
To all of you:
Have a great weekend!!!!
Jud (moderator) said on November 18, 2002 12:50:
well again, it is Gessle who has to decide what he wants to do, so as long as he doesn’t care, why should you?
That they copied it, ok, that they didnt, fine as well, just let people be :P It is Gessle who has the last word :)
