Here we go again

*edited for LOUSY spelling in some areas* :oD
Okay, I may be overstepping my bounds a bit here (LEO, give me a swift kick in the arse if that is the case), but I was thinking. Jas, put DOWN the fire extinguisher, the smoke was a false alarm!!! ;o)
Last time Roxette tried to ding the N. America market... RNAF was born. For those new to the game, or who don’t remember, RNAF is short for Roxette NorthAmeriFans. RNAF staged the RoxattaqUSA and needless to say, we bombed the market alright. In fact... I’m still trying to crawl out of that happy little crater. It SUCKED! The effort on behalf of the RNAF-ers was FANTASTIC. Don’t sell yourselves short, ladies and gentlemen.
Where it sucked was: EAR helped it fail. Yeah. There was little to no support from them in promoting WICF... at least, that’s what I noticed out here in my little corner of the country. There is a station manager of one of our Pop stations here that is a HUGE Roxette fan. However, he wasn’t interested in investing much because of the lack of support given by the label.
I don’t know all of the ins and outs of how this works, but I do know that we didn’t have a whole lot of help. In my line of work, I managed to get a few of my passengers to call the radio stations for me and it helped... but not enough.
I guess what I’m getting at is this:
Shall we resurrect RNAF and stage another Roxattaq of sorts? Call it something else though... people started getting confused between Roxette and Roxattaq. But then again, the collective IQ in Utah rivals that of a rock at times.
Another question is: Do we want to do this, and if so, will you give 100% of what you can? I realise that not everyone has time everyday to do this. Believe me, if there were 3 of me... I’d still not have a lot of time to get stuff done. But, if you do sign up for this, will you be willing to report to someone about how activities have gone, and give them a basic “field report”?
If you want to do this, I’d like to propose that RNAF be resurrected and then have things organised a HAIR bit better. Butt-sight is always 20/20. We learned from the first time around that things need to be a bit more centralised. For example, each state / province has a representative or 2 (or however many is needed. California and Texas would benifit from 3, seeing the large population / size of the state, where as Utah would need only 1 or 2).
Then each State Representative would report to a Regional Represntative. The US would be divided into several regions: West, Mid-West, Central, East, South, New England (just as an example). They in turn, would report to the BIG boss. LEO and Carlos were our go to men back east because they came up with this, and most of the stuff centred around NY / Boston and other eastern cities more than out west (with the exception of Washington State and Oregon I believe).
Now, I’m not saying LEO and Carlos HAVE to be in charge, each of them have thier own lives to attend to. To me, they make a logical choice because of their abilities in the past. I’m hoping that with the addition of the State Reps and the Region Reps, this would take a large portion of pressure and stress off of them (or whomever picks this one up), and frees up a lot of time for thier lives.
If it were me, I’d love that. Free time... of course, I don’t know what the hell that is... but it’s a start :o)
Ultimately, to sum up all of what I’ve just said:
Resurrect RNAF? If so, who leads? Does the State and Regional Reps sound like a good idea? And would all of us be willing to report to the Reps and help push the release of TBH here in the NA area in February?
Or am I in need of being sedated and locked in a padded cell again? Your call.

hrm... guess it’s not a good idea since the only person who’s said anything is Jas. Ah well.

When I discussed the possibility of another organised fan campaign with EMI UK about this new release, they were quite clear in their request for us not to do it...

*leans against a wall*
Yeah, I heard about that. However, I’m having a difficult time believing that it caused THAT much of an uproar. I didn’t have any bad experiences calling in to the 3 stations here in Utah, or the couple of phone calls I made while I was in Los Angeles on vacation during the promo time. I understand the concern that this individual has with it though.
I’ve met some “rabid” fans of bands/tv shows/etc in my time and they scare me. However, I see absolutely NOTHING wrong with putting together personal sites, or creating promotional posters. So, I don’t know. I’m waiting for someone to tell me one way or the other, and personally, with EMI’s track record with things... they can bite my butt on this. I’m not impressed with their promotional department.

** Nods at LittleSpooky **
Yes, I’m sceptical too, but I remain positive about this whole Valantines Day project.
I’ve been discussing it with a new head of marketing at EMI UK and he really is upbeat about the whole thing...
...you never know.
P.S. I love the way you start almost all of your postings in Smalltalk with a descriptive emotive/action :)

*grins* I try. For me, that let’s the other person/people know what it is I am feeling or thinking beyond what I type here. I’m an expressive person by nature and it translates to online a lot in forums such as these.
Anyway, I’m hoping at another shot with RNAF to be honest. I’ve learned a bit more with things like HTML and Flash Macromedia and I’d like to do some more designing of a site for this. Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone to teach me things like Java/JavaScript and the final touches with HTML. I prefer to learn and do at the same time. The other drawback is lack of funds (have you any idea how EXPENSIVE it is to own programs such as these!?!?! I have the “edited” versions that aren’t the full release and it’s limited with what I can do.
So.. the long and short of it is: I’m just waiting for the go ahead, or the stuff it in the box until later. Thanks for your input though... was beginning to wonder if it was sedation / padded cell time ;o)

Interesting points made at the roxette.net site. I’ll have to somewhat agree with this - for the reasons stated above about EMI’s lack of promo as it is anyway.
As for bombarding stations with requests and e-mails, it can have a negative impact as well, in which DJs and radio programmers become annoyed and will not play the song. That’s why it must be planned in such a way not to annoy anyone.
But I worry if Capitol is just backing the promotion alone. HMMM. Radio is so weird anyways, so maybe they do know what they are doing.
In any case, the fans can always help in several other ways, as mentioned above - posters, websites...basically suggesting Roxette to anyone.
