Also, if anyone finds a site that’s selling the non-copyprotected CDs, let us know!

i won’t buy not 1 cd as long as the cds are copy protected. they can’t do that to us fans. we are the clients, we are the ones who pay emi. emi must learn that that’s not the way to earn money.
Mfan28179-Jason said on October 24, 2002 18:43:
It all depends how the copyright protection works. I don’t blame Twenty7Twenty for not buying it. Obviously, this copy protection won’t make any difference since these songs will make their way on the Internet. I already have both “It Hurts” and “Every Day” as MP3s - not the best quality, but it works. If I didn’t want to, I wouldn’t have to buy the compilation. And I’m still thinking about it, depending if I can find a copy that’s not copy-protected and if I can make my own MP3s.
StillFar said on October 24, 2002 18:51:
that’s the point. The songs find their way to the net. I’m not saying that I’m not downloading songs (I do), but I think it’s a very strange thought to criticize EMI for trying to protect their product from illegal duplication. It’s ridiculous !
Santi said on October 24, 2002 19:48:
What is ridiculous is to try to protect a CD full of songs that we all already have, many non fans have and the internet is full of them in MP3. Don’t you think this is even more ridiculous?
StillFar said on October 24, 2002 20:19:
Sometimes this board is such a strange place. Come on Santi, since when do you copy CD’s. You didn’t burn CD’s during Joyride, CBB, GH times. The file sharing isn’t old, it’s new and it’s a big problem.
Most record companies cut jobs last year, artists don’t receive the same support anymore, I can go on, but I guess you get my point. So yes, I think it’s totally normal to protect a product, even if some of the songs may have already been on the net (they cannot undo what’s been done) and even if this copy protection isn’t a 100% successful.
pietROxette said on October 24, 2002 20:29:
I think I’ll buy it from Amazon UK cause that one doesn’ seem to have copy protection on it.

None. I won’t buy singles, I won’t buy EPs, and I won’t buy compilations of old material. The only reason I bought the original version of DBUGTTC was the four new songs and Almost Unreal, which had until then been available only as a single or on some damned stupid soundtrack album - and as it has been re-worked (without the four new songs), I would not buy it now.
If Roxette wants my money, all they have to do is produce a new album - really new, not some old stuff thrown together. Well, maybe some old stuff if it was an album of B sides...

I totally agree. And that’s why I have an issue with this copyright idea. As I stated above, the songs are already leaked on the Internet. So what’s the whole point of this copyright idea when people can just get the songs for free? All this copyright protection does is piss off the honest fans who wish to rip their own MP3s and make their own compilations of various Roxette songs.

Guess it’s my turn to chime in on this topic, and rather than posting it to several different topics concerning the same point, I will state it here and pass it along if anyone wants to read where to find it.
From what I understand, copywrite was created to protect the artists/poets/and so on from having people rip off their work and claim it as their own. Also, it was designed to prevent people from copying works and making money off of them without permission.
Fast forward several years and here we stand now with CD ripping/copying technology and the like and CDs possibly being “Copy Protected”. The laws still apply to prevent people from making money and claiming works to be their own. However, enter the LOSS of money due to people copying CDs and giving them to their friends and what not.
This is where it gets into a HUGE shade of grey. In a black and white world, CD Copying IS illegal. No two ways about it. Morals? Eh... I’ll leave that one up to someone who actually has studied Ethics. However, most people DON’T copy WHOLE CDs. They are like me: They make compilations of songs off of multiple CDs.
We don’t make a profit, we don’t give them away to friends (well, I don’t anyway. I won’t speak for others because that’s just not nice.) We use them for ourselves. The compilations that are made are ones that we’d like to hear, and it probably would never come about because each one is different and suited to the individual.
Another thing is: A lot of folks have songs that are “One Hit Wonders” (Yeah... THAT one again) and they don’t want the whole album just for that ONE song. I have several of those on my HD.
What this boils down to is: One HUGE ethics debate on the “Should we or shouldn’t we...” As for me, I will wait to see what the fate of the CD is. Is it to be copy protected or not? Until I see the product, I’m not believing much of what I read. That’s just me.

2, if the cassette counts. MC (just to have it, because finding a CD won’t be so easy), and later a CD.

Actually, that’s not true everywhere! Take Germany, for example: we are allowed to copy CDs and even give them to close friends or relatives for free! But that also means that unless the copyright laws are changed, copy-protected CDs prevent people from doing what they are legally allowed to do...

@squigger - as far as I’m aware there are new trax on these compilations too! or was I mistaken when I saw.... ATAY, WOTW, It Hurts, Breathe and Everyday. ;) or is it that back when DBUGTTC came out the mp3 didn’t really exisist as it does now? ;)

The one that comes to Argentina - let’s hope it includes Breathe in the tracklist >.<

Actually, in Germany it is totally legal, to copy CD’s, you know, burn them or “branding” as germans would call it... how come it is legal in Germany? Being one of the three biggest msic markets in the world? I do not complain, still, am just wondering... :-)

just saw that Starrox said something smililar...
