rsox70 said on October 3, 2002 14:05:
cool to see others enjoy Def Leppard...I am from USA and apparently they are another band of greatness from the 80’s. I still enjoy their sound today, although they do not get the radio play they once did here - unfortunately. Their new album “X” is great as well and I recommend it to any fan of this band. Not Hysteria or Pyromania, but it is a nice combination of their new sound meeting the old.
xarrrr said on October 3, 2002 15:09:
i agree with you there, but i really LOVE Hysteria! (dont have Pyromania yet, sob!) also the Vault is WICKED and Slang rocks! yaya!!!
rsox70 said on October 3, 2002 16:45:
Slang too is good as well as Adrenilize (although it is so much like Hysteria)...”X” is a cross between “Slang” and “Hysteria”!!

I’m investigating further as to if it really was a DL song ;)

powerpoplarry said on February 17, 2003 06:56:
OOO goody, a Def Lep board!!
Um yep, Mariah covers DL’s BOTH on her new album “Charmbracelet”. Um, we went to the same highschool, me + Mariah, so yeah, Def Lep was big by us as early as 1981, and BOTH was a favourite of mine and people from my town. It was all over MTV, and that’s the song that broke em in America.
Um, yep, I’m a longtime fan, and I’ve had all their albums. I’m waiting for the early CDs to be remastered, they really need it done, as the sound quality is kinda horrible. Um, I have the 2 DVDs, AUTOGRAPHED by Def Lep, as I saw them play NYC’s kinda small Irving Plaza, holds 700 I think. Afterwards, some people I met, we tried to meet DL afterwards, and we were able to find the aftershow party. Met them all, Phil was the coolest. REALLY friendly, outgoing guy, signed everything. Joe wasn’t really in the mood, but he did sign 2 things. I gave him pics from an Ian Hunter gig I went to, as I knew he loves IH. Viv was really cool, a friendly guy. Sav didn’t have much to say really. Rick was calm, cool + collected, but it seemed like the slightest thing would set him off, a short temper. I mentioned to him that the early CDs need remastering, and he seemed to take it the wrong way!! Like the albums don’t SOUND bad, but the times changing and sound quality of CDs is improved, and the old CDs just need an upgrade, that’s all, but I felt he was ready to deck me with his 1 arm, yikes!!
Of the albums, “Slang” is my favourite, as it’s fairly original and a great direction, but it didn’t sell. The 2CD “Rock Vault” is an AWESOME hits collection!! “X” is really good!! Um, I really want the Japanese import version, with the black lettering-on-white cover + 2 bonus tracks!! I have a signed copy of the US version (white lettering-on-black cover), but I can’t just buy the Japanese version and switch booklets, ya know?? Sooo, I want to SELL my signed “X”, any takers?? A trade would be cool as well. Def Lep appreciaters only (Vixster?? xarrrr??)
Back to the albums, “Euphoria” is excellent. “Hysteria” is classic, “Pyromania” a drop below, and “On Through The Night” is like a demo. LOVE “High + Dry”!! “Retroactive” is a cool B-sides/rarities collection. My least fave is “Adrenalize” cuz, it’s kinda average and boring I think, some good songs on there though.
And aweosme, Def Lep is coming back to New York, playing the Beacon Theater on April 10th!!
Stormkeeper said on February 17, 2003 15:06:

OMG! right at the end of the Mariah version....she does what I hate about her voice.....that little high pitched squealy type thing......argh....it makes me cringe...... wheres the delete button.......this isn’t living on my pc for long. ;)
*Plays Def Lepp version to wash horrible sound away*
powerpoplarry said on February 18, 2003 06:54:
That’s cool Vixzter!! :-) You’ll enjoy the show, they still rock live, haven’t lost their edge one iota!! Would YOU maybe wanna trade for that signed copy of the US “X” CD?? Lemme know...
Vixzter said on February 18, 2003 18:38:
It seems the Lepps have the same problem as Roxette.....read this :
Unfortunately, the single release of “LONG LONG WAY TO GO” has been pushed back... once again. This time, the main reason for the delay is the (absence of a) promo video. According to the original schedule, the band was supposed to shoot the video this week in London (Joe) and Spain (rest of the band). However, the shoot has been moved to London for the entire band and is now scheduled to take place on February 18. A new date for the single release has not been determined yet, although the US division of the record label has finally decided not to release the single in North America at all – neither for radio, nor commercially.
Taken from their web site dated 06/02/2003.
It was due for release next week. 24/02/2003
Vixzter said on February 26, 2003 18:33:

I come in here, expecting a nice chat with some mates, and then there’s peeps like you who scare me half $hitless. Not only do I have my parents who have gone into a “let’s try and be cool and impress the kids” phase, I also have my friggin next door neighbours yelling out the window ’telling’ me to stop drumming so loud. And then, YOU, yes you xarrrr, turn really schizophrenic and start laughing like the builder from up the road (who, incidentally, chased me down the street with a spade this morning).
If I wanted to be surrounded be twisted, half retarded cretinous plebs, I would have invited my parents ’mates’ over for a jolly old knees-up. So please, in future, could we try and be a little bit more ’normal’???
* edit: P.S, don’t take me literally. You guys are the only ones who can actually make me laugh out loud while sitting at a pc. ;) *
Vixzter said on February 26, 2003 22:45:
@zaine : I think you need to discover Def Leppard!! and play ’LET’S GET ROCKED’ loudly to your neighbours! ;) .....that might create mass ’HYSTERIA’ :P and then you’d be able to take a ’PHOTOGRAPH’ of all the ’ACTION’ as everyone begins to ’RUN RIOT’, just make sure you ’BREATHE A SIGH’ before you ’DISINTERGRATE’ as otherwise you’ll be up ’ALL NIGHT’ and it’ll feel like you’re ’TWO STEPS BEHIND’ and you won’t be able to ’WORK IT OUT’ coz you won’t realize that I’m only ’FOOLIN’ and you’ll think that its ’UNBELIEVABLE’ that I still have a ’LONG LONG WAY TO GO’ before ’ARMAGEDDON IT’
’DAY AFTER DAY’ it might suddenly come clear that I’m a ’21st CENTURY SHA LA LA LA GIRL’ and not a ’DEMOLITION MAN’, anyway gotta go now coz I ran out of ideas and I got ’STAGEFRIGHT’ so I’ll collect my ’PERSONAL PROPERTY’ and make off like ’WHITE LIGHTENING’ coz otherwise I may just ’TURN TO DUST’
:P
It took 2 cans of beer to work that out!
Vixzter said on February 28, 2003 08:31:

What happened to DL‘s success? They hardly play them on the radio anymore. How is their newest album? Are DL fans fans of Europe and Bon Jovi too?
I love Love Bites btw.
xarrrr said on March 1, 2003 23:38:
@stormkeeper: i think they’re still kinda huge in america.... but not in the UK :(
their latest album (X) is well good! you should get it.
Vixzter said on March 2, 2003 11:01:
No pix as the tossers on the door took away my camera when they let someone in with a whole cam-corder....work that out! wouldn’t mind but a: my digi cam doesn’t take brilliant pix and b: i’m not very tall so would’ve had 5000 heads infront of every pic i took!
Anyway, was talking to an American guy in the que and he said that DL hardly get played there anymore either, so i guesse its the same situation as here.
The reason ppls started to hate them here was because they thought they were selling out to America when what really happened was the Americans just appriciated decent music when they heard it :P
The fact remains though....they go on tour more there than they do here, just wish I’d had the cash to get to more than one concert.
@xarrrr : t-shirts are ready to be sent tomorow :)
BTW, Long Long Way To Go should be out in the next couple of weeks, nice single very radio friendly lets see how many times it gets played, prolly less than ATAY....which means theyve really had a bad time of it. :(
Vixzter said on March 5, 2003 17:29:
@xarrrr - t-shirts have mostly definately gone today!!!! sorry for the delay, i’m a forgetful sod ;)

gone dead!
anyhoos... got the long long way to go single/dvd yesterday and its so cool. the vid is sweet :)
powerpoplarry said on May 28, 2003 04:53:
What’s on the single/DVD?? Haven’t seen it yet as an import!!
Revived, YAY!! Yeah, longtime Leps fan, but radio pretty much abandoned them here too, yet that hasn’t stopped their touring. Seems they do more of it as it’s probably their only source of income and exposure. Maybe TV but that’s rare.
BTW, my fave album of their’s is “Slang”. Also, when in hell is Island Def Jam gonna remaster the Leps catalogue?? It’s in serious dire need of a rematering overhaul, dontcha think??
Also, I met the band after their NYC club show at Irving Plaza right when “X” was released, cool guys, espesh Phil, Viv + Sav. Joe wasn’t in the mood to meet people after the party and just wanted to go back to the hotel, moody guy, Joe is. Rick was cool but you have to watch what you say, as he seems to have a short fuse. I asked him about the possible remastering of their CDs, and he looked like he was about to deck me, DOH!! :-O
Yeah, please let me know about the B-sides on the LWTG single, as if they are the bonus tracks on the UK + Japanese version of “X”, I won’t have to sell my SIGNED COPY of the US version!! Normally, what I would do is buy the import and switch the booklets + sell the American version. Why can’t I do that?? Cuz the colour scheme is different!! The UK/Japanese version is black on white, while the US is white on black... If the songs are not the new B’s, I’d be willing to sell my signed “X”, as I would want the Japanese import version instead, more complete. BTW, “X” is awesome!!!! Still great live too, will forever be a fan, but still, Rox is better... ;-)
Stormkeeper said on May 28, 2003 11:20:

Yep, VH1 Europe. The show was really really well producted, it contained a lot of interesting information, and some parts of the story were told by band members.
xarrrr said on June 8, 2003 22:30:

I believe Def Leppard are cool. I like most of their albums. I even liked them more when they performed in Freddie Mercury Tribute. We shall not forgot that this is the band that’s been through SO MUCH. Most bands wouldn’t survive.
Vixzter said on October 27, 2003 06:55:
Well what can I say.....the boys were great as always.....birmingham academy is a pile of ****
didn’t matter where i stood (when i finaly found somewhere to park) i could hardly hear joe’s voice at all.... maybe they had sound issue’s ...i dunno....but was very disapointed :...( worst DL concert i’ve been to ever, and that was #9) .....but that was no reflection on the band as they were fantastic as usual.
Sav is lush! ;P
Vixzter said on October 27, 2003 17:09:
@Damineh: Watching that Freddie tribute show was how I got into DL :)
xarrrr said on October 28, 2003 10:10:

Hey, I saw them yesterday in Frankfurt and I´m going to see them in Köln today as well. I can‘t believe they finally came to Germany. The last time I was so excited about a concert was in‘94 (CBB-Tour). But I never was so satisfied with what I saw!!

DEF LEPPARD
Best Of
Reviewed By Sean Parsons
Def Leppard emerged from Sheffield at roughly the same time as bands such as The Human League, Cabaret Voltaire, and Vice Versa. Unlike their peers who were experimenting with tape loops and early synthesizers to create some fairly challenging music, Def Leppard preferred to play comparatively straightforward rock music on more traditional instruments. In doing so, they became extremely successful with multi-million selling albums and playing to sold-out stadiums around the world.
This ’Best Of’ does pretty much what-it-says-on-the-tin by collecting together the band’s biggest hits. Now, I’m the first to admit that I’m not really much of a fan of Def Leppard, but I was quite surprised at just how many of these records I remember from the 80’s. I guess that this serves as some kind of testament to the band’s songwriting ability.
The album has a healthy mix of ballads and more up-tempo rock tracks. For me, however, the ballads seem to work better purely due to the fact that they seem to have stood the test of time better. Included in this group of songs are ’Love Bites’, ’Two Steps Behind’, ’When Love & Hate Collide’, ’Long, Long Way To Go’, ’Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad’, and ’Hysteria’. However, if out-and-out rock tracks are more your cup of tea, then you’ll find plenty to please your ears, with tracks such as ’Pour Some Sugar On Me’, ’Photograph’, ’Let’s Get Rocked’, ’Animal’, ’Heaven Is’, ’Rocket’, ’Action’, and ’Make Love Like A Man’.
It is well known that the band’s drummer tragically lost an arm in a car accident. However, instead of giving up playing the drums, he adapted his playing style and incorporated elements of electronic percussion into his drum kit. The upshot of this is that a lot of Def Leppard’s records featured some fairly inventive rhythms both in terms of style and the sounds used. Indeed, they give the tracks a contemporary sound that is mirrored in a lot of today’s rock acts that incorporate DJ turntables and hip hop elements into their sound.
This album almost serves as a snapshot of the sound of (heavy) rock music through the 80’s. However, the subsequent emergence of Nirvana and Metallica changed the sound (and arguably the look) of rock bands forever. Hence, by today’s standards, a lot of the tracks on this album no longer sound as ’heavy rock’ as they did when they were originally released. However, this probably won’t worry you too much if you were a fan of them the first time round. Now, where did I put my air guitar?
LaMan´s comments: Another GH!
Vixzter said on November 29, 2004 10:31:
Got the cd and dvd they both rock!
DL’s version of Waterloo Sunset is cool :)
They’re supposed to be releasing an album of cover versions at some point with versions of ’20th Century Boy’ by T-Rex, ’Hellraiser’ by The Sweet and ’Rock On’ by David Essex ( GT have covered this!)
:)
LaMan said on November 29, 2004 10:34:
I see....what else have they covered during their career? I didn´t know they has some cover versions.
btw does DL fans like Whitesnake as well? I loooooooveee Is This Love and Here I Go Again! I´m glad they tour again.
Vixzter said on November 29, 2004 17:15:
Let’s see....what else have DL covered.....
’Action’ by The Sweet is one that springs to mind, they’ve done some accoustic covers of some Bowie stuff ’Ziggy Stardust’ & ’Jean Jeanie’ although they have so much stuff of their own they don’t really throw many covers into their gigs and albums.
I’ve seen them play ’Now I’m Here’ by Queen with Brian May as guest guitarist, thats also on the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert dvd I think.
Vixzter said on November 29, 2004 19:12:
ah that was it, well they did that too, was getting confused with the freddie mercury thingie
harriej said on November 29, 2004 21:13:

Last time I heard of Def Leppard was with
“Let’s Get Rocked” , somewhere around 1991 or so.
Was a good song btw.
Vixzter said on November 29, 2004 21:48:

Chris Moyles Strikes Again! Thur 15th June.
Not quite the hysterical interlude as the Roxette one a month ago, but a little Leppard talk can be found at 2:04 (or 2:09 if you wanna skip them playing Pour Some Sugar) and then a little bit more at 2:18.
The show is up for 7 days.
Enjoy
