Roxette 'Not Cool'

They once were cool, they are not anymore. Once you leave “being cool” it’s almost impossible to be again, cause you’re not fashion anymore... Cycles in music are a bit longer, so maybe in 15 or 10 years they are loved again... it’s usual that 20 years after bands become admired again... even if when they we’re in it they were hated (remember about Gyllene Tider, for example, being considered a teenager crazy phenomenon when they were playing and then so loved by everyone in Återtåget Tour).

Tell them Rox´s newest album RS is a (1) million-seller :)
So Rox can´t be out of style.

I try, but people just don’t realise talent when they hear it!!

First of all, Roxette is a band that made hits in the early 90’s so today’s youth doesn’t really know Roxette.
Secondly, Roxette isn’t hip (anymore). They’re not the kind of popstars who make the news. Marie and Per have a good and honest image. They don’t drink. They don’t use drugs. They’re not involved in sex scandals, etc...
Thirdly, when a popstar turns 40 it’s very very hard to still get the attention of the media (especially the music channels).
And fourthly, Roxette’s music has always been quite soft. It’s easy-listening music and many people are afraid to admit they like that kind of music (especially younger people).
That’s my opinion.

people who heard me saying the answer didn’t laugh, they said that Roxette is ok :)

well emi is part to blame...everyone here in america goes roxette i remeber HER. they promoted it that way. as for being over 40...tina turner was 60 when she retired and everyone still loved her so its not about age...its about envy

anyway, even if we are uncool in the eyes of the others we still have each other to have fun with...as long as there are no flamewars ;-)

Its not about age ppl: Madonna, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Stones, Kylie, etc....
Roxette has NEVER been cool! Per & Marie said it themselves - they’ve never followed trends, etc. They do what they feel like, and thats what is been regarded as what contributed to their “uncoolness”.
I remember with the whole alternative/grunge era my friends who were in2 Nirvana at the very beginning (so was I - be4 Kurt shot himself in the face) respected me for also liking Roxette, just because the were so “uncool” - they didnt sound like those techno groups (2 Unlimited, Maxx, etc) that was taking over the airwaves - Roxette sounded like no1 at the time and thats why the were so uncool......
......and this has been going on since then. They are the coolest uncool band, and Im proud of being a fan. People who dont realise that, are just fuckin clueless and knows nuthin bout music anyways. Its not about them liking Roxette (they dont have to) but for god’s sake: dont slate them for doing their own thing!
Get what Im saying?
Cheers

I suppose, PASCAL is the nearest. Exactly, what I’ve been thinking of ... all the years (and I admit, sometimes I was a bit ashamed to say I liked them, but I was too young and silly then) :)

Three letters: EMI.
Instead...is U2 so popular, grammy awarded, etc?
That’s it...tours and radio promo would turn Roxette ’cool’ again.

@carbon - exactly!!! I hate it when you tell ppls you like Roxette and they turn around and so “oh them...they’re shit” (yes thats happend to me) they’ve never bloody heard a Roxette song in their life (except maybe IMHBL) and they say stuff like that! clueless arseholes who are more than likely into R’n’B , Rap and Hip Hop....I’m sorry but although I’ve tried I don’t see the appeal of that stuff, is it really music??? So these days.....I say I like Roxette and most ppls just turn around and say “who?” which is fine by me coz I just say “oh they’re some swedish band I like” and I don’t have to explain myself any further.

there is some kind of pride to love “uncool” band,it’s like to colecting pix of Dali instead of collecting posters from some kind of yellow magazine.
it’s worth,isn’t it?:-))

Why is it that whenever people ask you what your favourite band is, and you say ’Roxette’, they always snigger about it as if you’d said something like Keith Harris and Orville!! They’ve consistently done brilliant songs which haven’t dated, and they write them, play instruments, and can sing great live. It really annoys me - what do others think?
