Define "HIT"

Reading all the discussions whether the single will be a hit or not, i wonder what a hit is. You get a hit when you sell a whole bunch of singles, okey. But the people who buy singles are the boys and girls between the age of 12 and 18. (roughly) That’s not the group of people that are into Roxette.....
I compare Roxette, with a group like “the corss”. The will never top the chart, cause they too have little people who like their music AND buy the singles. The people that like their music will wait for the album....
I do think Roxette has delivered a “radio-friendly” song, which can top a lot of airplay charts.....
ATAY would have been a “selling hit”. when a girl like sita would have sing the song. Not because she’s a better singer, but cause she’s hot in the single-buying group..... BTW, don’t you think “selfish” (her new single) is in the same style as ATAY???

well i’m not too sure how you would define a hit (a song with both a descent amount of airplay and single sales i guess) almost anything in the top 20 is a hit these days. Does it really matter if the song is a hit - at least we know that the majority of rox fans that exist are ’true fans’ and love rox no matter where they are on the charts!!

I really don’t care about the charts, of course it’s better to hit them!!! what I want is that rox-songs are played a lot in the radio!!!! and for this, they need a good position in the charts, isn’t it?
Keep the radio on, cos this is the perfect song!!!!

In the Uk songs mostly only get played on the radio if they’re in the charts.

Depends who’s behind the single...
When George Michael & “Shoot The Dog” (adorable song :-) charted @ no. 12 it was considered as a flop...If Roxette did the same, say with “A Thing About You”, it’d be massive - a new milestone!

@zanderico: roxette have been there done that and unlike the corrs they ve topped no1 all around the world so dont compare rox with them!
hit is a song that: enters top 20
has a lot of airplay on radio

I compare them only in a commercial kind a way.... And yes, i know they did sell all those records, but that was a long time ago. Nowdays, looking at sales and chartperformance, they at least have something in common....
But sorry if i hurt your feelings.....

my idea of hit is breaked the top 50 or sells one million copies in terms of an album
Vixzter said on September 11, 2002 05:47:
The Corrs are forever topping the charts....or atleast top 10 in the uk.
So I’d say .....top 10 is a massive hit......top 20 is good.....even top 40 I’d be chuffed with......that would stick one in the eye of EMI :P
