First time it sounds a bit boring, but that’s cos it’s only 30s. Now that I’ve listened about 20X it’s great.
But what does it mean “...you’ve been painted my world BLUE,I’ve got a thing about you”. ???
poppy_head said on September 8, 2002 22:33:
FUCKING GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can’t stop listening.

raisa said on September 8, 2002 22:59:
it sounds like roxette.
that’s what i like. :)
can’t wait to hear the whole song!!
joyrider said on September 8, 2002 23:01:
thats right - this time it doesnt’t sound like a song of SAVAGE GARDEN, MADONNA, ABBA, BON JOVI whatever... it is the power of
* R * O * X * E * T * T * E *
joyrider said on September 8, 2002 23:03:
in my opinion their voices in the chorus-part sound like instruments - they are fitting the melody perfectly! hopefully more people like
this song and with more i mean millions!! would also be a superb song for the night of the proms, don’t you think?
vaxjoe said on September 8, 2002 23:05:
@ TROX : well it means that even if a person doesnt accept ur love and u feel blue u can still be in love with him/her, i ve got a thing about u it means im so in love with u it ends up as a small obsession.

It’s SO SO SO SO PERfect... I knew it was going to be a GREAT song.
Ballads sung by Per are always the BEST !!! :)
Everything is PERfect about this song... I can’t wait to listen to the whole song... BEAUTIFUL !!!!!
The best part, of course : And laaaatelyyy you’ve been painting my world bluuuue (FANTASTIC)
All the best (Awake all night long)

It’s the best Rox song ever! And it isn’t only a good song to fans, it’s also a great song to reach the top of the charts! I remember looking for “Matah” on the radio in 2001, and now it’s ATAY. Time flies...
ATAY is the greatest gift Rox could give to their fans... a masterpiece!
Salvation7-20-7 said on September 9, 2002 04:09:
Well, I have to agree with someone who said that it sounded boring the first time I heard it. I was a little disappointed with not hearing the guitar. But hey....This song is awesome NO MATTER HOW THEY PLAY IT!!!!!!!!! :)
It just goes to show how great Roxette is. Now if only this song will have the luck that ’The Look’ did here in the states. I think it would be popular here.
Ciao from the States,
Salvation7-20-7
Jackeill said on September 9, 2002 06:18:
yeeeeeeaaaaah for the first time i’m really satisfied ! yes song is great and that’s all!!!
ehh but there are still NO crashing guitars... :/// that true :(
btw. for me it’s mid-tempo not ballad....
temps-daurats said on September 9, 2002 06:20:
baio, maybe that’s why I like it so much!!!!!! ;)
Noel Gallagher used to say that for him to know if a song he has just composed is good, he’s got to remember it after sleeping.
Yesterday night I couldn’t remember the melody... but this morning after sleeping it was with me again :P
So if I’m enough of a good songwriter then it’s going to be a very big hit!!!!!!!
Ferdan said on September 9, 2002 06:54:
no need of crashing guitars in a ballad hey.....
It doesn’t have stupid synths so it’s ok!!....
I like it.... it’s very well arranged.. like in the old times....
carbon_boy said on September 9, 2002 07:03:
IT’S ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!!! I dunno what to say - I’m speechless! If this aint gonna be a hit then there’s sumthing wrong with the world.... its the best thing that Rox has done in AGES! The best thing thats on radio (scuse the pun) at the mo’......
GO PER!!!!!!!

The recording reminds me of the recordings from his last solo album!
stevier said on September 9, 2002 07:28:
Good song!
A lot better than The Center of the Heart for example.
I think Europe will love it, but if can convince the Radiomakers here in the Netherlands?
Like it when the beat swings in in the verses...
nicolas said on September 9, 2002 07:28:
The thing I am most happy about is, that this is the really best arranged single since WICF !!!
No “DEMO Keyboard (remember Real Sugar)” and no attempt to try out mewest styles ...
No this is really Roxette and nothing else !!!
Thx Per and Clarance !
Ronney said on September 9, 2002 07:44:
I’m not so happy with the song, it seems I am the only one so far and I hope everyone else loves it..
But I just think the chorus is boring, I wasn’t touched by it. Too bad!
onlywhenidream said on September 9, 2002 08:04:
really good. I like it a lot. Think it sounds alittle like Reach for the Stars by Sclub7 when Per starts singing higher...but still wicked.
Boy_on_the_moon said on September 9, 2002 08:24:
It’s just wonderful! Sounds fresh, but still very roxettish, and really cool and relaxed :-)

LoneGunman said on September 9, 2002 09:19:
Just PERfect... I’m SO happy !!! :)
Love the lyrics, the vocals, the cello, the phone tone in the background, everything is so right !!! One of their best song in years !!! It’s very special !!!
And man, what about that part where Per sings : “And lately you’ve been painting my world blue” ??? Could it be more PERfect ? :)
All the best

temps-daurats said on September 9, 2002 10:00:
I think the verses sound like “It takes you no time to get here”.
Nefatari said on September 9, 2002 10:31:
I love that song :)
It’s Roxette the way i love them :)))))))))))))
@baio
Well, actually it doesn’t sound like an Oasis-song, but I’ve the feeling that there are some “brit-pop” influences in the song.
Thanx God no dancefloor-influences anymore :)
wendy said on September 9, 2002 10:48:

Well, have been listening to it over and over for about an hour. It has grown on me a lot I have to say....I don’t think it’s their best though. I do like it, can’t wait to hear the rest of the new stuff!
steven said on September 9, 2002 12:06:
Now that I have heard the full song (many times), I still can’t decide on the sound overall. It’s very light and fresh sounding isn’t it?
Love the lyrics though, much better than most of the lyrics on the RS album.
Well done Per.

Have it on repeat mode, I still can’t get enough!!! I love it is not enough to say... I am very touched, tears are brimming in the corners of my eyes... Lovely bunny voice creeping inside me and then Marie to spice it up a bit in the chorus, i adore when they sing together!!! :)
The compositin and melody line in the end reminds me of i’ll be alright and I don’t want to get hurt.
I wish SO much Per and Marie played their roles in the video instead of some hired actors... but well.
*sigh* I am really lost for words!
animalkingdom said on September 9, 2002 13:12:
It’s a thing only Roxette could come up with.
It’s amazing how they keep on going...The song is just another proof that being a fan of this band is something to be proud of!
Excellent!

well hard to explaion a great song. wonderful from head to toe!. I think the’re are back even just for us. A great and unique sound.......... i’m happy this time... a good come back!!!!!!! I hope they have a little bit of good luck and the common people enjoy roxette’s songs again like 10 year ago.... i hope!
onlywhenidream said on September 9, 2002 13:50:
it is excellent. very very good. I kinda think it reminds me of ’Happy Together’.
well done Per - now just get your arse here in the UK to promote it!
PeterGm said on September 9, 2002 14:11:
I think it is good. As good as the rest of those ballads Per has in his wardrobe.
What do i mean? Well, i think it is just one of those magnificient ballads Per writes, but I honestly think they should’ve gone for a more powerful ballad... there is an enormous lack of energy.
Where’s the building up of the song? The electric guitars? You know; like IMHBL, FLAF or LTYH...
It is nice when you listen to the first minute, then it is boring.... I’m a Gessle fan, and he deserves honest opinions.
PEter
steven said on September 9, 2002 14:37:
Yes.. spot on Peter... You’ve summed up exactely what I was thinking...
Very light and fresh sound, but there is a noticable lack of energy...
little-miss-sorrow said on September 9, 2002 15:22:
it’s fab. esp the beginning. i love the verses. everyone who said per can’t sing should be quiet by now. ;o)
xarrrr said on September 9, 2002 15:34:
i totally agree on that!!! Per sings it so well... he’s great!!! :)
and so is the song... aaaah!!!
Zanderico said on September 9, 2002 15:46:
Hmmzzzz... It’s catchy that’s for sure, and yes it’s a superb balled. I don’t think it has a lack of energy, it’s just a different kind of energy... The joyride album had a typical sound, just like HAND and roomservice.... This is the sound they have right now.... But, for the dutch people arround here, i can only hope hope hope that this song will get the airplay it deserves.... (i don’t think radio 538 will support it....) has anyone heard it already?
RoxiRoxt said on September 9, 2002 15:47:
CAN´T STOP LISTEN TO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Per could not sing a ballad???? OF COURSE HE CAN!!! :o)
Can anyone please call a psychatric??? I´m getting crazy about this song.
I got a thing... about this song :o)
ROXETTE 4EVER!!!
A hysterical RoxiRox(t) :o)
Pascal said on September 9, 2002 16:35:
@ Baio: when I heard the whole song I thought it could be an Oasis-song too. It’s a very British song and it might be big hit. Songs like ATAY are ’in’ nowadays. Excellent song!
Thank you very much Per and Marie.
Vixzter said on September 9, 2002 16:44:
a very British song? O_O it sounds like very nice European (excluding the UK) radio friendly song.
Clever lyrix and clever tune, I best not be negative or I’ll be shot down in flames ;) but its hardly going to set the charts alight here i’m afraid to say. LOL....its not even on radio play lists! :P
Still........ I like it.
Gezza said on September 9, 2002 17:57:
I know what u mean Vixter, I love the song but it won’t fit in with all the stuff in the UK chart. It’s only interested in will and gareth and boyband/girlband stuff, such a shame cos i think it’s one of the best yet.
Pascal said on September 9, 2002 18:02:
I have a good feeling that ATAY will do good in the U.K. charts.
Vixzter said on September 9, 2002 18:06:
LOL....you’re the only one then ;) someone had a good feeling that Milk&Toast&Honey would do well too ;)
temps-daurats said on September 9, 2002 18:09:
Well, who cares... I’m pretty sure at least in Spain and Sweden it’s going to be a number 1.
Gezza said on September 9, 2002 18:10:
Pascal: I think it would be a hit if we were back in joyride times, but I hate most of the stuff in the uk at the moment and the stuff that I like never really gets anywhere. I would love for them to be in the top ten but the charts are dominated by teenagers who buy the hearsay, westlife etc etc stuff so although it’s a good song , we won’t hear much of it . but nopefully I will be proved wrong. :-)
Gezza said on September 9, 2002 18:13:
I thought MATAH was such a bad song to be a single here in the UK, I love it but to catch a bigger audience we should have had either RS or TCOTH, what do you think Vix?
Vixzter said on September 9, 2002 18:18:
we should have had Centre and Looking for jane ;) but hey....i’m not living in the real world ;)
Gezza said on September 9, 2002 18:25:
neither am I cos I thought we should have had Bringing me down to your knees and Try but that’s just me;-)
roxtexanet said on September 9, 2002 18:32:
There are only three ways to have a big UK hit:
1) Be a current or former member of some bad UK girl/boy band (e.g., Steps, SClub7, Spice Girls... well, won’t work anymore! Westlife...) or be from a made-on-TV act (even if you didn’t win).
2) Have had a HUGE hit in the US with tonnes of major US label support (e.g., Britney, Celine, Shakira, whatever other crap filters out that way)
3) Be dead (Elvis, the dead Beatles, Aaliyah) or really old (Elton John, the remaining Beatles).
Roxette are neither current or former members of a UK girl/boy band or got together on a TV show, have a major hit in the US and major label support, or are dead or really old. Conclusion? Not a chance in hell this will be a hit in the UK. Does it have a thing to do with the merit of the song? Definitely not.
onlywhenidream said on September 9, 2002 18:45:
hey - according to most of the media in this country (UK), Roxette are dead!
I think it has great potential as a single here in the UK as it sounds so different from all the other blandness that’s around - but it will only work if EMI UK get them on the right promotional channels! AND NOT LIQUID NEWS!!!!
Jud (moderator) said on September 11, 2002 07:43:
answering to Peter and Steven (and copying from another of my posts):
I am right now sitting in front of the computer, listening to the Austrian radio station Ö3 and sudenly i have heard the first notes of Spending my time, i started to shiver when Marie starts to sing and right now I am having tears in my eyes. It´s been LONG since i last heard the song but after so many years and having heard it like million times, it still brings that feeling in me, it has been LONG since a Roxette song last brought tears in my eyes.. just like that.. just because of how beautiful the song is.. And it makes me sad that this feeling is gone with the new songs.. Things will never be the same, I feel.
There´s lack of energy, in a way i feel there is lack of interest, of enthusiasm, of THAT what made Roxette songs want you more and more. I have listened to ATAY already for some times, and when it gets to the end i feel.. bored! :( WHERE has THAT gone?
steven said on September 11, 2002 09:38:
I don’t think it matters what Roxette release in the UK, it won’t do well.
Their last notable success here was WICF which entered at no. 11 back in 1999, then is disappeared from the charts at the spead of light. (and they put in some decent promotion that week appearing on many notible TV shows)
Since then, we’ve had Stars and M&T&H, both of which bearly charted, oh and not forgetting the abortive release of Anyone (but we don’t talk about that - too painfull).
I hate to say this but the situation here is fast resembling the situation in the States. I.E. no Rox releases. I think it’s only a matter of time before some EMI bean counter realises that it is no longer viable to release singles or even albums here.
Sad.
