"Anyone" Promo 1ere and Video Shot in Portugal

In April 1999 Roxette came to Portugal for 2 reasons: promoting the album release “Have A Nice Day” and shooting the video for the second single “Anyone”. First the band actually performed “Anyone” for the very first time for the portuguese audience on the “Globos de Ouro” TV show, a show that celebrates the people behind the portuguese TV, Radio, Cinema and Musis almost in the style of a Grammy Award show.

On the next day both Marie and Per had to wake up very early to start shooting the video for the single and TV reporters surrounded the band that day in order to report on the video shot that day (which later was shown on TV). The crew had only permission from the local authority of the city of Lisbon to use the place for a couple of hours during the morning so they had to do it as soon as possible. In these place (a city road under a train bridge ) Marie had this simple green dress on and had to walk along the road in the middle of a lot of traffic while Per shotly appear on the video driving a car watching Marie passing by that tunnel.
Later on the crew went to a small resort island in Troia a bit near from Lisbon the shot big part of the whole video. A hotel room, a swimming-pool, the whole local place with the trees and the huge isolated beach were used to do the whole shotting secction.
On a small interview Marie stated that “I’ve never seen anything like this...it’s so special. It’s just a bit sad though because no one is using anymore and it’s a pity because it’s very beautiful around here”.
Then later on on another small break in betweem the shooting Marie talked a bit about the song: “Oh yeah it’s a very lonely sad song but....it’s one of my favorites on the album it has great lyrics and great melody ... and i feel that people can relate to it because everynow and then we have all felt like that ...”
The final shooting done for the video was obviouly the dramatic scene on the beach. Marie has to go deep into the see pretending she’s going to drown herself as an attempt to suicide. But it’s all make believing.

thanks.

I have some reports about it taped from Portugal. One was full of mistakes in their names... I think they turned Fredriksson to Frederikesen or sth :)))

I was watching the video last night actually and I think the video is one of the best Rox videos ever, it is so well done!! The pasrt when Marie goes into the Water is the most briliant part, no, not because she is going to kill herself, the reason is, obviously, the character she is playing is really down, when Marie is shown from the front, while walking deeper into the water, you see all the dark clouds behind her, meaning, she is trying to walk out of her dark negative life, in front of her the sun is shining and everything is sooo beautiful, that’s were she is going to walk into, a better place, a brighter life...
I am not saying to commit suicide is the right thing to do, I am just saying, how the director of this film has done such a good job of filming the different parts in the film... I just love it, Marie is such an impressive actress as well, looking at her acting in that Video, you can really get the feeling of the person she portrais, really sad and depressing, compared to milk and toast.... you feel the freshness and positive attitude Marie displays... she is amazing.

its the first video kinda with a story line and a mature element. Greanted it was kinda cheaply done ..i alaways imagined amyone doen with a video shot in the 50’s with the story of a break up then a getting back together and all...but this video somehow fits. It gives me chills like the ydum video ...soemthing roxette rarely does to me. I love their happy music but once in a while its great to get inside their heads :)

Interesting to know, although i don’t like the song much the video is pretty good

Thanxs guys for the replies....

I forgot to mention that Roxette also performeed “Wish I Could fly” on that show and if take a very close look there is a lady in the audience waving her silk scarf while listening to the slow rhythm of the song... quite funny...lol:)

In the meant time in between performances someone shouted EXCELLENT twice but whether it was ironic or true is yet unknown.

True was that a famous portuguese actor called Ricardo Carriço made a very unfriendly face in the end of “Anyone” because the soud was too loud and some people found hard to handle it... but i presume he hated the performance...and you know what i hate him...

I just hope you liked to see the beautiful landscape from Troia here in Portugal ... it’s one the most beautiful places here...

It’s just sad that some many people ended up no liking the song ...especially fans...:(

@Gyllene Tjd: Yes it’s true the TV Report had lots of mistakes like Peter Gessla and Marie Fredrikssen...but you know...no one talks swedish in Portugal so no would make such notice except the fans...it’s natural i didn’t take much concern of it...lol:)
