Are Roxette fans becoming more spectical about their music?
Why or why not?

I know what you mean Pascal....i can only say that time passes and things never remain the same.... Roxette themselves feel that and they express that on music right now.... I actually think that they are afraid that the old sound isn’t fit to be heard anymore and that’s why they say they like to bring modern sound to their music....
However the result might be good but different and if you’re an “old school fan” you will find hard to like this new “Roxette sound and music attitude”.
I never liked Stars from the beggining and i was very sceptical about TCOTH ...i found it too weird....i loved the chorus but the rest looked like another dif song into it...they started to outgrow in me and after a while both song were more apreciated by me and now they are 2 of my fav....it’s strange but it can happen you never know what to find...they stated to blow my mind....lol:)
I guess that i never saw Roxette into a sort of definite format and as i am also a very big music lover as i also listen to many kinds of genres that helps me to understand better and to accept with time these sort of radical music changes....
I wish they didn’t release any song with too much studio effects on it like it happended on HAND and i hope they will work on a new album but without maiking it so simple and a bit more stronger in sound like it happended in RS...i find this album good but too simple....TCOTH is too short and the end should have been extended the same for MW ML ML a beautiful song but too short lyricallywise and and in time running...you know small details like those....at least Jefferson is a comenback of Per’s musci style into a Roxette album just needed a bit more a Jonas solo in it and that would be it...
Anyway whatever they do ...i’ll respect that ... as a fan should always do....it’s their music at first place so...
But i am also aware of what other peple might think of the music now... so i prefer to remain silent and just enjoy for myself....
I don’t mind saying i am a Rox lover all my friends know that ...i might be teased by i just don’t care and it’s important you keep that head still....you like Roxette and that’s what matters who cares about what other people think....it’s an aspect of your life people must learn to respect...
No matter what happens i’m sticking to Roxette...

I think theres a different feeling with every album. I remember joyride and many of my friends classed the album as a classic in the same league as ...well other classics. Joyride had such a fun feeling to it whereas recently they seem to have devoloped a more mature sound which is not what we are used to.

When I first heard the HAND songs I only liked Wish I Could Fly, YCPYAAWAG, Stars and Beautiful Things. It took some time to accept the other songs as well. Still I consider this album as the most commercial album Roxette has ever made.
When I first heard TCOTH on the internet I couldn’t understand why Marie and Per would release such a song as a single. I remember there was a voting on the Fanclub’s website about the song and I guess I voted 50 times on “I don’t like it”. I was really disappointed and not only in TCOTH but in all RS songs. Nowadays I can live with them and some songs are nice but for me there are no WOW!-songs on RS.
When I was 18 years (in 1999), I delivered a short lecture in school about Roxette and I didn’t feel ashamed. When I finished talking, the first thing my teacher said was that she had never heard of Roxette before (oh well, she was the only one in class) but that she really likes the music (I had some Roxette audio stuff with me). So that was very nice.

LOL Pascal....its funny the same thing happened to me when i was i Germany last year doing my 3rd year study at college and for my English subject i had a teacher from America and i wrote an essay ( a very good one) on ABBA ....i mean i felt like doing it and she didn’t know ABBA either...no body laughed at me at least there because if i were in Portugal doing this it would have been the best joke of the day....still i would read my essay OUT LOUD with pride!!!!:)

i think for thodse of us who became fans around the period of joyide we feel cheated in a way. I got introdouced to roxette backwards and when they hit thewir high in america i had no money....Then they vanised...i saw no concerts, promos etc ...well very little. Then they vanished, if it weren’t for the internet and alot of great fan friends..I wouldn’t be a fan today. i rmewber when scouring a bargain bin in a record storing and fining a cassette single of their was like finding gold. Now, I think I am a bit bothered by pers desire to give into fan flack. I was disappointed in RS, it rolled back the rox clock too far. Hand was such a great album, they sounded hungry for success againg...alvie, then rs amkes them SOUND like they ARE 45
no offense though I love them and the new stuff is gonnna rox on. I just wish for us fan that have stuck by them for 10 yrs or more that they’d push one last time...so we can finnaly say to people look those are the pop icons I said I lovedd, u said were a joke, and there they are riding the charts and kicking ass...but i live in my own little world dont I ?

Yes we are, because they’ve been dissapointing us constantly since Baladas came out.

I am not sceptical. One cannot expect them to have the same stream of success throughout the years. I think it is good they experiment with music, lyrics, clothes etc. Now it is the time both Per and Marie can concentrate on doing something for pure fun not fighting/worrying to be successful at any price.

CowboyUsa: thanks for your honest opinion on Roxette. Despite reality you said to be a Roxer yet and i hope you could continue to enjoy them as you’re always been. The reason why they lost ground on the USA has to do with the fact for an European music group trying to achieve success in the USA requires lots and lots of time consuming being there appearing on TV and doing promo...the US is a huge country.... it’s easier for an American ro tour America as be successful but not for an European.
You might not understand why things happen like this but according to many who have tried it has become a heavy task to take ahead....you have to take a lot of choices if you want to embark on such a risky journey...
Per always said he would love to perform for the US fans but it never depended on him ... for how long would he have to be in America to tour...for how would he have to leave home and family to focus on a huge country as America....????
It’s sad that things don’t work the way it was supposed to. We do forget so many time that Roxette are two human being with ordinary lives like us...they have the right to live them as well they aren’t puppies controlled by the fans to do whatever they the fans want... they can’t do that it’s almost impossible... there certain limitations and if both can’t cope with certain things we have to accept that after all they aren’t super heros...they are two human beings talented and whose music enters in ours hearts ..at least in mine as many now seem to turn their back on them now...it’s shameful but once again ...things move in so many strange ways that we will never understand....
So cowboy if you have this litle world of your own where you can listen and enjoy Roxette without having people teasing you...don’t be afraid to stand up for it. This is all about you and everyone should respect you if they don’t then tell them to fock off....
I think we are growing tired of always being led by others’ views ...we should be self respected and enjoy more ourselves whatever we are whatever we like think or do...it’s all about being ourselves....and no matter how hard that is it will continue to be until we believe that we can change it...
Regards from a friendly Roxer

I don’t take a lack of success as dissapointing...
what’s dissapointing for me is the lowered quality of their releases..... since Baladas en español...
Heart_2002 said on September 6, 2002 18:26:
Ferdan: Thanx God i knew that you would end saying something clever.... and trully felt....
In fact i also agree with the lower quality than surfeces on their music but one thing has to be understood:
- With HAND all the album ended up being a mistake of wich Per later regreted as far as production was concerned...
- With RS they wanted to do a simple and short album. Why? It was something both decided to do and that was it...no explanations to the case....in the end you can like or not....
Anyay crying for the 2 albums for not being so good isn’t going to make any diference .... you carry on as always and maybe you end up getting used to both albums even if they will never be so much beloved ....it took me time to get used to them as well and now i don’t mind about them....so try to do it as well... the world is not going to end because of it.....

I’m becoming more and more sceptical towards Roxette because I always want to compare them with the glorious days back in the early 90’s. In that time everything seemed to go perfect. Marie and Per were full of energy and they were really young, shinny ’popstars’. Everything looked so much brighter than now. Now it all feels so arty and dark and artificial: their image, their music, their videoclips,...
And I don’t know, but sometimes I get the feeling that they are exhausting things. Roxette’s music is so over-produced nowadays. Where are those crashing guitars? It’s a pity they haven’t record an album in the style of Per’s solo album TWATG (’97). That would be really fantastic!
POP, Look Sharp, Joyride, Tourism, C!B!B! and DBUGTTC all felt so natural right from the first time I heard them. But when I heard HAND and RS for the first time I was missing something. Especially with RS.
