What are we?

You know... I’ve been lurking mostly as of late, just catching up on things in general, Rox news concerning the album release and stuff like that so I can snag it. In all of my general nosing around in the sock drawer, I’ve noticed something:
There seems to be a couple of categories here on TDR:
“True” Roxette Fans
“False” Roxette Fans
and those that really don’t care one way or the other. My curiosity is this:
What is a “true” Roxette fan? Is it someone who listens to their music to the exclusion of all else? Is it someone who spends most, if not ALL, of their money on Roxette stuff? What makes a “true” Roxette fan?
“False” Roxette fans? What on the moon is that?
Those who don’t really care one way or the other: Yall are in GOOD company.
Okay, so here goes what I’m thinking:
No such animal as a “true” or “false” Roxette fan. You either like their music or you don’t. You either like some of their songs or you don’t. No need to start a war over any of that. However, if you are to base everyone here on criteria such as this, then I am NOT a true Roxette fan.
I have other hobbies and interests in music. Some time ago, someone posted about different music types. I was impressed at the fact that there are a lot of people here that like different musicians. I am one such individual. I like:
Cher, Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper, Macy Gray, Roxette, Sarah Brightman, Bon Jovi, Queen, David Bowie, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Rammstein, Savage Garden, X, and MANY others. I grab what I like of the music and keep right on trucking.
Does this make me a “false” Roxette fan? Are we done warring with each other over the foolishness?

Pretty nice subject to discuss. My vision is like this:
False fans exist and these are people who only come here to fight, flame others, spread rumours that aren’t true etc.
True fans: Being a true fan does NOT ( as many people think) mean thay you love EVERYTHING Roxette does. True fans have some level of healthy criticism at hand. And of course many people listen to other bands than Roxette. In my opinion being a true fan is not only about music interest. Apart from that you learn to respect people as your idols, you are interested in what they do otherwise and how they live their life. Once again, respect is the key word, otherwise you become a stalker, a histerical “fan” which is nothing to approve of.
I am not really fond of categorising people but that’s how I see it in this case.

Well what can I say, you guys have said it all!
I consider myself a big rox-fan, it’s been that way for 14 years. It doesn’t mean that there’s no room for other artists. I’m a Sarah Brightman-fan aswell,
it doesn’t make me love Roxette less! I also like to listen to Garbage, Vega 4, Savage Garden, Madonna etc. I only consider that healthy!!

well,i totally agree with you guys!!!
i’m a big roxette-fan,but i listen to other artists as well:savage garden,bon jovi,the calling,within temptation,destiny’s child,.....and many ,many others,i like every sort of music from r&b to hardrock.
i can’t say that Marie is my big example, that are Pink and Shakira, and i don’t think that i’m a “false” fan because of that....

I consider myself a Roxette fan, even though I have listened to CDs from other artists way more in the past few days than to Roxette.
For example, I can’t stop listening to ’X’ from Def Leppard. Holy sh!t, how the hell can they make such great music after so many years! I mean, it’s a decent classic rock album, in 2002. It’s brilliant, highly recommended for those who like guitars. I keep listening to it two or three times a day.
Besides this, I really like Bruce Springsteen’s new album, ’The Rising’ or ’Bleed American’ from Jimmy Eat World.
My great-great favs besides Roxette are Bon Jovi, Catatonia, Savage Garden, Meredith Brooks (she’s awesome, can’t wait to receive her new album), Mike Oldfield, Shakira, Bryan Adams, etc, plus there are some new nu-rock/punk rock bands I really like, including A or Sum41.

Couldn’t have said it better!
I think it’s difficult to appreciate someone’s music, when you concentrate only on one artist. If I decide that the particular artist is the closest to me (or a few of them), i think it’s natural, that I have a kind of respect for him/them. But at the same time the respect doesn’t mean that I have to go mad about everything!

@Little Spooky:
I really NEED another album of Rammstein.
When will they release a new album?
I love their music!

As I keep reading, or myself being told... I am not a Roxette fan! As I don’t really like the new album name! Been told, I should stop liking Roxette! CHEEK!
No, I don’t spend EVERY penny I have on Roxette! I am unemployed... bills are a priority I’m afraid!
No, I don’t like ABSOLUTELY everything by Roxette. 99.9% of it yeah!
No, I don’t listen to/watch videos by Roxette daily.
No, I don’t spend every waking day talking about them etc. (A lot of it! The other half is X-Files! ;))
What does that make me then? A false fan?
But I have been up a full 72 hours, making my way to London, and back etc, in order just to meet Roxette for 5 minutes.
Yes, I do buy each new release(Don’t spend every penny buying old stuff).
It pi$$es me off when you are virtually slaughtered by people on here claiming to be ’True’ Roxette fans... just because you don’t like an album name. Living in the UK, we’d be laughed out of the local record store asking for ’Love Peas’ “We’ve a live one here guys”!
I know i’m a Roxette fan(as do all my friends). And my devotion for the past (coming up for) 10 years, is enough proof for me.

@pietro... Def Leppard’s new album is WICKED!!! cant stop listening to it!!!
i reckon a “Roxette Fan” is someone that enjoys their music... it doesnt mean that thats all they’re allowed or want to listen to. i mean COME ON! if all we listened to was Roxette life would be so boring!!! nothing against their music or people that believe they have to listen to it 24/7 to live... but everyone needs variety!!
i listen to loadsa other groups... Def Leppard, Gyllene Tider, Bon Jovi, BeeGees, Fleetwood Mac and a few others, but even though i dont spend all my time and money on Roxette DOES NOT mean that they arent my favourite band!
me am a ROXER! *ehehehe*

Den: Come to Utah. You wanna be laughed at, that accent will do just fine ;o)
Yashar: I have NO idea when their next one comes out. HOWEVER, I do believe they are on the XXX Soundtrack They performed live in the movie with Vin Diesel, right at the beginning, and the song was INTENSE. I have no idea what the name of the song is though *lol*
Xarrrr: Variety is the spice of life. Or is that the life of spice?

Spooks - I totaly agree with you! there is no such thing as a true or false Roxette fan....if ppls didn’t like them then they wouldn’t be here coz they probably wouldn’t have heard about this site.
I also like other artists such as Def Leppard, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi etc.....I’ll go and buy these artists cds...this doesnt make me more or less of a Rox fan it just means I have a broader taste in music.
