About Lars editing messages written by others

I think that when you edit messages written by others, you should keep the original message and it should be clear which part did you edit, so that we can know what is the part you say and which is wrong.

I mean, it’s not right to put words in others mouths... have you thought about that? (if you say this is your newspaper, I think one of the worst things a journalist can do is to quote incorrectly someone).

how can you be so sure he does it?

@Ronney:It’s brighter than the sun! ;-D

wouldn’t that contradict the whole point of editing it in the first place, ie offensive language, there’s no point in showing the original filled with ’f*** this, f*** that’ when it’s edited to remove this sort of thing

When you see someone who said something and then it’s edited by Lars... how can you know who said what? Who’s responsible for that opinion? I think it’s important.
And that of bad language.... well, he could use * leaving the first letter of every word. I don’t know, I think it’s positive to know what says everyone. That’s freedom in the end.

When you submit material to any newspaper, it is subject to editing. Also, just because something is submitted, the newspaper is under no obligation to print the article, letter, opinion, photo, whatever. As a regular reader of THIS e-newspaper, you should know by now that we adhere to journalistic standards. I myself have worked as a professional journalist. As such, I have a responsibility to be accurate. I doubt you will ever find a reader of this e-newspaper who would honestly be able to say that I, or any other TDR editor, put words into his/her mouth. We do, on occasion, find it necessary to delete words (almost always because the reader submitting the material did not adhere to our policy of not publishing vulgar words or material... or because he/she was critical of another one of our readers in a way that was not respectful). It takes time to do this kind of editing... and we’d rather spend that time editing a front page news article. If you think there is a problem, the solution is for people to keep their language clean, to be nice to each other and not engage in posting “flames,” and to stay on-topic.

Thanks for your explanations Lars, I found them convincing. You’re right.
