Do you really believe that American audience....

Do you believe that TODAY the American Audience would still be interested on Roxette music? I mean in a country where the music bussiness is more about Record Companies being in charge of what people want to hear now and focus on what sells not only musicallywise and also “celebrety”wise .... do you see Roxette a band with a fantastic musical carear being as huge as “shities” like Britney, Christina, BSB or Nsync? Do you feel that Roxette could have number one single or at least top 10 hits there when the only things they care about are American Hip Pop, American Pop and American Hard Rock acts...all American nothing but American stuff on the charts...all the time (despite Kylie Minogue now but she won’t get any further that this...)

If you want a solid carear in the US you have to be there constantly the all time otherwise people will never notice you... and for an outside music band that is very difficult especially for Marie and Per who are now at a stage where they both feel that have achieved a lot in their path so far.

They had their moment of glory many years ago in the USA but things come to an end every now and then ...and to be honest it’s hard to keep a sucessful carear there ....and i also think that to be successful you don’t need to be big in the US ...the world is more than the US as far as i know...:p

Still Roxette do have many fans on the American side and it’s good to know that they still like their music... but since no big American Record Company seems interested on Roxette anymore (remember they just want what sells...) it’d damm dificult for them to achive their music now...:(

However selling a lot or not Roxette are a great pop/rock band that has what many people don’t have a carrier a musical status that puts them on top...people still kno who they are and still apreciate their work...and i think that nothing can feel better than than.

Another dissapointing thing for me as a music listener... we Europeans are allowing all that “American Crap” to jump into our charts as well... we are allowing the Us to be almost the only coutry in the world to have major musis acts...
We should permit a much more flexibility musicallywise .... is they are huge on this side of the Atlantic so shoule we also be as huge as them on their side....but why does that not happen?
Record Companies’ materialistic interest (they could ask a baby of 4 years old to say “buaaaa” and suddenly this silly thing would be a mania there and be a hit ....it’s ridiculous but it’s the money truth behind record companies ) they don’t give a damm about true musical talent and art...even in this point there is no honesty or balance....money shines like sparkles in those guys’ eyes...

This does not only affect Roxette as well as many other pop/rock musci acts outside America...

Will this ever change?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Does it really matter if Rox are all that popular in the States? Sure... if they were back in the States again then they would surely become more famous and sell more records... however... if Rox doesn’t seem to care about that than why should we?

I was in America for 5 years now I am in europe...
I can tell you what I am seeing...defly the main stream music in America is what sells, basically pop (bs, BSB, CA etc)...and hip hop. MTV and most music stations just play that. the adult comtemporary stations play a better variety but its still all the same radio friendly crap. in spite of this, I have heard a LOT of roxette played on american radio, “the look”, “listen to your heart”, “it must have been love” etc. Also, I noticed (at least my company) not all Americans listen to the main stream crap. more and more are starting to like other trends. That’s why more artists like avril lasigne and vanessa carlton are becoming popular. a friend of mine loves frank black (how many of you guys know him?)...and he actually prefers that, because it creates a better atmosphere when black performs.

In europe, i notice a bigger blend of music styles, a LOT more techno (im not complaining *grin*) still a lot more to offer than american MTV. STill, im sick of turning to MTV and looking at naked women gyrating to a beat...that seems to be all that is popular right now... and that sucks.

of course its alll about the money (dum dum dum) and that is just really sad.

About Roxette, I think the main complaint of fans in America is that since it isnt big there, it is less possible to get the music etc. honestly, roxette isnt that popular anymore anywhere except maybe the scandinavian countries, but almost everyone still remebers Roxette!

Kachina....you are one of the few people here who actually did really understand this whole issue surrounding the present music scene ...

It was nice to read your friendly comment honest and true especially when you’ve been on both sides and know about much more than any of us here...

Thanx that was really awsome

Interesting points, Heart 2002 - and what you say is very true about the American music industry. It’s driven by corporate greed, image, and the latest trends. The less talent you have, the more success you can have! Radio is not very friendly to well established artists. It takes much more for established acts to get airplay here in the states. The industry is looking for the latest new star to play to death for a year or two. Then that act is over with and a new act takes the place. It’s very stupid!

In any case, I do think Roxette owes the US fans something - a distribution deal. Even if they don’t wish to promote in the US, I would love to just be able to actually request the new single on the radio or request the new video on VH-1 - and finally be able to walk into the record store and pick up the new Roxette album.

Surely they may never sell gold or have another hit, but I still think it deserves a shot for the fans, even if it’s with an independent label.

@Heart Thanks for the nice comments! its good to hear someone be positive on this forum for a change. I am not as cynical and negative as *some* people here, and I hope never to be!

@Mfan: I agree that American Roxette fans should get some recognition, but I was in a suburban town, and “room service” was available a few months after it was released in the major music shops. So it is not completely isolated. of course it is hard to get rare singles and all that, but I think that is hard to get anywhere, except on special order.

Radio and MTV have bascially “sold out” to the major music industry, there was a time when less known artists used to be able to express themselves on MTV but that has changed dramatically. I’m sorry, but how can you trust a source that plays Nelly’s newest hit that goes “its getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes” ??! I’m almost glad Roxette isnt on these cheap forms of entertainment. Roxette is still a class act (altho the new compilation title is a little weird...).

Well, it doesn’t matter if Roxette aren’t successful in the USA. They are still successfull in Europe, that’s important! Europe loves Roxette!

Thanx for the nice and friendly views you shared here with us...it’s somthing like this that makes this site a pleasent site to watch...
