Roxette was in a article / short interwiew today in Aftonbladet where they go out with the compilation cd:s.

One with balads (this fall), one with powerpop(next spring). That, we knew. But what we didn’t knew (for sure, at least) what that it will include two new songs AND a ep with 4 new tracks on each cd.

- We have released more than 40 singles under our carrieer. The alternative to this was to release a dubel-cd, but that felt so boring, Per sais.

And as we already knew will the single “A thing about you” be released in September. Per comment of the song:
- It’s a rather untypical Roxette-balad with acoustic guitar and cello. I sing it instead of Marie that usualy take care of the balads.

In two weeks the video will be shot in Stockholm with Jonas Åkerlund as usual theese days.

To do a complete new album was never suposed to be.
- Nope, the former album, Room Service, was released last year. We are 43 years old by now, so we gotta take it easy, sais Per

Yes sure. For a start I realized that it should be “an ep” - not “a ep” as I wrote. But anyway, an ep is a record (cd, in this case) with, most usual as far as I know, four new tracks. Gyllene Tider had one back in 1995, when they did Halmstadspärlor, they put a ep on the second edition. That one included “Gå & fiska”, “Juni, juli, augusti”, “Harplinge” and “Faller ner på knä”. Gyllene Tiders first record ever was a ep, actually - only released in 1000 copies.

That means that the compilations will be two cd:s. One with old songs and two new, one with four new.

Thanx for the news.

- It seems that Roxette is getting old.

- I think “A Thing About You” will be like “Better Off On Her Own”, the B-side to the “Stars”-single. Nothing spectacular, only a sad ballad. No-one in the world is waiting for a song like that.

- The end is near.

Some of you aren´t really roxette-fans. When Per says that it will be a untypical Roxette-ballad it must be a better song than the ballads on RS. I don´t want to listen MTH, MWMLML, or all these other ballads on RS and HAND. They sounds to much roxettish, everytime the same sort of music.

and look, whats about IWBYB, Sheena or GGST?? I love that songs, they sound really fresh, and i thing the new ballad will be better go on the charts as MTH. cya

i think it could be similiar to run to you demo, it is not said that the song would be acoustic! it has acousitc guitar and celo but no one said there won’t be a keyboard and electric guitar... btw better of on her own is an amazing song.....

- Wish I Could Fly has been the last REAL hit since 1999 for Roxette.
- Roxette isn’t hip anymore (proof: NOTP and the release of all those ballads as singles)
- Marie and Per are older than 40
- MTV isn’t interested in “old” popstars from Sweden
- Probably a dark slow videoclip for ATAY
- Lack of promotion by EMI and Roxette
- Release of compilation albums (again)
- No attention in the USA
- Roxette is more and more focusing on the European market (except the UK!!)
- The gay-image Roxette has got in the last years.
- Room Service is the most un-commerical album Roxette has ever made

Believe me: the big success of Look Sharp!, Joyride of C!B!B! will never come back. That’s all I wanted to say.

well i´d rather think that they have read some of the posts here and other sites ;)

the idea of having an ep with previously unreleased stuff was written down here -dont ask me when, who, cuz i dont remember, i just know some of us had this idea /asked for this....
And also the came back of real power pop songs like sleeping in my car /she doesnt live ... ;)

Releasing a double cd was not boring, it simply was not giving so many benefits ;)
The price for a double cd is not the same of 1cd+1cd

Pascal, you should consider thinking before writing! Your point of view is really weird. Per stated before why they don’t wanna release a new studio album in the moment.

I think we all can be very happy with Roxette’s decision!
+ There’s the greatest hits for the non-hardcore-fans, a huge aspect for EMI to promote the compilations. You know a new rarities wouldn’t get any promotion as it is a fan-only thing
+ 12 or even more new/unreleased songs within half a year is a gift nobody can complain about. Realise, this is a whole album! Two surprises instead of one.

Agree with you, Sascha. And, Pascal, is Wish I could fly their last real hit? What about The centre of the heart? As far as I can see that song is almost, just almost, a Joyride.

Before I heard this I was saying that I gladly download the new stuff. But when I hear this...

pascal what freakin gay image are you talking about????? secondly, regardless of how successful thi is you can’t call people non fans for not knowing certains songs etc. lets get something straight here once and for all. the fan bashing and homophobia really needs to stop now. we should all be hyped about the releases and the single could turn out to be really interesting.

A brand new album is always better than a compilation album. And now with those compilations, don’t expect such a brand new album before the end of 2004. Maybe they will do 2 more full albums before they finally stop with Roxette. Because I don’t think their contract with EMI will be extended after 2007.

Oh my God, do you consider TCOTH as a REAL hit? Wish I Could Fly did much better in the sales charts than TCOTH.

It seems that some fans can’t stand some negative critics or remarks. And don’t forget: I am only talking about the commercial side of Roxette!

Why should Roxette release two “best of” records after only 2 albums (HAND and RS)? Who is waiting for this? Well I can give the answer: only the fans.

EMI and Roxette may be satisfied if they sell 1 million copies of those compilations.

It’s no question that Roxette will never be as succesful as they were in the early 90s. But I’m pretty sure that they don’t care anymore. They got families now and Per’s statement that he just wants to enjoy the summer and watch formula 1 on his couch proves that their priorities have changed.

I would consider a Roxette-album to be successful if it sells 2 or 3 million copies. I’ve heard that Enrique Iglesias sold 2,8 mio copies of “Escape”, so basically we should be satisfied with the sales of HAND; since it wasn’t released in the US at all and Roxette did less promotion than Enrique does. Now I probably get flamed for mentioning Enrique. I just did so, because he’s often presented as THE mega-hip-artist of these days.

I just wanted to say that I’m really getting bored with all these negative comments. When are you all gonna realize that Per and Marie are not 25-30 years old anymore. They have had their big success all over the world. They have done everything there is to do. Been no 1 on all imaginable charts... done 2 world tours + some smaller tours in euroupe and probably some others to that I don’t know about.

When are you gonna realize that they may just want to do what they want now. That they maybe don’t feel the need to conquer the world all over again. That it might not ONLY be EMI that don’t want to promote them. Sure in some countries that may be the case, but surely not in all. I think it has to do with Per and Marie not feeling that they have the time and energy to do all that promo that it would take to conquer the world all over again.

Well you have a point that Roxette’s sales figures would be more with USA releases. That’s totally right.
EMI USA made a big mistake when they released that “Favourites from C!B!B!” record instead of the original album.
And Roxette should have signed a contract with a big record company in the States immediately after EMI USA closed, so they could release DBUGGTC ’95, HAND and RS there. The current total sales figure, 40 million, could be easily 50 million with these US releases included.

So Roxette has become a minor band in the world pop industry. Many fans think that Roxette still belongs to the top of the music world and that they sell many singles and albums and that everyone knows Roxette but in fact it’s totally the opposite. HAND was the last success. When I heard the RS album I knew the good days were gone.

Accually I think that the ballad compilation can sell a lot.... adult people will buy it i think.... atleast here in sweden.... i have only heard good things about the idea from people i have told about it....

Per and Marie are not so young anymorea, and they are not worried about conquer the world anymore. Per said that wants to slow down, Then we can’t wait too much new material from now on. Maybe they are saving themselves and their best songs to their solo projects in Europe.

In my opinion, they should record an album like TWATG. Remember the words of Marie when she heard it for the first time: “I wish this was a Roxette album”. And indeed, the style of TWATG (fast, uptempo, lots of guitars, disturbed voices,...) could fit Roxette very well. I really hope Marie and Per will do some things in that way in the future.

A second HAND album would be great too. HAND was their most commercial album. Unfortunately they released Anyone and Salvation as singles. Releasing the Stars-remix as a single was also a big mistake. Not to mention the videoclip. Commercially seen, it could have been much better.
