So, you should either make a layout that looks the same in all screen resolutions, or, if you have a design that looks good only in 800*600 mode, then it’s better to fix the browser size so it always opens in that size, no matter what resolution your visitors are using. There are two ways to do that. You can either set the main page to resize the browser automatically when someone enters the URL and submits it, or you can make a front page and have the rest of the site opened in another window (like I did for RoxBytes, for example).
If you are using one of these methods, you can be sure that everyone will see the same site, the way you imagined and want it to be displayed.
Another suggestion: don’t use fonts bigger than 10pt on websites. Most fonts look stupid on webpages when they are bigger than 10pt. In case you still wanna have bigger fonts for special elements (such as menu titles), don’t type them directly in the html page, rather create a picture with Photoshop or some other image editors, and enter the text there. It is because those image editors can create smooth edge fonts, so text with larger size still looks professional.
