An easy question a difficult answer

The question ” what we will do without Roxette’s music ? ” is very easy, the answer is quite complicate, i don’t think i will like any other group as i do with Roxette, but if Roxette hasn’t exist what we will do ?

[email protected]

it’s not complicated at all

You will never be without Roxette’s music. I mean, if the quit one day, you’ll still have their CDs unsless you smash them, so you can listen to them whenever you want.

But i think he meant if Roxette never existed....
silly question....

could you guys *BE* any more negative??
Sheesh, lighten up

Who’s negative here? The only negative comment in this topic was from you, Kachina...

Even if Roxette did split up I firmly believe that Per is the type of musician that would always write and sing music in one guise or another...

...don’t worry :)

Well, you all have to know that Roxette is not the only band in the world,i listen to a lot of different bands, and offcourse roxette is one of the best, but there is more than just Roxette.

Of course they will always be in the music business somehow. Come on, they are musicians. what else could they do? Go and paint walls or what?

Well...I have been listening to their songs since 1989 so I spent more than half of my life listening to Roxette...now they’re part of it!

i totally agree.
also, if you meant “if roxette never existed” then you wouldnt miss them now would you, cos you’d never ever even know about them!

dont think about them splitting, only time can tell whats gonna happen!!! things are coolies! dont worry so much!!!

I am dissapointed that they haven’t broke up yet.

MARIE!!!!!!! Per is holding you back!!!!!!!!! :)

I would follow MF as a solo artist. I already do that. Her music means more to me than Roxette.

I like both of them Bibi, but be sure that without Per Marie wouldn’t have the same success, and something more, do you know any artist that sells so many albums and singles in swedish ? Marie, but why do we know her outside her country, because of Roxette, and without Per, Marie just will be known in Sweden.
Of course this don’t means Marie is a bad singer and composer, she’s very good, and i can understand that you like her more, but be sure Bibi that Marie without Per and Per without Marie won’t be so known in the world.
Hope you don’t angry wiht me about this, is just an opinion i have, if you get angry please excuse me, it wasn’t my intention.

per isnt holding marie or anyone back...if marie hadnt met per and join roxette then marie would never have been known all around the world! thats the truth and u know it!

thanks vaxjoe, we think the same.

so true

... and if Per hadn’t met Marie he wouldn’t be known either...! Don’t forget that! It’s true that he wrote the Roxette-hits but a good song is not everything...! His solo albums for instance were a huge flop!

Marie FOREVER :-) !

oh PUh-leeeeze! :)

that’s like saying Bjork wouldn’t of been a smash without Enar or who ever that guy was!
anybody could of wrote songs for Marie’s break out..
it just happened to be some Gessle dude.....

I wasnt talking about you piet :P

I would be “any other band”’s fan. For example Oasis, Kent, Travis or Bluvertigo.

dan-rox... I know many Swedish artists that sell so many albums and singles in Swedish, even more than Marie. And some of them are also known abroad.

I don’t agree with you Bibi... Per was much more known than Marie... Remember ’bout Gyllene Tider? I mean, I have listened to “Sommartider” in a pub mixing it with many great hits... and “Gå och fiska” in an ice hockey match in Stockholm last year.
Also, they released an album in English under the name “Roxette” in the States... It was just a matter of time to get the right attention.
Just like it was a matter of time for Marie to become the goddess of Sweden. (She had flops also with Strulpojkarna or Strul or whatever was the name and with Mamas Barn).
And a good song is everything.

no Bibi.... Per (GT) is the biggest band in sweden..... so where’s the flop?..... besides per had his solo box 10 yrs before marie.....so wgere’s the flop?

Well first of all I am talking about their success that they had/ have abroad. GT was very successful in Sweden, but I don’t think that you can say that it was a famous band abroad. Maybe in Scandinavia but I doubt that many people in Europe or the rest of the world knew about GT before Per became famous with Roxette.
And in my opinion Per always needs a band. GT is a band as well, don’t forget that! But all of his solo albums were a flop. Also the English album which has been released outside of Scandinavia. This means that the people are not only crazy about HIS songs. There must be something more which makes that people are crazy about Roxette. And this “thing” is Marie! I mean if they liked his songs so much, his album TWATG had been more successful...! So the songs can’t be everything...!
And if you compare MF’s and PG’s solo careers she is definitely more successful!!! I think you can’t compare her solo career with GT.

I just have to say their breakthru hit in the States was “The Look”, where Marie simply sings backing vocals... It’s a Per’s song sung by Per...

“oh, what’s her name???? you know..... the girl with the spiky blonde hair?????”

“Oh yeah, your thinking of ROXETTE! She’s cool!!!”

who hasn’t heard that conversation before. ;p

First fo all, Marie just can write in one style Bibi, ballads, Per can compose not just ballads, Marie is very good, but Per’s experience and knowledge is bigger, you said Per alone was worst than Marie, i won’t say not, this si true, but GT had an style, and Per changed it with his first two albums, the people didn’t like the change, but this don’t means teh songs weren’t good, the problem was that people thought in Per as just one style, and didn’t thought he was very good at all styles.
Second, you said Per alone was worst than Marie, but don’t forget Marie with Strul and Mamas Barn, very bad results.
And you say Marie is the essence of Roxette, not, they are both, but maybe Per has more importance Bibi, who composed almost all songs, working for a song to becoem a hit and adapting it for Marie ? Per, Marie is very important of course, but wothout Per she wouldn’t have the same success,a nd something more, you said your prefer Marie than Roxette, but if it wasn’t for the group you hadn’t listen and know about her before, and you say this also in your ” story ” as a fan in your internet place, that you listened a Roxette song, and then listened from a friend Den standiga resan album.
The truth maybe can hurt, but always is the better, and without Per Marie won’t be known outside Sweden.

well Marie, take your husband and record an album in english...

*both would not have made it outside sweden without each other* amen.

and maybe they will not come back outside of Sweden with each other...

that’s another good question. but will they without each other?? i can’t really imagine that... marie having a top hit in the uk? or per performing his no 1 hit in the us? na...

I can´t live without Roxettes music.
If they never exist I wouldn´t miss them because you can´t miss anything what you don´t know!
Strange question!

Think life would be very hard wothout Roxettes music but I agree with Bibi. Per’s okej, but Marie is always BEST. ;) MF rules!!!

The question popped up earlier, but why did The World According To Gessle never become a succes? Is it just because Marie is missing? I cannot believe that. In fact, she is on the album(!)

I think we have to blame EMI for not putting enough effort in promoting Roxette in the right way.

And I also think that Roxette should have played more on festivals throughout Europe. That is the best way to make new fans. For a long time they just had a huge amount of great fans who bought all there singles. Right now there are no new fans.
And the DJ’s don’t play the songs anymore, snifsnif...

Well... so if selling is your definition of succesful... let’s be more accurate...
who has the biggest fortune? Marie or per? well all know the asnwer..... our dear per.... our succesful per :)

without Per’s songs Roxettw on’t be the same without a doubt.
what people haven’t forget ” The Look ” or Maries’s voice at the song ? the song.

We can definitely say that they have this success BECAUSE of each other. They amend (?) or another word: complete each other. Per is the “brain” and Marie is the “voice”..that is my opinion. What would Roxette be without Per? And what would it be without Marie? NOTHING!!
That is why you find on every album: Roxette is Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle! It is so simple. Nobody would have bought any CD!
And why do we discuss this STUPID question! Why are we discrediting Per and Marie in that way? Don’t you love both of them? I can’t believe what some of you wrote in here!!!

If you Guys look at Roxette’s past really close, you will come to realize today, they are never going to split up! I mean, whenever either of them didn’t want to work on Roxette, they just took a brake, sometimes for some years even... whenever they felt like doing Rox again they did it...
I don’t really think Per is the Brain and Marie the Voice. Both have great Voices and amazing Songwriter skills! I actually prefer Maries solo stuff to pers... her stuff is much more grown up... to me Per seems to be a little Kid sometimes... Per makes Roxette Fun and a bit silly... and Marie actually takes some of Per’s sillyness away, which is good!! I love both of them, but Per sometimes seems to be to much of a silly, gilly Kid... to much of a business man sometimes, but I guess I would work the same way he does...

Yeah, Brian, of course you are right! Marie is also a great writer!!
I love her “waiting for the rain” and “watercolours in the rain” very much!!
I just tried to find a word to describe that Roxette is Marie AND Per and not only one of them!!

I actually think that Watercolors in the Rain is one of the 5 best Roxette songs ever. I even think it is one of the best songs in the world... it is really creative and it is just sooo nice to listen to it...
