Is Roxette mostly a Commercial band or an Artistic one?
Which side of their albums and works is powerful?
Or
I can ask in a different way:
Do you see them more successful in commecial side or artistic side?
Although you may say Room Service was not successful in commercial part. But I can answer that maybe Per and Marie had commercial intentions in their mind while releasing album but they couldn’t achieve this target.
However,we all love them because of their music not their money. But their intention is imoprtant too.

I heard a swedish artist called Magnus Uggla (yes, he’s the one who wrote our wm-song). He became celebirty on the 70’s and when he released his album for some years ago (1999 i think) he said:
“Back then you wrote a couple of songs and when you was finnish with the record - you released it. Now you must make so much commercial and that stuff.”
Agree, my friend, agree...
C’ ya!

Roxette IS commercial because they make very catchy radiofriendly appealing evergreen melodic pop/rock without political messages.
Roxette is NOT commercial because they follow their own style and feelings, base their songs more on melody than production, work with their swedish friends rather than trendy american producers. They write their own stuff, don’t cover songs (except some uncommercial tributes) and prefer family life to 365-days-a-year promotion.
Decide yourself! ;-)

When I compare Roxette releases to other artists I did not agree that Roxette are commercial.
MADONNA, for example, her Greatest Hits albums are not fullfilled. On GH Volume 2 there’s missing AMERICAN PIE, a European No.1 Single!!!!!! And only 15 tracks, furthermore no new track, that’s very commercial.
And her DVD’s (Immaculate Collection and Videos 1993-99) are very incomplete. That’s so stupid, ROXETTE did 35 (!!!) videos on 1 DVD!! And Madonna was not able to have 35 on 2 DVD’s although there are enough videos and hits existing!!
So you can see who is commercial!!!

I think you’re right when you say their intetion is important, too. But what ever it is that makes them do the things they do: Today you have to think of the commercial part of everything unfortunately; otherwise you’re kicked a**.
Terrible circumstances, don’t you think?
