Does Per need a new dictionary?
rouven282 said on June 3, 2002 13:20:
Since there are some discussions about RS right now, I wonder if you agree that the worst thing of the last album are the lyrics.
“Real sugar - I don’t wanna climb the walls”
“Jefferson got hit by a westbound truck / I guess that didn’t make him look like a million bucks”
“Monday was fine and I was on a high / Oh you thrilled me / I should be alright / But Friday I died when you killed me”
“You make my head go pop pop pop pop pop”
Am I too stupid to get the meaning or are these verses just ridiculous? Some lyrics of the older songs weren’t masterpieces either, but this time Per really suffered of a lack of ideas I think. While “Crush On You” was a kind of funny, these lyrics are just cheap.
Maybe he should start to write lyrics with Marie, because somehow her verses seem to be more mature (e.g. Waiting For The Rain)!? But once she said that she doesn’t like to write in English...
wendy said on June 3, 2002 15:43:
first of all,i think per is a much more better songwriter than marie
there’s nothing wrong with those lyrics, actually,i really like them, they’re typically per
Ferdan said on June 3, 2002 20:41:
hmmm well.... Per happens to write really good and smart lyrics in swedish..... but i don’t know why he can’t do it in english at such quality...
RobS said on June 4, 2002 11:24:
Yeah, i also think that some of Per’s lyrics can sometimes be a little obscure, but there’s also theres the times when he comes up with gems such as Spending My Time, WICF & looking for jane. I really like the lyrics to COY, really weird but makes so much sense.

I’m so tired of people complaining about the lyrics...pffff. If you want good lyrics...buy a book or something!
Besides that, this happens to be the same forum where everyone LOVES the new Kylie Minogue album.
The album that contains a song with at least 1200 times “la” in it. The other words that are used in this song are “can’t get you out of my head” and “every day, every night”.
So who needs a dictionary here??

Worst lyrics on that album are in Jefferson...infact that whole song is lyricly poor.
MMHGP is not to be taken seriously and thats why the lyrics are like they are. (very funny if you ask me)
as for the rest of it....its ok.....but he made a clanger mentioning truck twice.

real sugar, I don’t wanna klimb the walls.... the whole song makes me think about pers new diet.. maybe he can’t eat that much cany anymore. Or something.
I don’t know if that’s correct, but it was the first thing I thought of when I heard that song for 1,5 years ago...
Anyway, why bother to complain over the lyrics now? The album has been out for over a year...

” Kissing is the wet sand”
“your mouth is alive”
“I kick it up, I kick it down “
“Flying high, Riders in the sky, Na na na na “
“I love the sound of crashing guitars. Mao Mao Mao...”
I guess you people didnt realized that before...
its always been like that... right?
but i kinda dont understand the meaning of :
“what am I gonna say when I find the centre of my heart is a suburb to the brain?”
can somebody explain that?

Morons who can’t spell, type or grasp the basics of the English language... let alone grammar... but what would you expect from people who think Jefferson contains ’clever’ lyrics.
McDonalds huh? Yeah things have been busy at McDonalds.... but it’s ok, PER has just started work there and has taken my weekend shifts... you know the guy’s got NO success so he needs to put food on the table one way or another... so thanks to PER having my weekend shifts I can relax and think “HERE COMES THE WEEKEND...”
Hahaha better luck next time losers!
netcardsource said on June 6, 2002 04:34:
Roxwriter - this is something I don’t understand ...
why would you flame someone (Per) that you (presumably) like on Roxette’s message board?
It makes no sense. And you obviously know their songs (Here comes the weekend, for example), so why would you talk badly about Per? Obviously the rest of us think he’s an incredible person or we wouldn’t be typing on this board. You must get a kick out of flaming people.
And don’t talk badly about other people’s use of the English grammar. It’s their second language! I bet you can’t speak Swedish at all!
So let’s be cool and talk nicely about Per!!
Close2U said on June 6, 2002 08:42:
I bet roxwriter isn’t old enough to work yet...so leave the kid alone. You are all horrible boogie-men!
And as for rox, Rox74ever is right...they always had songs with strange lyrics in it. And I guess it is one of the reasons I like rox. It’s the feeling of a typical rox song that attracts me...not especially their lyrics.
GreetinX!
rouven282 said on June 6, 2002 08:55:
I guess Per’s grammar is fine; I didn’t notice any mistakes although it is a foreign language for him. Sometimes I just have some problems with his vocabulary ;). [That’s why I asked whether he needs a new dictionary and not a grammar ;)!] But after all it’s still better if he talks about some poor guy which got hit by a truck, than mentioning sex or writing “dirty cool lyrics” like “fuck, little slut” or something like that.
-Gee- said on June 6, 2002 15:20:
well i dont think every song with weird lyrics is nonsense.....ever thought about reading between the lines???
everyone who’s not fine with nonsense-lyrics shud try writing so many songs first before he/she screams out for Per buying a new dictionary :P~~~~
/me personally likes george michaels’ lyrics... ssssssssssexy bot not obscene (well except some ’fuck’ and ’ass’ occassionally...but who calls this obscene anymore? ;) )
tinytim said on June 6, 2002 15:48:
Yeah, Gee...they’re obscene yet, believe me...
The fact is that Per always wrote boob pop lyrics, ’coz pop lyrix are boob at all. If you wanna something deep, look for solo albums of unknown artists. The pop succesful bands have the obligation of reaching many kinds of public in an age range, so they have to please everybody inside this range, artistically and comercially...
But really, Per’s lyrix are still funny as they’ve always been, but in a weaker way...they keep being Roxette but with as a pale shade...like if the songs were just sketches or written demos...who knows, huh? That songs on BMI.com that were posted here in a TDR new at least, had more interesting titles...I just wonder what’s under Ghost in the House, Tide Turn and others...what the hell are they doing now to don’t release them??? Will they keep still and calm, just picking the “results” of the “excellent” year of 2001???
And please, don’t tell me that it was a bad year for music, OK...there is cool stuff broadcasted everywhere...like Linkin’Park, Poodles of Money, Nickelback, Vedder’s solo...why it was a bad year for music? What the people were doing in 2001 instead listenig to music? Reading comics??
Maybe that’s why he wrote “don’t wanna climb no walls”...he was reading “Amazing Spider-Man”.
shaolinda said on June 6, 2002 16:29:
Who needs serious lyrics... let’s have some fun with the songs, or even try to see something even better behind the lyrics. When you’re in love, not only your head but your heart go pop pop pop pop pop... :) cheers...
PerFanatic said on June 6, 2002 18:21:
Hey Roxwriter! You started this whole thing, so be prepared to take some more intelligent thrashing!
Let’s see, you’ve said so many ridiculous things, I’m not sure where to start…
Well, first about the language/grammar thing. In case you haven’t noticed, this is an international forum, in which most of the members are not from the US. Let me explain this to you, as you are clearly mentally challenged. This means that English is NOT the primary language of most of these people. Yes, that’s right, many people can speak more than one language. So, instead of being critical of them, you should first concentrate on improving your English (yes, I counted a minimum of 7 grammar errors in your previous two posts), or even learning a few words in another language.
Oh, and where did you pull that “#158 on the charts” from? If you had any brains at all, you would know that even Roxette’s recent singles, which you’ve criticized heavily, have gone top 10 or higher in many countries throughout Europe and South America. So, please quit pulling this crap out of thin air, just to try and support your ludicrous posts.
Were you trying to be funny with that “Per at McDonald’s” rambling? I’m not sure if you were trying to be facetious (you might have to look that word up), or you’re just too ignorant to realize that Per is one of the most successful people in Sweden!
Oh, and a little more about Per’s lyrics… Since when have “intelligent” lyrics been a requirement for a good song? If you ask most people, they’ll say the key ingredients for a good song are melody, beat and arrangement. I’ve never heard of a song becoming a great hit based on only its lyrics. On the other hand, I can think of numerous songs that have no lyrical significance whatsoever that have become major hits around the world. Just take Kylie’s “Can’t get you out of my head”, for example. That was, by far, the most popular song of 2001. By comparison, Per’s lyrics seem brilliant!
So, the bottom line here is that I’ve backed up everything I’ve said with fact. You, on the other hand, are just throwing crap around that cannot be justified no matter how insane you may be.
So… who’s the loser here???
Parre said on June 6, 2002 19:52:

well, i think per is a good songwriter, it doenst matter if just roxette or even his solo thing or the lonely boys, i just love his songs.
they are so dirfferent from other songs, in melody and in lyrics.
per always try to write as good as he can, always. and i guess he did and do a great job. otherwise roxette wont come to the nokia night of the proms this year.
thats just my opinion, sorry for my english ;)

@PerFanatic i would definetely prefer good lyrics TOGETHER with nice melodies, instead of this shittypoppytogetinstupidMTVtop-songs!
All these bands who come up with kinda superficial lyrics and a nice tune that reach the top on European, US.... charts, really mean nothing to me, some don’t even write the lyrics themselves ;)
I would prefer Rox to be just a respected artist making good pop-rock, and writting good lyrics, which doesnt mean they can’t be funny, sarcastic, ...whatever but songs like “make my head go pop” sound like one of Britney hits!!
Seems like nowadays they are not one or the other, meaning nor one of those maxmartin factory bands nor a respected one...which is sad, cuz they could be if they wanted to.
Being successful always coming with No1 at Billboard doesn’t mean you are a great songwriter/composer.

Why do you assume that I haven’t been a fan since early 1991?
Oh and who’s the loser? Well buddy, you are. You just wasted time posting some MORE RUBBISH on a Roxette Internet forum arguing with a guy you don’t know and makes NO difference to your life... that’s my point! This obviously consumes your life, this little pissy forum... so now I ask you who’s the loser?
Hahaha... Per screwed up the orders at McDonalds on the weekend... he was serving Dimberg and Ofwerman!
*Yawn* anyone got a real challenge?
PerFanatic said on June 10, 2002 01:04:
Thanks Rox74ever! I appreciate the support! I know it seems like a waste of time trying to communicate with this loser, but sometimes I just can’t let certain things go (like calling Per a bad song writer). Anyway, it only took me about 5 minutes to formulate my last attack on this guy, and I’d like to think it was time well spent. Unfortunately, it seems as if this guy is on so much of a lower level than the rest of us, my last post probably went right over his head. Instead of responding to my questions and accusations, all he could come up with was more of that pathetic McDonald’s crap.
@Roxwriter: hmmm, why do we assume you’re not a Rox fan? Well, here’s a hint for you dummy… A “fan” is someone who ENJOYS the music of a band and does not blindly criticize their material with nothing to back up his attacks. Obviously, you’re recent posts have excluded you from being a Roxette fan; therefore, nobody is “assuming” anything. You’re simply not a Roxette fan… period! (maybe your shrink can help you out with this, huh? – you’re probably obsessed with Nsync or something). Oh, how can I be loser for writing a nice little response to your lunacy? I’d be willing to bet it took you several hours to come up with that lame-ass McDonald’s crap, while I can blast you with fact after fact in no more than a few minutes. So, once again, your blabbering appears to be a pathetic attempt to confound those of us with a brain.
*Yawn* I’m still waiting for you to respond to my last “challenges”, but I guess they were all a little to sophisticated for a loser like youJ

Hahaha, wow PerFanatic, I’m impressed with your post, you even made some attempts at humour... which failed miserably (a bit like Room Service) but nonetheless you tried and therefore I am VERY proud of you ...ok?
For your information, my ’fan’ status is not at question here... what is at question is that unfortunately some fans are too one-eyed and blind and cannot realise DUMB lyrics when they see it... from a man who wrote brilliance like ...
“maybe the clouds I fear will turn to flowers in the air...”
or
“a whisper of imagery, for lovers supreme...”
or
”...love sleeps all alone, the cold telephone, I know the heart beat...”
or
“breath some faith into my chest...”
But now we get “feed the ducks with a bun” & “pop pop pop pop” & “hit by a truck..”
So pal YES I do have a right to attack his lyrics, YES I do know my Roxette thanks very much, YES I think it is OK for fans who have stuck around to debate these dumb lyrics because personally I expect better from PG.
Seems some people are too stubborn to admit stupid lyrics and try and find some good from it, like “oh they’re funny”...sorry but Billy Connolly is funny, Benny Hill is funny, Eddie Murphy is funny, PG’s lyrics at the moment... are just PLAIN DUMB!
The second some intelligent person questions them, he gets attacked by fools who struggle to string a sentence along...
Hmmm as a ONCE great man said... “don’t need no fortune teller, to know wheremy lucky love belongs...” well I don’t need a fortune teller to know where the idiots exist... simply visit TDR
:-) Love is all they say...
Close2U said on June 11, 2002 07:11:
“cold telphone..”
well that’s a good example off high-tech lyrics.
Maybe nowadays, Per should write something like:
“chilling mobile”
(cut the crap roxwriter, we get your point)
rox74ever said on June 11, 2002 14:38:
@roxwriter:
you know.. maybe you re right about the:
” i feed the ducks with a bun, only to find me in love with you”
but you gotta read between the lines!!! i think what he is trying to say... is that ” that person” went to a lake to sit in the grass, to meditate, and since he was there he fed the ducks, ... and try to forget that person... but all he realized was that he was in love with that person and there was nothing he could do...
so you see what im trying to say? so i guess Per didnt want to write allllll that... all he said was ” i feed the ducks wth a bun, only to find me in love with you”
k?
rox74ever said on June 11, 2002 14:51:
@ roxwriter:
and also ” Jefferson”, Per is telling a story about his friend.
” Jefferson was always out of luck:
- Jefferson got hit by a westbound truck
- the cops came in and took him by suprise ”
Per is trying to say how out of luck he was!! And ” That didnt make him look like a million bucks” can you imagine how your face would it be after a truck runned over you? do you think any girl would want to be with you?? Thats not really lucky... is it?
so... all you gotta do is read between the lines.... But if even tought you dont like per’s ” new style” ... I cannot change your mind maybe you like straight lryrics that go straight to the point like :
” Staying in the back seat of my car making love, oh yea!”
see ya!
PerFanatic said on June 11, 2002 16:55:
@ Rox74ever… by ROTFL, I meant, “Rolling on the floor laughing” (at your L on the forehead comment).
Also, you’ve got a very good point about “reading between the lines”. I think your interpretation of Per’s “feed the ducks with a bun” line was right on track! The fact is, almost all of Per’s “strange” lyrics’ true meaning can be interpreted with some thought. This is something that is obviously over the head of Mr. Roxwriter.
@Roxwriter…
1) “some attempts at humor”? What the heck were you reading? My last post had NO attempts at humor, just legitimate jabs at you!
2) You’re right! Your fan status is definitely not in question here (see my last post)
3) I’m not your “Pal”
4)“The second some intelligent person questions them, he gets attacked by fools who struggle to string a sentence along...”
How do you know such a thing? So far, no intelligent person has questioned them!
5) Per is not a “Once great man”… He’s a GREAT MAN, period!!!
6) Can you please tell us all what your handle means? Does it imply that you write lyrics maybe? Man, if that’s the case, I’d sure like to have a look at them. I’m sure they’d be very deep and thought provoking...
PerFanatic said on June 11, 2002 17:04:
Oh, and one more thing RW...
Yes, you are entitled to your opinion. BUT... let’s be realistic here. Do you honestly expect to post criticism of Per’s song writing ability in a Roxette fan forum and not get blasted? Come on now, you can’t be that naive, can you?
That would be like going to your favorite Nsync site and posting a message that they are ugly and can’t dance! WoW! The flame war would never end!
bluesue said on June 11, 2002 19:24:
