Roxette popularity.

What do you think Roxettes situation would be if they were a new band? If “Room Service” would be their debu album, only released in sweden? Do you think they could have a international breakthrough and sell 1.5 million copies ( or maybe more?). Or would they sell 50 000 copies in sweden and thats all?
animalkingdom said on May 14, 2002 17:07:
Just a side thought (or whatever these are called): how many copies did RS sell in Sweden? Grammotex states that it’s gone (only) platinum which is 80 K but even Have A Nice Day sold over 160 K.

C´mon ppl , why dont you reply? i relly want to know what you believe! :(
joyrider said on May 15, 2002 16:40:
i don’t think that they would have success if they were nobody and RS would have been their first record...
today the whole music industry want’s the bands to have big tits and a great (porno) look in general. roxette had choosen their breakthrouh best - 1989, their best time was in the early 90s but now - hardly any NEW fans, we, the old ones support them great but you know, no teenager wants them, no idol-function anymore... bad but maybe true!
vaxjoe said on May 15, 2002 16:54:
considering their last international smash hit was “wicf” then the answer is no...if rox appeared nowadays as a new band with room service as their 1st project they would have been a flop
CRIZ said on May 15, 2002 18:11:
...well it would depend on the amount of dollars they can spend to bribe the radio-stations, the music-channels, media control, etc. to get into the charts! (Cause it works like that today) Than they need some stupid scandals, less clothes, stupid dancesteps, changing husband/wife all the time, take some drugs, get addicted to alcohol, ...or what about swearing to be still virgin???? >:)

Black humour by cRiZzIe..... ;)
animalkingdom said on May 15, 2002 18:19:
at one radio interview here in finland, quite a few people stated that “the centre of the heart” was roxette’s best song ever.
ABBAle said on May 15, 2002 23:33:
They won’t sell a lot under the “ROXETTE” label, their time has passed by already
Scoll said on May 16, 2002 09:08:
It doesn’t bother me that there not as popular as they once where, It’s nice to be a huge fan of a fantastic group that most people here in New Zealand anyway, have forgotten about. If you know what I mean. Also to be a fan of Gyllene Tider that I’m certain not many people here know about. This thing about being No 1 all the time does’t mean jack shit.
onlywhenidream said on May 16, 2002 10:28:
I agree, it is nice to be able to stand back and say ’I’m not just jumping on the ’what’s popular now’ bandwagon’ instead, I am an individual who like this band for their musical abilities and not just ’cos they are sexy, always on TV etc etc.
coyboyusa said on May 16, 2002 16:50:
i think we need to realize room service isnt a very commercial album. the big ballads r not big ballads , the rock songs arent big rock songs....the album wasnt made to be enormous
Roxwriter said on May 17, 2002 04:24:
@COYBOY
That is such a crock of shit! What a cop out! Wasn’t made to sell? If it helps you sleep easy at night then you believe that....
Quote from Moron features himself (PG) ’this is the most commercial album since Joyride’
Face it! It was designed to sell.... BUT IT DIDN’T!
GET OVER IT!
Hotblooded said on May 17, 2002 15:14:
I think it may have stood a chance, but I doubt it would have set the music biz alight like ’Look sharp’ did in 89’.
The reality is people just aren’t fussed with them anymore, they hear the name Roxette and just think they are 80’s and don’t even bother to listen to the new stuff.
You know what I don’t even care that much anymore if Roxette are hugely successful or not, I’m over it! I love them and they have done so much for me over the last 12 years that anything else they do will be icing on the cake for me!!! For the new generation that don’t want to give Roxette the time of day it’s their loss!!!!
BTW The Roxette DVD here in Australia has debut at No #15!!!!! Not bad considering EMI did it’s usual promotion... NOTHING ;-)
RobS said on May 18, 2002 10:12:
Really you mean the DVD actually made it into the charts?? Which one??
I never, ever would have thought that would have happend!!
Hotblooded said on May 18, 2002 11:47:
Yeah neither would I have thought it would make any chart in OZ! But see for yourself at www.aria.com.au under DVD top 15 (or something like that).
Roxette-atic said on May 19, 2002 01:15:
Roxette #15 in Australia with the DVD!? It must be their best chartposition since WICF was #11 in the UK.
animalkingdom said on May 19, 2002 08:08:
@ Roxette-atic,
well if you don’t count their #1 smash in their homeland.
coyboyusa said on May 21, 2002 13:28:
ok for the crack addict that felt it necessary to slander me here in the forum let me state this. I would not have released room service. It isn’t commercial cause its underprodouced...its sparse of guitars and live instrumentation........ the onyl hit off the album was a song meant for hand which was a commercial album and did sell immensely well. I dont expect them to sell 5 million copies of anything anymore...however I do wish that they would shell out a little of their own money for once and give the die hard fans who have followe d the band since their inception a bit of a reward. We deserve a highly promoted album and tour ..a last shebang with great videos.....each single with b-sides....or a boxed set. !5 yrs, most bands dont live past 2 albums. Dont get me wrong I love them to death and god forbid the day they stop making music....but at this point ...well i need not say more
Roxwriter said on May 22, 2002 03:34:
Hey CoyBoy
Settle down sweetie, you might wet yourself.
I noticed you posted some more dribble, along with the other forum members here... pity it wasn’t interesting.
Thanks for the crack it was great, but your prices are getting a little too high for me
roxchurch said on May 24, 2002 00:20:
Yes, i don’t think that they would have success as a new band today, cos even in the 89-90 they didn’t sell sex or porno – things that counts today...
and the RS songs aren’t responsble for that..
music industry is diffrent, ppl are diffrent
and i think that the music industry, changed ppl
,not as the natural way is, cos TV and radio stations show and play only dirty kind of music..
in my country the most selling “singer” spoke in his videos dirty words and shows nude girls .....
but i’m a fan of one old band- she maybe didn’t sell so much, but when they have a live concert, the street a full, the ppl sing their song and with one song they make all ppl go crazy, make them feel that sense of a woman ,that 100 nude girl can’t make you even imagine....
on the streets is the prof-who is the best!!!
so i’m not sure that i’ll remember even the name of that best selling singer, but i’ll remember the old band and their songs!!!!
The same about Roxette!!

it woudl never have escaped sweden at least not with the present musical climate
