Would it be possible for Roxette to come out with a full new album this year?
tobyD said on January 21, 2009 14:04:
I don’t think Roxette will come out with a full new album soon. But with 3 new songs, I hope they can come out with “Rarities Vol 2” or something like that. The album can include new songs that were released only in other compilations before such as One WIsh ( I know some people really hate this song), Opportunity Nox, A Thing About You, etc. Then add the three new songs plus a couple of cover songs. I don’t think Roxette has ever recorded cover songs except those of which they recorded during MTV Unplugged. Or have they? If they haven’t than this will really be a rarity ;-p
But I don’t think such an album would be possible either...what do you think?
rox-kuryliw said on January 21, 2009 16:41:
of course they can do a new album. They may have already been doing bits for all we know thats VERY possible.
ncurran said on January 21, 2009 19:00:
To be honest I would rather there were no releases at all if all we were going to get is a couple of new tracks on another half-arsed compilation. I’m pretty sure there wont be anything from roxette this year anyway

I don’t want to spoil anybody’s hopes, but according to this interview published in Aftonbladet, the “three new songs” story is nothing but a myth. I don’t speak Swedish myself, but a bit was translated by Judith:
“Among others he says he told somebody he has 3 songs for GT and 3 for Rox in the drawer, but that that was a lie.”
As ncurran said, I don’t have the slightest intention to buy a whole new CD just to get 1, 2, 3 or 4 new songs on it. It has to be a brand new album or nothing. I don’t want to pay for ATAY or ON once again, no way.

In short, no. To quote the translation of the recent article in Filter, ’At the same time Marie wasn’t too interested in Roxette the years before she got sick’. I doubt she’s much interested now either, now that she has other things she’s interested in doing, like the art and Stjarnklart
tobyD said on January 22, 2009 12:13:
If Per really lied about the three songs, I totally understand. Throughout the years, people would probably ask Per and Marie the same question over and over again - “Will there be a new Roxette album?” I know I would be sick and tired of that question if I were them.
But the fans shouldn’t be blamed for asking that question either. Roxette never officially disbanded. Both Per and Marie are still active in their solo career. So (some) fans are left waiting and hoping. Yes I know, I should move on :-), well when I come to think of it, I HAD actually move on, but I came back.
I read somewhere that artists came out with compilation albums and double disc CDs to finish up their contract with the recording company. Perhaps, the RoxBox is the final one. Hm should I get it? Quite a number of people are not very satisfied with it...I wonder why...

I think there will be a comeback, not this year, but maybe next year. And it must be a totally new album. I think the media would be very interested in Roxette and Marie, thats for sure. So a brand new album would fit more for a good promotion.

Let’s don’t be greedy :-)
3-4 hit song a good enough for me.
Media outside Sweden didn’t forget Roxette.
Even today in an article about bulgarian Arn premiera was mantion about Marie song and Roxette.
tobyD said on January 23, 2009 02:26:
Yes I agree that 3-4 songs are good enough for me...the songs don’t have to be in the charts, I just want Roxette back. For me, it is not important if they can repeat the success of Joyride or Look Sharp, but if they can come out with something that sounds like Roxette from the Joyride era, that will be so kind and generous of them. And it will be an invaluable gift for the fans who are partly responsible for making them into who they are today.
Some people may not agree, but I think the style and sound of the Joyride album defines Roxette as a band. That right mixture of rock and pop is timeless, even when you heard it today, you wont get that 80’s or 90’s feeling. C’mmon Roxette, I am tired of dance music already :-)

I reckon Per has made some demos for Roxette that he is very happy with and that’s them. I’ld be very surprised if there was any Roxette release this year. Bring on a new GT release in 2009!
rox-kuryliw said on January 23, 2009 09:19:
wonder when there recording contract is up ? they been filling it up with compilations since rs. If its a 5 album one again, then they done.
pwbbounce (moderator) said on January 23, 2009 09:29:
From what I remember about their contract, and I may be wrong so someone can correct me, is that Roxette signed another 10 year contract back in 1997/98? Which means that Roxette currently don’t have a contract? If that is the case, then there is no need to fulfil any further album obligations with EMI?
Like I said I may be mistaken? Tev, do you know?
tobyD said on January 23, 2009 13:35:
According to a news article I found on TDR, Roxette hasn’t signed a 10 year contract.

Somehow I feel that the RoxBox is the last chapter of the Roxette story. Maybe there is no more Roxette after this. But wouldn’t it be nice if Roxette goes independent, and only release their new album online? Most people buy Roxette stuff online anyway... it is getting harder and harder to find their album in the stores...
pwbbounce (moderator) said on January 23, 2009 13:44:
I remember where I read about the 10 year contract. Back in an old Roxette Review from the fanclub on one of the Questions To Per section.
I don’t really know what to think about Roxette’s future. Some days I think they will, some days I think they won’t. It was 3 years between Opp Nox and One Wish. OW is already 3 years old. Can you believe that!
BaseCat said on January 23, 2009 15:24:
I think Party Crasher is the closest to a new Roxette album we will get. Replace Helena with Marie, add three more songs with Marie on main vocals, change the album title and there you are: a great comeback.
CoyRoy said on January 23, 2009 18:02:
Well, I’m certain Roxette will come back, if not in 2009, then in 2010. They might use this year to record and write some great songs for a brand new album. Anything is possible. Roxette has always surprised us fans over the years - why not now. Per and Marie may be misleading us all..... LOL. They might just surprise us!!
I hope Party Crasher isn’t a sign of what a possible Roxette album might sound like. I do know that Helena and Christoffer irritates me shitless. Hopefully Per will drop them on future recordings.
C’mon Marie!!!!
tobyD said on January 25, 2009 02:38:
Yes I also hope that Roxette will come out with a more rock-influenced pop album (if there ever will be one).
But if Roxette ever release a new album, I’ll buy it no matter how it sounds like. Currently I am collecting all Roxette full studio album CDs, one by one, cause my old ones are all in cassette format, safely kept in a box. For me Roxette is a pop(rock)band living legend, and I miss Roxette...a new album will only confirm the band’s legendary status...
Yes when I come to think of it One Wish was released almost 3 years ago. It’s about time us fans “demand” ;-p for a new album. Moderators, can we make an online petition or something?
Lantartida said on January 25, 2009 08:51:
An online petition? No, thank you. Well, obviously you can do what you want to. As far as I am concerned, I don’t want Per and Marie to record an album together just because of a fan petition or a purely commercial decision. Let them do what they want to do and whenever they want to (together or not).
PS: Please, read the article mentioned by whateveriam, in Filter (you can find it in littlemarie.net, for example). Lack of interest ... is not good for a new album.
pwbbounce (moderator) said on January 25, 2009 09:01:
We won’t be doing any petitions here. There will only be a new Roxette album if Per and Marie WANT to, not because some fans think it’s their right to demand one. They need to be in a creative mood as well. Just be patient
tobyD said on January 25, 2009 11:13:
“Not because some fans think it’s their right to demand one”...
Well, I don’t think anybody think it is their right to demand one. I was thinking that maybe if we show them that there is a strong demand for Roxette, Per and Marie will be interested to work together again.
daniel_alv said on January 25, 2009 12:28:
I think a petition would do anything better. I really think that both Per and Marie already knows that we all would do anything to get a new Roxette album! And I also think that both of them wants to do one. If (or when) Marie feels that she has the energy to do a Roxette album I’m sure they will do one, but I don’t think a petition would make that happen faster. The best for us would be to just keep our fingers crossed that it will happen, and in my opinion it can’t happen sooner then autumn of 2010.
Lantartida said on January 25, 2009 12:47:
Energy ... and INTEREST. If they are not interested enough in doing a Roxette album, I prefer that they don’t record anything together.
roxwho said on January 25, 2009 13:37:
cant we have a petition for a rarities vol 2 album? to make up for the dissapointment of the rox box lol? but this album should include things we really dont have.. im sure there are at least 2 albums or even more worth of unreleased roxette songs....
tobyD said on January 27, 2009 09:17:
Yes roxwho, you know, Bjork (www.bjork.com) actually let her fans select the songs for her Greatest Hits album through an online survey...I was thinking that since they’re many people who are quite disappointed with RoxBox, maybe Roxette should have taken that approach.
I read somewhere that Per actually defended the songs choice for the Box, although he knew that some fans were not happy with it. Some may not agree with me, but I kinda like the idea of “empowering the fans”. Well on the other hand, as an artist Per has the right to do what he wants to do with his work. Hmm, finding a balance between pleasing the audience and expressing artistic freedom, difficult task it is, difficult :-)
daniel_alv said on January 21, 2009 14:41:
No cover songs please. Per is the best songwriter and there is no need to cover other artists.
I don’t think we will get any Roxette this year.
